How fitting that was my first song on an Ian Tyson model, I myself play a Tom Rush Signature Rosewood with the same l.R. Baggs pick up JUST LOVE IT !!!!
I am the proud owner of a MacKenzie & Marr Dionisio, and I would compare it very favorably to my Taylor 324ce and at 1/3 of the price. Actually, the MacKenzie and Marr wins hands down on aesthetics with AAA solid cedar top, African curly maple binding, ablalone inlays on the fret board, rosette, and purfling , and comes in a close second on tone and playability. Still, nothing touches my Martin, but for $800 bucks delivered the Dionisio is hard to beat. Nice case too.
It does sound good. Full sound and impressive how well it stays in tune when you move the capo up the neck. Typically even good guitars need some minor re-tuning whenever a capo is placed.
Absolutely awesome guitar. My brother and I are huge Tyson fans. Actually got to meet him once. I’ve always wanted to see a review of that guitar. Those guys were on Shark tank few years ago looking for investors.
Thanks for the great review. I just order a The Riverboat Dread today. After watching your videos of playing a great variety of guitars I can see you just light up on every MacKenzie and Marr guitar you have played. Thanks Again.
First time I heard one of their guitars was when I was staying a winter in Gulfport Florida. A very accomplished entertainer was playing out front in a garden area of a small hotel. Sounded beautiful and I chatted with the player during his break. He told me had ordered from a Canadian company Mackenzie Marr. I'm a Canadian and had never heard of them , wonderful tone and very visually beautiful. I hope they make some quality lefty versions. Always a challenge finding a good guitar in a lefthand version. Prices are certainly right for the excellent quality they are putting out.
I have an M&M sunburst Grand Manon (looks similar to a Gibson J45). I absolutely love the guitar. John Marr is the nicest guy. I spoke with him over the phone a couple of times. Mine also has the L.R.Baggs. I highly recommend checking them out. I stood mine up against a beautiful Taylor, and the Grand Manon sounded every bit as good to me.
Never heard of MacKenzie & Marr either but it sounds great on video must sound even better in person! Thanks for your relative for letting you show us.
This is really interesting. Last Friday I went to a local guitar shop in Maryland with a friend from church who was looking for a new 12 string acoustic. Well, one of about 5 different 12 models was a Mackenzie & Marr. It was a non cutaway model sinks spruce with Brazilian Rosewood back and sides. We narrowed his choices down to a Taylor 150e and the Mackenzie & Marr. He played the Mackenzie much better and it was all solid woods with much better appearance and tone than the Taylor. He went home with the Mackenzie. Oh and the set up was fantastic, best I have ever seen on an acoustic.
I did not expect such a well made, perfect setup out of the box. Smooth neck an frets. The neck looks hand carved! This one is not mine. I would love to try out the 00 14 fret and the om. Lol this love for guitars is a disease. Your friend made a great choice. I have played many Taylors - they are nice but this and for the price- a no brainer😀
Thanks for the information on The Algonquin 12 string guitar from Mackenzie and Marr. I ordered one for my birthday, and I'm picking it up at Mackenzie and Marr on Friday. I can't wait to hear it and play it. I only wish I could as well as she does.
Really, I wish you could play it. Some instruments are very easy to play. They are the ones that seem to forgive the errors when playing. This is one of them. Thank you for the kind words❤️
@@guitarnotions the same model you reviewed. I liked the sound and the look. I especially liked the way you played it. I would love to hear about your background. Have a wonderful day.
You sold me, anxiously awaiting it's arrival. I play some of Ian's music. Where do I get a proper case for this instrument? I loved your demo bravo zulu; very well done. My version of Four Strong Winds is on TH-cam if you are interested. Thank you, very well done; stay safe and be well.
That's wonderful!! Which one did you buy? Check out Mono cases. They are pricy but you will the guitar protected very well. I will check out you version of four strong winds. Thanks so much!!! ❤️
That’s correct. Bolivian Rosewood, also known as Pau Ferro has some rosewood properties and is not endangered like Brazilian rosewood. I doubt think these guitars could maintain the low price with Brazilian 😀
First time for me hearing about this maker. You did a great job playing and reviewing this instrument. It is beautiful. How would you compare it to an Orangewood in the same price range?
I have yet to play an orange wood. I have an orangewood project in my shop (the neck angle is wrong) but have yet to play one. This maker is new to me too and I am totally smitten😀
what a world where we have to praise builders for making a 1500$ guitar that works! Doesnt buzz and sounds in tune right up the fretboard? Imagine that... you pay 1500$ and get something decent? Unbelieveable☺
I have played 2 guitars from mackinzie and Marr now and can easily say I found them both to be great. I loved them both (and I play very high end instruments so I know the difference). Sorry to hear that some were disappointed. Hope they took advange of the return policy.
Thank you for another great guitar review. Your finger picking is lovely and really brings out the best in the Mackenzie and Marr!
Thank you kindly! It’s such a wonderful instrument to play. ❤️

Your guitar sounds as nice as this one. They are definitely beautiful instruments. I am so floored for the price getting such quality! ❤️
Yes, it's a tremendous bang for the buck, but honestly...it could be a cigar box with kite string and you'd make it sound like an angel's sigh.
It does sound good. Full sound and impressive how well it stays in tune when you move the capo up the neck. Typically even good guitars need some minor re-tuning whenever a capo is placed.
It's a really nice instrument especial for the$$ spent! Thanks for the comment!
Thanks so much for the wonderful review!
You are very welcome! And thanks for the special thank you gift too❤️

I just might have to do a review on my channel. It's been about 30 yrs of being in limbo ... time to start playing again! Thank for the motivation.

Thanks for showcasing this company. I had never heard of them. The guitars sounds fantastic.
I wish you could hear it from my end - the recording did not do it justice- wonderful instruments especially for the price too❤️
sounds terrific, M&M will be added to my possibilities list. Love the Bar Harbor sweatshirt! I stream/listen from Maine.
