I’m writing from my wife’s account. I see that your video depicts your trap jaws are positioned assuming the coyote will come to the set from the side and not from the front, where the pipe is on an angle, when actually, because of the position of your pipe, the animal will more likely approach from the front. The way you have your jaws set, there is a chance that when the jaws close they will throw the coyote’s leg upward causing it’s leg to be thrown out of the trap or only having a toe hold, or you’ll lose the animal completely. This is often the case with lynx or bobcats because they are super quick (old saying ‘quick as cat’). Also, why not put a thin plastic tarp down under your legs to prevent the coyote or fox from picking up your scent off the ground especially when there is cold weather or snow that will hold the scent longer and lower to the ground. Cats have lousy noses and it isn’t necessary for them, but bad habits can lead to empty sprung traps and create trap wise animals as all these species are likely to approach your set. Gregg Shannon
Slade Garnett I’m getting close to catching a coyote I saw coyote tracks behind my trap in the snow I’m hoping to catch a coyote tonight I refurbish my coyote set this morning I hurried up to get the coyote set done I got the trap steady stabilized and it won’t rock or shift I put my weight on the dirt and trap and I rebaited my canine set
Looks good but I beg to differ on two points: trap speed and scent cover. Neither are necessary. A slower trap sneaks out of the ground instead of blowing dirt into the targets face (which typically results in toe catches) and nothing you do to cover scent will beat a canines nose, so I don't worry about it.
Agree 100%. My all time favorite trap is a #1.75 victor high locking. Laminated and baseplated it'll hold any coyote out there if you check them right and doesn't mess up fox or cats to bad
I have used this in the past with a lot of success... In my area it rains a lot and this helps keep the lure or bait dry. And up out of the snow when it snows... Although I do have to knock the snow off the top after the snow lays...

Assuming the critter is going to approach the set from the front, as intended, the trap is oriented 90 degrees off. Waxed sand?? 3 lb hammer?? #4 traps?? Must be a Catskill method??
Animal could approach from left, right or straight ahead. Trap was set with that in mind. The waxed dirt is very helpful in freezing/thawing conditions. It prevents the dirt from freezing and seizing up the trap. The 3lb hammer is helpful in getting the earth anchor through the frozen ground.
@@Whitetail_Properties You overlooked my intended sarcasm. Having trapped the Adirondacks for 20 years, I understand your methods.
