What I love about this is you can see how great of a band they are. No makeup, no show, no lights, no backing tracks. The truth is even without Peter and Ace they are a great band. Seasoned, controlled, laid back, together and comfortable. This only comes with years of experience. Sometimes watching a soundcheck (check out the '76 Destroyer rehearsals) can show how good a band is. Love seeing this. And Tommy, while not the original, is doing a great job singing and playing Ace's parts.
If Gene and Paul could understand that Tommy can sing a lot of kiss songs in concerts… Tommy has a powerful voice and could give a hand to the alive set list and to the wasted voice of Paul.
I'm an Ace and Peter fan, but I think you are forgetting that Ace is not able to play this solo perfectly without mistakes like Tommy did here. Watch recent videos of Ace from the last 10 years and how he can't play the parts high on the neck. He is sloppy.
Tommy is admittedly a better vocalist than Ace, so his Ace impression here sounds a bit strange. I also wonder how it feels for Paul to be unambiguously the worst vocalist on the stage, by far.
BS Ace is bad at it. He could pull it off live in '77 but after that it was crap. Tommy has the gig. Tommy is sober for performances. Tommy plays mostly note for note of Ace's great studio songs and solos. Fan since mid '75 and saw Tommy live finally in '19 as well as Eric. It was my dream concert with all great players. Charlotte NC 8/10/19. And I was on the lawn. It was as packed as I've ever seen - a sea of people.
