This game has potential, we just need from the developers to update it and make it look, feel, sound, and play better. So it can be at the level Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 was on. But the fact is, they don’t care or listen to the fans.

You have to attack with cursed techniques to do damage not regular attacks

i know someone else explained but here's a tiny bit more information
normal attacks (aka the ones that don't do damage) are used to build up your cursed energy bar
