I lost it at the holotype...as a daughter who has a dad who worked in the military who went to the base early in the Morning and returned late at night...I remember when I was younger I tried every morning to wake up at 3am to say goodbye and hug him or stay up till 9pm (for a 4 year old that was really late for me haha) to wish him goodnight and a welcome home. I remember telling mom that I couldn't go to sleep yet I needed to welcome daddy home. I need to make a call

That note. "To a kid who needs it." The first time I read that myself, I damn near broke out crying. That single toy, acts as the vessel for all the pain Arlen was living with. It was the only thing keeping him going, the hope of brightening some wasteland kids life. He suffered, and slaved, for god knows how long to get that giddyup buttercup working, just to bring a smile to one kids face, to give them something to hope for in a bleak, crushing world. To live to create light in a world full of dark, and knowing that what you're doing isn't going to change the world, isn't going to protect the citizens of the wastes, but just wanting to make a single kid have just a glimpse of how things where before, to give that kid the knowledge that there is hope for a better world. That kind of shit always hits my feels like a strike from liberty prime...

His story is one of the saddest, in my opinion. All he wanted was to make kids around the world happy. Unfortunately that conflicted with his home life even when he tried to make both work. He lived centuries regretting it. He loved making kids happy, and he loved his daughter the most. But it was too late. This is legitimately heartbreaking.

I am trying to make a mod that completely repairs the commonwealth and fix’s all the wreckage. But after this video I remembered all the people that died at the Great War. I still have the mod files but am wavering to put it on creation club. I might not upload it because I remember all those skeletons that I saw and thought they should be left to rest instead of there body’s being disturbed in there final resting place. This video really opened my eyes and hopefully many others. I am not a mother but an auntie. I spend a lot of time with my niece and nephew. Their parents travel for work a lot and they practically live with me. I treat them as if they were my own children. I like all of your videos and hope you won’t spend too much time on the next one.

I know that I'm a little late here, but I suggest you complete your mod. to return the green and life to the Commonwealth (my only real issue with the Fallout series given the evidence of Pripyat and now Fukushima of how little Nature cares about our shenanigans), everything else like the bodies and vehicles where they are. Just have things like bushes and grass grow through and around them, as nature does with our long abandoned buildings and bodies.

I feel like one of the reasons Arlin kept working on those toys all these years was to try and help himself forget what's happened. He repaired the giddy up buttercups as a way to keep his mind occupied and off the fact that his beautiful wife and child are long gone. While I personally wouldn't consider this the most healthy coping mechanism, it's probably all Arlin has left, repairing toys to make some small child happy and give them hope. Maybe he does this also because he was never there for his daughter a lot. Yes he did take her to work, but like she says in the holotape " you work too much" and read me a story. She just really wanted some time with just him no work.

It's almost as if the sole survivor really did only miss 10ish years of watching shaun grow up. The issue is that synths don't age and we don't know if they die so it may be hard to grow old and have to still care for a pre-teen, not to mention that he could survive you by decades. my snake, a ball python, i adopted him a while back, and he was the first reptile that i personally owned. we’ve been through a lot together- relationships, breakdowns, family drama, you name it.
my gecko, a crested, i just adopted a few days ago. when i first saw him, i fell in love. between his bent tail and rambunctious personality, i knew that i had to get him. he’s my new friend, and i’m hoping that we’ll bond together.

I saw in Arlen an old man who loved his craft. I often complete the mission giving him the spare parts, and dropping a whole buttercup and maybe a few spare parts by him and consider the story done... I have known many an elderly man who loved to tinker with something. Somehow I missed the rest of the story (I guess that is what I get for letting my ADD get the better of me and starting new games so often because I "want to try something". Thank you for all the dedication and love you have put into the game and sharing the hidden elements of the lore with us. I have always liked Arlen. Now I want him in my settlements even more. He deserves to be surrounded by friends and maybe a champion of the wasteland who can bring him occasional parts. He just needs to slow down a li'l and spend more time with those friends :)
As a side note, this play through, I have the Raider Children Mod (plus some others) on to test for possible use in a full immersion game series (warning, it gets DARK)... To compound one sad story with another. I was clearing the rations stockpile by Sunshine and I found a raider girl trying to rebuild a Buttercup with a set of the parts sitting next to her. I had not delivered the parts from Atomatoys yet. Unfortunately before I could try to pacify and interact with her, one of the other raiders tossed a frag at me and blew the kids up. I do now have 2 sets of the spare parts.

youre lying friend, because he wouldnt be there if you hadnt completed the mission - in which case youd know who he was - the video poster just spawned him there with console.

Always have time for your loved ones.
Because that what you leave in the morning sometimes is isn't there anymore in the evening.
I never though a videogame could teach me that.
Or rather a video of a videogame.

I loved this quest, I kept a complete buttercup and have her in my workshop in sanctuary right next to my flames hot rodded power armor. Before the patch she would sometimes disappear and then reappear tossed way up in the air around sanctuary or just on the ground outside my shop, I would just put her back but at first it freaked me out like I thought who the fuck stole my buttercup?! sturgess I'm lookin at you. >.>

TOKOLOSE, cildren from every culture are even making their own toys or declaring something as a toy, some even right now, because they have a natural need to explore the world through their imagination. With caring about this, we are lovingly helping them to grow within and above themselves and to build a future of our world, we could be proud of.
This is important AF and therefore the tone, that's been set here, is absolutely adequate.
So if agreeing with Mr. Oxhorn is making me a SJW, I'll gladly sign that one.
This man is one genuine father.

I've been watching your videos for a long time now and throughout it all, I never thought about subscribing. This heart wrenching story combined with the narration drove me over the edge to become your 991,992nd subscriber. I may not have any kids, but I remember being a kid wishing for a father like Arlan Glass. Instead, I have the father that's closer to the one who gave his company to his undeserving son, who was never there for me even when he was physically there, causing a wedge to be driven between us, which has burned a bridge that unfortunately can never be mended, no matter how hard I try to do so.
Sorry for going off on a tangent there. To put it simply, it pulled at my heartstrings and made me a subscriber. Emotionally awesome and very well done.
On a much lighter note, you've actually inspired me to make some Fallout 4 videos on top of my growing list of future projects, so thank you for that!

I can't look away from my screen, the video over but I just can't leave. All I can do is cry. I have no kids but I have both parents work hard and long to keep a roof over our heads and the fridge full of food. I have good memories of just watching TV with them. And this makes them all the more precious. Thank you Oxhorn.

One thing about the origins of the Giddyup Buttercup that always confused me is how elements from the Mothership Zeta DLC for Fallout 3 seems to contradict the story told in Fallout 4.

    • @CorwinC73
      @CorwinC73 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

Yeah I just played through that dlc recently and... I don't see any contradictions.
The Zetans have a very unhealthy fascination with buttercup, it's true. They copied it, made massive ones... and it's possible they weaponized them in some creepy way....
But nothing in the cargo bay or elsewhere say anything about who made the originals..

The art behind this story is amazing. I've always seen Arlen & I've always loved him, but I've never done his mission. The way you delivered the story, with the sentimental tone in your voice, drove me to tears. Bravo.
