So appreciate you showing all the science that goes into feeding farm animals. A lot of people don't get the intense attention to detail that is required for animals to be healthy.
Hey Man just wanted to say thank you for your hard work. Farming alone is such a grind and then you still spend the time to film it which is another full time job that has to take up a lot of your time! Great job!!
Not sure how I missed this one month ago. What I like so much about your videos are the details to the small things you have to do to get a project done. Never occurred to me that moving that third bin would require moving it first with the chain to position it properly for the tractor. Since I am 70 and live in a condo in Irvine, don't think I'll ever have to use that bit of info :)
When we were raising our pork, we fermented our fed. It smelled😷 terrible but the pigs loved it. And they was happy as a pig in mud. 😊 Grew super fast and was super good pork! We had 50 gallon drums. Put water in the tub first. That stopped any dry clumping. Used a huge heavy pole to stir the feed. After a few days of letting it ferment. If I am remembering correctly. And breakfast was served. 🐖 My husband’s dad is the one who showed us, how to slop hogs. I love head cheese. I hope y’all have tried it. A neighbor made it for us on half’s. Oh gosh! And pickled pigs feet. Today I have to buy it from a store. Just talking about this makes me want to get hubby to throw up a pig 🐷 pen😋 👍✌️👍
We always soured our corn with water and 25 loaves of stale bread and they never let a yellow nugget out the other end. We let the corn sit at least 7 days in the warmer months and 10 to 14 in cooler months depending on the weather. Those pigs would wear the stuff out and put on the weight too. Of course we fed other things as well but that sour mash kept em docile most of the time but from time to time you’d get a fighter lol. Our pigs stay in paddocks and get a lot of green growth along with those grains now days
Havent seen anyone utilize the 3point quite like you lol Love the "macgyveresqueness" of your farm. Reminds me of the wooded paintball field i took care of for almost 15 years when i was younger. Never the "proper" tool or equipment so ya gotta make do with whatcha got 👍 love the channel
40 years ago I saw a farmer leave his house, jump on his fully loaded $500K tractor pulling a 52 foot cultivator for about 2 1/2 hours and call it a day. Your farm has a lot of sweat equity (your sweat) and mental gymnastics building it. I respect that much more than cubic dollar built farms. BTW you have turned your small pigs into TH-cam divas!
We used to make our feed for hogs and cattle. Then our local co-op quit selling grain in bulk. “We’ll make the feed for you”. Smallest batch they would make was 5000 lbs. $15/cwt. We were making feed for $8-$10/cwt. Sold the hogs. Quit feeding cattle.
Ever since you made that video of fixing up the hammer mill, I've been keeping my eyes peeled for one. Not much on the market for good used ones. I'm thrilled thats working out for ya man! You have a great system there.
Thanks Chris yeah I really came upon mine by accident. In fact I didn’t even know what a hammermill was before my friend gave this one to me and told me I needed it! Honestly, there is nothing to them and I know you of all people could make one easily!
Cracking corn is important because any whole kernel corn will pass thru them without being digested. I always considered whole kernel corn a perfect food, perfect on the way in, perfect on the way out:)
Hi Tyler, It is Way easier to mix everything together before grinding, you just have to buy correct bin for that, with buckets it is a bit hard time. When you have oportunity in your area to by non packed feed Like what you did,ask them do thay have sunflower grain residues from oil making, cause that is feast for all animals and piggs are crazy for that. Makes all feed much tastier for them.
I'm happy it all worked out. Can I ask you something please. I always thought that pigs ate slops ie wet food, vegetable scraps from the kitchen, any edible waste. Your pigs seem happy with what they get. Is your way of feeding better for the end result of the pig ie flavour ? Have a good day ☺🚜🚜🚜☺
They do get some table scraps and garden vegetables in addition to their main ration. Feeding a known consistent diet helps me know when they will be ready for harvest because their rate of gain will be more predictable. Thanks Anne!
Hey Adam yeah lately I just haven’t had any time to get one put together hopefully I can get them going again soon but might just make once a week videos the standard and occasionally throw in a Friday video.
Just going off averages because I’m always adjusting it seems like! The soybean meal has a tag that gives feed values so I at least know what that one is for sure
Is all that dust going to get into their lungs? I thought pigs were successible to lung infections. Anyway I think I could make bread with that ground wheat..lol The little piggy's are so dang cute.... big one's not so much. Why do you feed soy? I just don't know. I know people are growing soybeans between crops here. Thank you Farmer Tyler hope everyone is doing well...
Thank you Valerie so far the dry feed has been fine for them. The added soybean meal is for protein. Corn has about 7% protein and soybean meal has 45%. I adjust the ratio of both to reach an overall protein of around 20%
When you feed the wheat screenings with all the weed seeds you will be spreading weed seeds all over your farm .That is why it is free ,farmers don't want all the weeds spread on their farm from the manure . The weed seeds will go straight through the animals
Do you feed them food scraps from the kitchen in addition to their grain? They sure are getting to be fat little porkers!🐖 Looks like the spotted ones were enjoying their new food!
Uploaded on my Birthday! I love your channel. So honest and authentic. Animals are AWESOME.

Haha! Yeah maybe not!
Love your sense of humor!
You are one hell of a smart guy there Tyler!
Trailer towing tip for you, cross your safety chains so if the comes disconnected from the truck accidentally the tongue doesn't crash to the ground.

