Thanks for explaining the differences between cinematic lenses and photographic lenses. It’s something I’ve been wondering about. Another question I have that’s relative to this lens, is do you find having manual focus to be a problem when shooting B-roll footage for nature videos? I’m thinking about something like moving the camera across the ground or over a bush. I’m an “old” photographer wanting to get into doing some cinematography as a hobby and I’m looking at some of these budget lenses you review.
Would you grab this vs the sirui nightwalkers? I have a canon r7 and r8, so im looking at 7artisans vision, spectrum and sirui nightwalkers for my first cine lense. For reference, I currently have the rf 2.8 trinity and the sigma art 18-35 & 50-100 f/1.8s, looking for something different for short narrative videos.

DCI 4K Uncompressed Raw to 120fps Global Shutter, Linear Output, not Log. Linear makes it ideal for CGI and Games. Needs to be lit like working with Kodak 320D or 320T film. Bleeding edge tech back in 2014. There's two in Australia.

@@markwiemels I bought the Sirui 24mm anamorphic 2.8 and I was going to use that for 25mm. But I’ll test the 35mm and probably end up getting the 25mm later on. lol.

Most cinema lenses are manual focus only. I'd suggest picking up the TTArtisan 25mm APS-C manual lens and then starting to internalize the hyperfocal distance scale. Once you get good with zone focusing, you'll be faster than you would with autofocus.
@@CO8848_2 EF and PL mount are still the best mount that can be used on basically any mirrorless or cinema camera, regardless of what brand we use today. So, if any lens offer EF or PL option, grab it over any other mount. You will have way wider resell customer options, and not afraid if you have to work with any different camera system.

The one and Only manufacturer sticking to DSLR, is Pentax, who have even been getting retired engineers in to teach the current staff, so they can build a brand new all mechanical film SLR. Every other photography body manufacturer has gone Mirrorless, meaning thier photo cameras are now really just Camcorders with a different body (where before they were large sensor camcorders with optical viewfinders) Pentax did the K-01 mirrorless, but now sticks to mirror lockup and Live View rear screen instead of using the optical viewfinder, keeping backwards compatibility with the 10,000 odd models of lenses that will their bodies. Shame their video mode gets zero support internally for up to date development.
They make a T2 version for full frame, which is equally good, but it's T2. To make a 25mm T1.05 full frame, it would probably be the size of a small garbage can. Side note for Sony users, the lens in usable with clear image zoom at 1.3-1.4 on full frame, or 1.2 with active steady shoot. I use it on my A7IV with active steady shot at 1.2-1.3 clear image zoom and it's pretty good.
For sure, traditionally that has been true. These lenses are targeted at consumer cameras though, so I suspect they are just making the best affordable lenses they can, for both sensors.

I would probably still go for the 35mm. It's sharper and can cover most of the full frame sensor. I also prefer 25mm for video, so it's a hard one.

@@AM-bq4cx Yes, there is a mix of A7IV and FX30, I can’t really tell the footage apart, looks pretty similar.
Did you have to use a ND filter for the night shots with it wide open to keep the 180 degree shutter angle?
I don't worry about the 180 rule, in most cases it doesn't actually matter. I think most night of the night shots were 1/50 to 1/200.

The 25mm needs a 1.3-1.4 crop on full frame. I would go with the 35mm if you plan to use it on crop and full frame.
