Yeah there is a clear difference between the tones of both. I do prefer acoustic violin because of its original tone but for live playing I use electric violin to get consistent volume while moving on the stage.

I have learn in western way. Not much familiar with carnatic violin. But they are tuned differently and played by keeping on the chest rather on shoulders. And in carnatic music there are alot of gamakas practice.

These are the fret positions on string. Like the 3rd position on D string is F note. 5th is G note and so on
