    Squirrel Nut Zippers! OMG! I know! right?! So fun. Her rat teeth are mesmerizing to me, she is like a Metal Amy Yasbeck!
    Having Pinkerton on your show I give you a thumbs up!

      Justin seems to be adept at attracting excellent guests and his relaxed vibe really deserves a wider audience. Having said that, if it was Hulk Hogan interviewing Riley Pinkerton I would still have watched. Now there's an idea...

    The album is excellent. Riley could be a great singer/songwriter in any genre she chooses. Castle Rat are fun as well as very competant musically and I'm looking forwards to seeing them tour Europe in 2025.

    I'm happy to admit that it was Riley that first attracted me to your channel. Then I watched you interview Michael Moorcock and spotted some of the other Heavy Metal and Sword and Sorcery legends that you have featured. It's a pretty impressive roll call. Keep up the good work!

    I thought Riley's story about the orb she saw was super fascinating. I'd love to know what these things are. There's more to heaven and earth, and all that

      All very strange. Weirdly I'd been listening to DW Pasaluka's book American Cosmic the night before I watched this interview. Pasaluka discusses synchronicity in relation to unexplained phenomena and when Riley mentioned synchronicity it felt like...actual synchronicity.

    Around 44:00 in, we hear what we all knew already. At least she admits that this is much more of a visual project than an actual band of serious musicians dedicated to sharing their perspective on existence.

      What's wrong with someone having more than one artistic pursuit, and since when was it a requirement for rock bands to be super serious and exclusively make songs about high minded philosophical viewpoints? Castle Rat is fun, there's nothing wrong with that

    • @jonzaremba
      @jonzaremba หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@whaterdaodds being an Instagram model is not an "artistic pursuit". There's lots of fun music I enjoy, but what she does is just cheap and shallow. If she looked like that heifer from Smoulder, nobody would pay Castle Rat any mind.

      I think its pretty disingenuous to act like visuals, aesthetics, and theatricality aren't all gigantic parts of what being a serious performing musician is. They are all ways of engaging with our shared experiences of reality. She should be applauded for being open about what a holistic, intentional experience she's crafted here.

    • @jonzaremba

      @GorgonautAnimation I like many visual bands from all genres of music. In my top 10 of the 00s is the band La Femme. They are all about sensuality and highly visual. The difference is they have music to back it up. They are fun, but also serious at the same time. There's no other bands who sound like them. Highly original. Castle Rat is generic blah rock. Anyone could do what they do. The only reason they exist is because of her boobs. Shallow and disposable.

      @@jonzaremba I discovered them based on the music alone and found that more than compelling enough to be hooked - loads of bands do Sabbath riffs, but it's so rare to find one that can actually evoke the airy, witchy occult of the first record. I'm sure having a hot lead singer helps, but its hardly like virtually every other band doesn't have carefully curated visual appearances. If you think dudes in other metal bands aren't hitting the gym and taking care of their hair and carefully choosing their band shirts and spiked leatherwear to 'sell' their aesthetic visually you're kidding yourself. Like... do you think Manowar wasn't being using being hot to draw attention to their musicianship?
