Very sad to see all these comments about this boss. Playing Termina i felt a heavy bloodborne-silent hill-esque aesthetic that i loved so much and seeing Rancid for the first time was so amazing to me, he reminded me a bit of Vicar Amelia and after so many hours in the game finally fighting him was so frightening and also cool, being able to fight the ones who actually use the Sergal Spear and whole introduction felt like such an important battle. Seeing so many references but also original creature designs throught the whole game i can't understand why people hate him so much, he fits just as much as any other monster in this game thanks to Orange's fantastic art design and style. And it seems that im the only one that also thinks that his obligatory fight also fits well into the game progression? By this point in the game you should be prepared and expect to fight nasty stuff, plus thanks to his introduction and dialogue, it truly feels like you finally found yourself a *TRUE* challenge, your rival, someone to test your might, someone that truly makes you realize the horror and importance of the Termina festival not only because of the opponents you must fight to survive as you can easily avoid or run from most bosses and monsters, but that no matter if you like it or not, you are a part of Rher's sickly game until the very end... So sad seeing so much hate for a character that perhaps if people were not so judgmental, they would start to appreciate him more and also appreciate Orange's work towards this character and the whole development of this franchise and world :/
You're right with the Bloodborne connection. That game really influenced Rancid the most. Also agree with the progression part. The fight is important for the game's pacing. Originally this battle was optional, but I felt the game experience was very 'flat' when the player could just wander around aimlessly all the way to the final boss without any clear milestones in the way. A bottleneck was needed to give people sense of progress. Most criticism Rancid gets these days is that people would be fine with him if he was a quiet and intimidating beast instead and didn't say anything. I think that's fair enough, but there's no putting the genie back in the bottle imo. I wanted to have more variety in enemy personalities and if he was quiet, people would take him as just one more mindless monster wandering in the city. Rancid is supposed to be intelligent and somewhat civilized, not part of the Prehevil monster portfolio scorched by the moon. I don't mind Rancid criticism at this point. Sergals come from a web-comic called Vilous; Rancid in particular is a nod to a furry youtuber who covered both F&H games early in their development (Neco the Sergal). I definitely think Miro took some cues from Bloodborne when it comes to the boss' presentation, though.

One of the most egregious shoutout references in a game. You could have been so much subtler about including "sergals" especially in reference to the spear from 1 and Vinland.
I mean it’s the devs game, and he wanted to shout out someone who really supported his game and that meant a lot to him, I mean idek how it stands out too much this game is super Bloodborne-y, and mean he felt like he shoulda been there imo
The dev of this game said Neco-kone-Magnificat Rancid the Sergal is not a reference to Neco the Sergal? I call BS. It's a sergal with Neco in the name and Neco the Sergal was one of the first to popularize the game. Heck the dev even used Neco's video to find bugs in the game and made comments on his videos. The dev is a straight up liar.
Please read what I've said about Rancid first if you're going to be calling me out. This just sounds like you got super triggered by some hearsay and never actually read into it yourself. I've said Rancid is not meant to be an in-game insert of Neco. People were saying I just put Neco in the game, but Rancid is meant to be a character of his own. His personality, looks, mannerisms and dialogue are nothing like that of Neco's, thus he is not Neco. Pretty simple. Everyone saying otherwise hasn't watched a single video of Neco's and wants to just get triggered for no reason. I've said that sergals wouldn't be in F&H without Neco, so in one shape or form it is a reference yeah, never refuted that one.
@@fearhunger3983 You know what. I did over react. Sorry about that. And I see what you mean. I know Rancid isn't meant to be literally Neco. I originally thought Rancid was an intentional reference to Neco. As in it reminds of you that Neco the Sergal exists even if it is not literally him. Sort of like how Le'garde is his own character with his own backstory but is also seemingly a reference to Griffith. Hopefully you know what I mean. Then I read the wiki of the game and it says Rancid was not inspired by nor a reference to Neco at all. I was thinking that doesn't make sense. It would be quite a coincidence that Rancid the Sergal is in the game and Neco the Sergal is well known for playing Fear and Hunger by you. Especially since you included Neco in Rancid's name. The sergal fan community is quite niche so it would be somewhat unlikely if Neco didn't play a part in you knowing what sergals are. So that is why I was confused. Regardless, calling you a liar was extreme and uncalled for. And I apologize for that. Sorry I was acting like an idiot.
@@RealLifeIronMan oh it says that in the wiki? No wonder there's confusion. I put the Sergal Spear item in F&H1 as a nod to Neco without even knowing what sergals were. So there definitely wouldn't be sergals in this in-game universe without him and in that sense any mention of sergals by me is inevitably a reference to Neco to some degree. I wanted to have Rancid in Termina because it always bothered me how the sergals were only a passing mention in the lore and since they were tied to the hyped up Vinland continent, I felt they had to be addressed again in these games. I just can't sweep stuff like that under the carpet even if the original depiction was just a reference. I think such one-off references are more immersion breaking than incorporating them properly to the in-game universe. That's why Rancid came to be. I didn't really have Neco in mind apart from the previously mentioned connection despite his name appearing in Rancid's name too. The only people I consulted about Rancid's inclusion was actually the original creators of sergal species. Since I was borrowing their creatures, I wanted to make sure it wasn't anything they'd feel uncomfortable with. So... In many ways Rancid is a reference to Neco, yeah. Just not an in-game insert of him. I get defensive about this subject easily because there were many who were spreading info that I inserted some real life people like Neco to the game. That's just false info. Some people even went on to bully and harass these people despite them having nothing to do with the development or the lore of the game. Every character was written by me and was meant to be a character of their own even if they happened to be referential.
idk why people give this guy shit the first time i saw him killing the bobby and jumping away i thought he was cool as fuck so actually fighting him for the first time was probably the highlight of the game for me

This fits more the Rher battle. I find Rher's theme underwhelming.
I think he should be optional, like Ketsueki. He stands out too much.
Agreed, he's very immersion breaking, completely juxtaposes the tone of everything else. His design is pretty cool though.
@@PrimoridalAgarthanDemiurge Yes, he has a cool design (what else would we expect from Miro) and he kind of reveals a little bit of the game's lore, but it's like he's from a completely different universe.
I liked this boss a lot. Made me shit bricks the first time I saw it, and the presentation was perfect.
Being a 'progression boss' was definitely odd though.
It needs a complete overhaul to not be so egregiously out of place and self referential.
Ketsueki would be so much better without the edgy dialogue too
Absolute "Bruh moment" when you realize what the enemy references.

Lovely furry
One of the most egregious shoutout references in a game. You could have been so much subtler about including "sergals" especially in reference to the spear from 1 and Vinland.
I get the spear from 1 but how is Vinland a reference to Neco?
I mean it’s the devs game, and he wanted to shout out someone who really supported his game and that meant a lot to him, I mean idek how it stands out too much this game is super Bloodborne-y, and mean he felt like he shoulda been there imo
@@GioGioPietromica425 "i mean its the devs game yab yab yab...." midwits and centrists like you are the bane of thinking
