Heian-era "Junihitoe" Princess outfit (十二単衣) at Gosho Yashiro No Mori (御所 社乃森)

We visited Gosho Yashiro No Mori (御所 社乃森) in Awa, Tokushima (徳島県阿波市), where my Princess was outfitted in a "Junihitoe" (十二単衣), a form of formal court dress worn by Princesses in the Japanese Imperial Court from the Heian-era (平安時代), which spanned from the 8th through 12th Century of classical period Japan.

完成したら重いと言われました。

I read Sei Shonagon’s “The Pillow Book” and I read a different translation (not the English one) but it said that women wore something called a “Chinese coat”. Mabye it was a coat inspired by something the Chinese wore back then?
