Fixed Battles: Breath of Fire 3 Balio and Sunder

- Check it out, Teepo, Balio and Sunder are drunk! Well no, i've worked out some gameshark codes to get around their immortality in this fight. First we need enemy HP codes to set their HP to 0, but even then hitting them doesn't work. The other codes are enemy status mods, which i use to set their status to poison, along with everything else. In the end they drop from the poison damage and you get to see what items they have.

I remember first time I ever played this game. Felt so confident like "yea let's whip these guys ass we killed the beast terrorizing the town and the corrupt mayor." Then they break out the lightning spell and jaw dropped.

It doesnt help that the players guide itself hinted that it was possible to win the fight but at an insanely high level.
This game has shaped my childhood more than any Final Fantasy's or Street Fighter's. It even was because of the fourth installment that I wanted to learn English since it was not translated into German.
I still remember how my mother used to ask me why I was so engrossed in this game back then. After watching me play a few times, she ended up playing it herself, even though she had never been fond of video games until then.
of course there is a german version of the game
If they had add an alternative timeline determined by the death of Balio and Sunder ... that would be fucking awesome.
People complain about the "unwinnable battle" trope in rpgs, but as a kid I was on the edge of my seat here

You would think there would be better equipment rewards. Also pretty funny the scene just ends lol
In most unwinnable fights there are no equipment rewards at all. That's why it's so interesting when we actually do find something. It suggests that either the person who did the monster stats wasn't told you were going to lose this fight, or they were going to have special rewards for winning but then changed their minds and decided to just make these guys immortal.
Funny enough in the strategy guide for BoF3 it says those 2 drop a good helmet if beaten but the fight is impossible to win
Both of these rewards are good. You kill them before you can get past the eastern checkpoint and both items are first possible to get after the eastern checkpoint. So in general the items are close to the end of kid phase.
Marvel comics tells me asbestos armor kills 🤣 poor asbestos man/woman. Spiderman used to use asbestos webbing vs human torch too lol
It seemed like the more you saw balio and sunder the weaker they became in battle. Cuz when they fused into that stallion they really thought they was doing something 😅

Subtle way of showing ryus growth through narrative. If you noticed during the battle in wyndias dungeon his attack and defend animation changes. Before trying to rescue Nina he doesn't look at the enemy and flails his sword around wildly, he defends by crouching with his hands on his head. During and after the fight he swings his sword properly and holds his sword in front of him to defend
Best game! Wish more jrpg fans would try it out and enjoy the sht out if it.

there is a game inspired by breath of fire 3 its called tears of magic
I saw this comment and was like "hey sweet, let's go buy that game on Steam." *Release date January 2025. "Well alrighty then, I guess I won't buy it haha."

Anyone had any luck doing this on PSP version? I haven't been able to find the equivalent codes.
Can beat them without Gameshark, but the next battle you can't if i remember right.
It's the next fight you can (sort of) win. Use an herb or a healing spell on Nina to wake her up and she will run away. This will cause Balio and Sunder to also run away after a few rounds. You don't get anything from doing this but Nina will be impressed that you were able to chase them away.

Actually if you stall them long enough (my going dragon multiple times) Nina will wake up automatically. Just make sure you're faster otherwise Balio's Lightning is gonna be hell to deal with.
I train and more lvl than suder and balio sadly u cannot change whats on the game plan even your so strong to kill those 2 horse
