  • Another bus vid now, and a subscribers request, more from South East London. Taken in 1999 just before Titan's were due to be withdrawn we see them at work in Lewisham with Routemasters & the odd NV as well. If you liked the video please subscribe to my channel, there are lots more transport & quirky vids to upload!

Wow. This is the old Lewisham station. Used to travel through here all the time as a kid, for school in Blackheath, and visiting family in Peckham and Camberwell.

Titans were still on the 185 in 2001. London Easylink even hired some of the Catford Titans from Stagecoach as they didn't have all their buses ready after the contract moved.

And by 2002 the Titans were back! Along with a hotchpot of other vehicles after London Easylinks went down. Blue Triangle was the emergency & then temporary contract holder and used their Titans & Metros along with various other operators vehicles contracted in to cover the route.

Not as old as I feel... I used to travel to Lewisham regularly because my Nan lived on the “new”estate on Loampit vale (built around ‘65 and already gone). Back then there was no bus station. Terminating routes went to Renell st one side of the block with the Odeon cinema in it. There were stands round the corner in Molesworth st, opposite the side of the new Safeway store that stood on the southern bank on the quaggy, back then it was an ordinary 2 lane wide road. The crews used to go to the greasy spoon next to the cinema I know the 176 terminated there as that’s the one Id catch at Forest Hill, but can’t recall what other routes did. It’s crazy how unrecognisable it is now. All the buildings around there have gone.

@@BristolRE That 'foot rest' is actually a fan motor! It protrudes into the cab so there is nowhere to put your foot on the floor properly. Being rather tall i found Metros more awkward to drive. Titan gear changes depended on the system being looked after properly by the garage electrician, i'm guessing MH's was a good Metro man with years of experience but not so hot with probably the worst throw outs from other garages with the Titans (ask an engineer which bus/es to loose, he will always pick the worst of his fleet!)
