Hey there EasyMusicLesson, I just want to thank you for what you've done, all your hard effort arranging this music. Today I played at my grandmother's funeral on my trumpet, and my pride in my accomplishment helps make the grief better. When we heard the news on New Years Eve about her death, our family was in great loss and depression. We didn't know what to do without her. She's always been the heart of the family and I don't mean just because she passed away, she was the reason why our family was truly a family When we needed someone to celebrate our success, she was there. When we needed love, she was there. Now she was gone. Since I played trumpet, I thought to myself "Why not play the trumpet for her?" Before the funeral, I was scrambling around trying to find a decent sheet for the funeral, one that would be good enough to pay my respects to. I searched all around until I came across this. It was perfect. I practiced in the days counting down to the funeral. Once this day came, I was very nervous of course but I decided to believe in myself, that I would be playing for her. When I saw the family grieving over the casket, I was very discouraged and thought about how I would have the courage to play this piece. However, I still decided to continue with my piece and practiced outside. Amazingly, I was still able to hold it together as I played out on the lawn. I practiced a few times, and occasionally some people would come out and see what I was doing. We proceeded with the funeral shortly after, going to mass to bless the coffin and finally, the mausoleum(the burial). I nervously held my trumpet in my hand as I prepared to play. It was pretty nerve-racking when I saw the coffin being loaded out by the pallbearers and I was scrambling in my mind. But eventually, I gathered my thoughts together and breathed in. I played. And when I played as they rolled the coffin inside, I felt a feeling I never felt before. I still cannot fathom it, but it was something of hope, courage, and faith at the same time. This motivated me further to continue my performance, to pay my respects to my loving grandmother. However, I was abruptly interrupted (because I decided to go all the way) by the ushers who led me inside (because they had to lock the doors). They were quite impressed at my performance as I caught up with the group. When they buried her (very top part of the mausoleum), they requested me to play a final song for her. They initially asked Taps but I figured it quite too hard and I didn't really have the sheet music, so I decided to play an improvised piece. It seemed to echo throughout the mausoleum, ringing a message that cannot be expressed by words. But what I can tell it was love and just peace. Afterward, I decided to play outside, mostly happy tunes to cheer the spirit of the crowd. Some of them would come forward to congratulate me for my performance and I humbly thanked them. I played a few times after the banquet, and my grandfather actually requested me to play one of your other songs (Silent Night). So I would like to thank you in a way that cannot be expressed by words, thank you for helping make my life a bit better and inspiring my passion for music again (you really did just spark it now). Your deeds have not helped me alone, but my family who have received a message of hope, hope that my mother is in a better place and our family will still continue to stay strong. I am certain they will recover in the future, heal their wounds. But for now, you have contributed a whole lot to me and others. You helped me want to play the trumpet more often. You helped my family restore a bit of faith in them. You may not have recognized the impact of how a simple song may change us, but I assure you they are as powerful and mighty as an earthquake, but it's also a smooth river and a young butterfly. So I would really like to thank you for not only helping us alone, but thank you for making a small difference in the world, and making it a better place, for all. Sincerely, Matt Pearls
Hey Matt, sorry for your loss. Also, very grateful and honored to have your sharing here. At the same time, very glad that you did your performance. Music was a huge part of my life too when it comes to relating to emotion, letting go or dealing with grief. So I'm very happy this helped. Congratulations too for your performance! Also wanna state that sometimes when we get caught up with work it's not easy to see the impact of the work done - so just want to thank you once again for taking the time and effort in writing this. We're very appreciative of it.
