I'm sorta confused how I managed to watch this entire press conference and NOT A SINGLE QUESTION was directed towards the MAIN actress Ahn Seo-hyun, or veteran extremely well known actor Byun Hee-bong, and none to Steven Yeun either. I mean I don't get it. Like why bring them to the panel if you were going to ignore them. It's by a Korean director, featuring famous Korean actors/actresses and yet no questions. So annoying.
Lol that's true some questions were useless, like the men-hating feminist lady who asked Tilda Swinton what "the most sexist thing she heard on set was". She could have instead asked Ahn Seo-hyun a meaningful question and "empower" a young actress through that. That's what Tilda Swinton hints at ironically in her answer
The Western media only wanted questions from Bong Joon Ho or Tilda Swinton. They would actually have to do research to ask. such thoughtful questions about Korean actors/ actresses. Plus their editors only allow them so much word space in articles.
As much as I really loved this film's wider cast, director and Tilda Swinton, I was so frustrated with the lack of questions pointed at An Seo Huyn. I guess Tilda Swinton and Bong Joon Ho have a lot more...celebrity and past work for reporters to draw upon, but she was the star actress! And really, until Steven Yeun brought it up at 38:00, reporters sounded quite happy with not hearing from her. And her speaking at 44:00 was so by accident... let's ask harder questions! I would have loved to hear about her experiences with these established actors and actresses and what she's learnt, or even what these themes that the film deals with mean to her. This was my first time hearing a cannes press conference, and I found myself quite disappointed in the depth and range of questions that reporters offered.
In our country and city especially (Belarus) we have very few films to see in the cinema....so i'm glad that i can buy a film that i want to watch and watch it home with my friends.
That director Bong's simultaneous interpreter was pretty genius here. She didn't even stumble over the words.
very interesting film and I can't wait to catch it on netflix. interesting feedback however I was surprised that no one asked veteran actor Hee Bong Byun anything?!!
that really pissed me off! on the last question when they all had the chance to speak I thought "finally" but other actors were arrogant enough to skip him with their really deep comments like ' i love my dog'. Felt really ashamed by that...
The one thing I loved that this movie exemplified was the power of love, nurture, and the freedom to do what makes us happy. Okja had those things and flourished beautifully unlike any other of the super pigs. If our governments truly cared for their peoples well-being and happiness and not about power and money, and if the old conditioning of "what life should be like" (e.g. 9-5 job, materialism, ideal reputation, etc) completely abolished, imagine how we would flourish in our own lives individually and as a whole. For me, Okja was a metaphor representing the human race.
Funny how the topic of feminism in film came up and Tilda specifically answered that it was expressed via neglecting to direct questions towards women. Reporters then proceed to neglect asking any questions directed at the star of the film, Ahn. Finally a question directed to all audience members was allowed to reach Ahn after all other actors failed to address the question of whether Okja has changed their attitude towards meat in their diets. Finally she gets a chance to answer and actually addresses the question correctly. Classic. No hate on the other actors for dodging that one though.
Just my DOG DOG DOG, for gods sake, the movie was about a PIG! You can clearly see they are uncomfortable...why did they even took a role if they cant even acknowledge this movie is clearly mostly about the meet industry. Shame on them, only a little girl used her heart and brains.
i wonder how Bong Joon Ho direct his non-korean speaker actor. and about netflix, while i support them because they give money to many great directors, i am hoping they consider to give their film worldwide theatrical release, cinema is not cinema if it's not to be seen in big screen
yah i see your point and actually i have no problem with netflix releasing their film in their service (criterion is doing it with their service too), but they have overcowded library and it's make harder to make this kind of film to be appreciated as it should. And how they distribute their film is a big problem, they close the door and make impossible to worldwide audience to watch it in big screen, and that's when the magic of cinema is gone. you can call me pretentious/old school/whatever.
I'm really sad Okja won't appear on Big Screen too, but I suppose a part of the reason is the law. It doesn't work everywhere the same I suppose, but in France at least Netflix can't show on its plateform any movie that is less than 3 years old. I don't think they do so only to have more consumers.
netflix gives directors big budget with 100% freedom. it's something old dated labels failed to do it. just like bong joon ho's last film failed to get proper release in US because of 'power' game. netflix or others actually appreciate those different movies, indie movies more than old cinemas. and the distribution point of view, that idea is very shot thinking. those awards movies, indie movies hardly get proper cinema releases around world unless they won #1 awards, and most people miss it. they watch it later with digital or dvd in their home. but now thanks to netflix, people are able to see it. netflix or digital releases make those movie more accessible. they're making possible for ww audiences.
Excited! Looks like a social commentary on conventional animal agriculture (one of the top contributors to emissions/more than transportation industry) and animal cruelty. I wonder if this is a coincidence, or this is a pro-Vegan film...
I became vegetarian thanks to the documentary Earthlings, but I'm relieved to see that if I never knew about Earthlings, I would have probably became vegetarian anyways thanks to Okja.
Wow just wow. Actors are not as deep as I hope them to be. or do they pretend damn, avoid direct conflict with food industries or general public? I did like the movie bc the message I received from this film was creating a dialogue for ppl to see the man made crisis of factory farming causing environmental harms, immoral treatment on animals. Watching affectionate bond between a girl with an animal destined to be slaughtered for food makes you think about your food on the table. I guess it doesn’t matter what the director and actors would say. It’s all about what audience would take from watching this film.

i also watched the whole thing just for Ahn Seo-hyun but wow -_-

@@Leo-hr7yq Wow, you managed to let everyone know your dick size with that response.
Yeah...! I don't know why! It's so frustrating!

Amazing director. Amazing film. Looking forward to it. Korean movies are just pure ace, love them.
im amazed on how the translator can memorize sentence that long
nocturnal animal they don't necessarily memorize it,they record it and then translate it by hearing it again n again...
nocturnal animal did you see the translator was doing the shorthand?
She didnt.... She left out so many fragments of information everytime
*translators usually shorten/paraphrase what the person says - words and phrases will always be different depending on the language*
@@Wandrative You are thinking about direct translation. That is not how translation/ interpretation, or even languages work.

I cried halfway through the movie....absolutely amazing!
I cried starting with the trailer and then through the whole thing
wicious hahaha..
I literally screamed when the little baby pig came out of the fence..;(
Are you vegan?
Only the little girl didn't dodge the morality of eating animals question. Everyone else is in a thick haze of cognitive dissonce.
Thus why, the child was picked for the role ;)
Cried cried and still crying and crying 😭❤️#weallhaveachoice#animalloverforever

So it would come down as Hayao Miyazaki + 70s' Hollywood + BongJunho = Okja. Sounds great. Im gonna watch it.
I'm so disappointed at how little the film's star Ahn got to speak :( her answer at the end was very wise!
35:40 The director Bong's adorable funny answer 🤣🤣🤣
He is a maestro. Great film director of our generation.

There were many things lost in translation that simplified the director's statements.
Mire Lay True. Like a lot of fun details. But I guess it happens in translations due to time and because everything has to happen at once ^^

OMG enlighten me on this but isn't the interpreter behind Bong Joon Ho and An Seo Hyun is Kim Eun Sook ??????
I love how they still boo films at Cannes. How disrespectful and immature is that... comon.

okay so Lily Collins looks absolutely beAUtiful
