"Focus on the journey, not the destination. Joy is not found in finishing an activity, but in doing it." Never really understood what the journey means until now. So ultimately the joy is learning to love the learning process.

The same thing Bruce lee said: "Add what is uniquely yours".
That's why he had created a style which was a combination of what he had learned and then he was given the title: "The fist that shook the world".
    Such great lessons.

Go slow to go fast.......ABSOLUTELY correct. Thank you Josh. Fundamentals are like the base of the pyramid: wide and obvious. As the levels of the pyramid ascend, they narrow and become for DELIBERATE. I believe this was a secret the Egyptians were expressing in the design of them....wow

I watched it for 3 minutes and nothing is sinking in!
1.) The speakers voice is a little bit faster than what I am used to.
    2.) I have clinical depression.
3.) Upset over someone having the right to disqualify me in a group that I didn’t want to belong in.
    4.) Maybe just too stupid!
    5.) All the above.
I will take #5, it looks like a good number, life sucks, I just want to cry!

No one cares about your pity party. You watched it for 3 WHOLE MINUTES? Wow, I'm blown away by your commitment to learning. Watch it again. Go to the settings on the bottom right hand corner and decrease the speed to .75 original playback speed if he's too quick for you. Or .5 if you need. Never call yourself stupid, it is a self-fulfilling prophecy. If you consider yourself too stupid, then you ARE too stupid. Find your determination and do better.

If this really is the core content of the book, it sounds like a pretty lightweight book. It's good if it helps people, but for me there is much more concrete and useful information in a book like Flow by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi. The three points presented here are useful tips for success in a given activity, but Flow shows the mechanism for _why_ these tips work and how you can restructure practically your entire life toward fulfillment, growth and 'success' via every activity you undertake.

Its a great book I would recommend; a short video can't do a 250 page book justice 😉. It's a smooth read as well & it was hard for me to put down.

Also, Productive Game rarely summarizes the entire book, only a few of the parts he likes about a book. That's his brand he says. He'd rather have consistent short summaries rather than comprehensive summaries.

Josh has changed his opinion about starting with slow. He says to jump into the deep end and that the more difficult task you take on early on the better. I started playing piano trying to read a book about theory. But made very slow progress. Then I turned on the radio, played Stevie Wonder greatest hits CD and tried playing on the fly. Three months later I could play songs with complex chords my theory book could never have thought me. Technique suffers but I could now make corrections in techniques. But I could play all the songs I always wanted to play.

    Great video.
The book is very subjective however and NOT research-based. He is no doubt an expert in chess and Tai Chi, but has no proper training in LEARNING.
Much better is the book 'Peak' which you inspired me to read. Thanks.

    • @hkumar7340
      @hkumar7340 4 ปีที่แล้ว

"Research", especially in something as amorphous as 'learning', is highly overrated. It is much better to put your faith in someone like Waitzkin -- who excelled in two vastly different endeavours. "The Art of Learning" is also far more likely to be enjoyable than "research-based manuals on the cognitive acquisition of additional and different skills".