I hold my breath,those are big,great job

I sure enjoy watching the videos you guys produce very much! Keep them coming.

Please add some hickory smoke to their feed. That's the bacon taste I enjoy
Thanks for showing how to feed your pigs. this was interesting.
Always look forward to your videos

Great Meal for the animals, they will enjoyed it. Make more crunchy bacon.
A lot of work Tyler!! One of those times an over the wheel trailer would be helpful. Another good day in the life of FTR.
Awesome video and God bless
It would seem the older pigs are really enjoying the mix. Take Care
love your ideas
I just love the pigs
Nice camper!! That's awesome!! Love to camp!
Thank you! We do too
Hey Tyler I think it will be much better if you ad some kind of liquid to that dry food ( water ,milk or sour milk ) Just a suggestion
Haw a nice day
Happy for you that you were able to find bulk grain again. Where are your chickens? They usually come running when you start the mill up.

Very smart way of getting feed and more economic!
I sure didn’t hear any complaints!
Wouldn't it be easier to put wheels on those bins so you can move them around better...j.s. thanks for the video...
In the next two days the pigs quickly put on 85 lbs a piece with their free corn-wheat meal and you're going to the Bank!
Great and thanks for sharing , see on the next video of Farmer Tyler Ranch
Looks like some pretty dang good feed man, be some good ingredients for a grower ration for some beef steers. Hope all is well Tyler, take care buddy.
Thanks Yeah I thought about offering it to the steers this year, see what they think!
I saw another guy mixing with a concrete mixer, very useful. Secondly: That food should be mixed with water, it;s too dry now.
Interesting reaction from the pigs.
wowzers thats a lot hugssssss
keep on farming
Did this all the time, did our own, in Australia, much cheaper, love your videos,,, Terry
Thank you!
A utility tractor, maybe 55 horse power, 4wd, will make your life so much easier & pay for itself.
William C. Fetter Jr what do you mean he has that
wow homemade cant go wrong with that! how are you doing? I think of you and your family often, take care
We are doing good Iona thank you!
I keep hoping to see a loader on that tractor. Might have to call some new holland reps.
I would love to see that too!!!
Pigs are cute and big 🐖 🐖 , everyday is a work day.
I'm betting that hose across the driveway is about to start leaking.
Thanks for keeping in the part where your on the calculator. Math in real life.
Tyler, are you going to trademark your new feed mixture?
First,hello to Farmer Tyler Ranch
Good video
thank you

You would need a LOT of scraps. Not alot of people have enough organic kitchen waste or extra milk to feed pigs these days
@@LordoftheOzarks Thank you so much for your response. 🌹😀😀🌹

“Throw some Weed in there.”
Thanks 😊
Good Morning Tyler
Another awesome video thank for sharing.
Hello tyler.
I'm wondering what happened to Friday's videos.
Adam from Vermont U.S
Hey Adam yeah lately I just haven’t had any time to get one put together hopefully I can get them going again soon but might just make once a week videos the standard and occasionally throw in a Friday video.
@@farmertylerranch4399 Ok thanks
Do you get the ration tested or just use accepted average protein numbers for a given crop? Great video!
Just going off averages because I’m always adjusting it seems like! The soybean meal has a tag that gives feed values so I at least know what that one is for sure
You ever try and use the brand from the rice it’s high in Proteins also and pigs love it
I haven’t only because it doesn’t store very long before going rancid. Or so I’ve been told!
We feed to our cattle also
Is that meal not to dry for younger pigs ??
No they seem to be doing fine with it
Those look like some happy pigs.
if you can get your hands on bread it fairly fattens pigs
Nice video! How long does it take to grind up a 50 gallon drum's worth of feed?
If I don’t plug up the hammermill probably around 10-15 minutes. But I always plug it up!
Cabbage is good for the pigs.
Damn. A lot of work to feed pigs 🐷
Is all that dust going to get into their lungs? I thought pigs were successible to lung infections.

How much do u think it cost you for 50 lb ‘s of your mix cost ya ? Great job
It’s somewhere around $6-7
Last time I saw your hammer mill it had a lot of air holes. I didn't notice the dust this time. Did you fix the leaks?
Yeah I got the real bad ones but I think it will always leak a little bit!
Are you near any of the fires that are raging in California?
Near enough to be breathing smoke but not near enough to be in danger
So what does it cost for the bulk feed in your area. Or what did you pay for what all you got ?
i thought it was free
@@laweezjohn8876 wheat was free 2 bins, one bin corn he paid but did not share cost
It was 15¢ per pound which I thought was pretty high but they charge more because it’s organic
@@RodderFiles oops
@@farmertylerranch4399 thank you

👍
Seems like they liked it. Is it more cost effective to buy in bulk & grind it or to just feed out of 50# bags?
Thanks for the great content!
Cca 30% cheaper when you buy it Like that and grind it yourself.
It’s cheaper like this but certainly more work!
Do you feed them food scraps from the kitchen in addition to their grain? They sure are getting to be fat little porkers!🐖 Looks like the spotted ones were enjoying their new food!
Yes they get a variety of garden and kitchen scraps in addition to the grain
🙌🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🙌

Pretty nifty I give it 👍👍 lol
