@@chartreusephoenix6581 Well, their fashion does seem more in line with the early 20th century. However their tech definitely leans towards the middle.
IDK to me she seemed too hollywood instead of pseudo-victorian of book of AU 1930 of series. Wilson's Mrs Culter is more elegant and powerful in the way that maches the repressed/conservative society.
I love Ruth in that green gown, green is her color indeed. However, these other things/costumes that were chosen for her character are a bit boring and conservative. I expected to see more glamorous version of Marisa Coulter.
Nives Galić I certainly agree that I would love to see her in more glamorous or luxurious outfits like the green dress but I do think that the more conservative outfits are fitting considering that she has to work with the magisterium and its associates
I disgaree. It would be pretty silly if she was in the gowns all the time. She's a working woman not a hollywood closthes maneken (my problem with film's Coulter) I think all her outfits were elegant, beutiful, powerful and very approprite for any given situation.
Wait, does Serafina Pekkala have short hair in the series? No! T^T I need to get used to a totally different look :( I would have liked those gorgeous long locks like Eva Green had in the movie more. I LOVE the witches in this story!
@Ciara Milne You can still tie your hair for practical reasons. Didn't Eva tied it up a bit too in the movie? Long hair looks more feminine, alluring and mysterious in my opinion, which is what the witches are to me (next to my own personal preference for long hair on women). This all said, from what I saw, her face looks very pretty and mysterious and wise. I just really dont like short hair for her, I can't help it^^; (my first bad-ass female character was Xena. After her, I loved Lexa and Octavia from The 100, Bo (and also Tamsin) from Lost girl and Ryn from Siren. All have long hair so it's kinda harder for me to un-see so to speak xD)
interesting thing is that Ruta's hair are normally kept long, but they cut it for the character who's hair is supossed to be long? anyways, she's great. i'm looking forward for her performance, I hope we will see her tomorrow. :)
@@thirstymonk It's normally long? That is curious indeed..🤔 Either way, I too am looking forward to see how she plays that beloved character of mine :3 Who knows, maybe next episode indeed!
You mean if they eat meat or not? Animals and daemons and different and people can usually distinguish them so... I think they still eat meat. Lyra's breakfast in the first episode contains sausages so... they eat meat
@@thisiszof oh that’s an interesting thought though, one that hadn’t occurred to me before. Wonder if there’s a higher concentration of vegetarians in their society..

My favorite thing is how much the actors are LOVING everything about being a part of this!
1:54 Does anybody else notice Lin-Manuel Miranda playing with a stick in the background?
Cute
Oh Lin
oh my god that's the first time I see Serafina, and she's absolutely perfect !!!!!
I agree.
Lots of future episodes shown here. I always envisioned Serafina wearing black silk.
It's hard to see Serafina as anyone other than Eva Green. She was as perfect as Nicole Kidman as Mrs. Coulter.
Still, the new actors are really great.
@@David-un4cs true. I'm sure we'll grow into it and this is looking to be a better adaptation as a whole.
David Patterson The real tragedy of the film was that they had a perfect cast and wasted them utterly on a bad script.
The aesthetic of the show is just so gorgeous. The only way I could describe it is the 1930's version of steampunk (chromepunk?)
I believe they call it "Diesel Punk", usually defined as the period (at least in appearance) during, and between world wars.
@@Bulls3ye86 I looked up Dieselpunk fashion. And I feel it is a bit too extreme for the fashion in this show. I don’t mean that in a negative way.

@@Bulls3ye86 thanks I’m trying to learn about these types of fashions. They really interest me.
Yeah very 30s

Yes, he's trying to be invisible, so wearing a hoodie lets him blend into the background

I love Mrs Coulter’s outfits
Ruta Gedmintas kind of looks like Eva Green. Is it a coincidence that they play the same character in the story. ;)
Dafne Keen is adorable
Lin is going cowboy everyone you heard it here first!

I'm sorry you're disappointed but it's just hair! I'm sure they're gonna do her character justice like everything else, don't worry.
