    I've been trying to make these for 10 years and have discovered a dozen ways to make them fail or just look crappy (mostly with help from instructables). this will go a long way to letting me finally con as RamDragon! They look awesome, and are actually the right size! you are amazing!

    Great tutorial, love the design, but you didn't include how to attach them to your head. In the intro you have them right on the top of your forehead, but I can't figure out a good way to keep them there.

  • @mil7452
    @mil7452 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    is upholstery foam ok? its not a thick foam, soft flimsy and thin, but would it theoretically have the same result? and if not, are there any common household ways to reprimend this?

    • @EvilTedSmith
      @EvilTedSmith  ปีที่แล้ว

      In theory, it should work. The best way to know is to try and let me know how it works out.

  • @sewlittlemouse6365
    @sewlittlemouse6365 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This is brilliant. I have one question...Would it be feasible to make the horns smaller for child size? I'm sure it would be. My 3 1/2 yo watched the video with me and loves them. This video made my morning. Thank you. Off to the website. :)

    • @StefyB5
      @StefyB5 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think you can easily size down the pattern by tracing a parallel line a few centimeters on the inside of its edges, but the smaller the parts get the harder it will be to glue them together. There's just one way to find out: try it. :)

    • @sewlittlemouse6365
      @sewlittlemouse6365 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't think I would have to down size it much. I'm defiantly going to try it. Thanks. :)

    I'm wondering why you didn't fill the horns with something to make them retain the shape or make them sturdier? it feels like they will end up flat if you touch their sides.

    • @EvilTedSmith
      @EvilTedSmith  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hi! First of all, your videos are great!
    I would like to start working with foam, but I have a question: Often you use heat to change the shape of the foam. Is this risky for your health? I am always worried because I do not know the chemicals inside the material, so I would like to know some security tips for health. I have only worked with Worbla so far. Sorry for my bad English and greetings from Europe!

    • @AlbertoMartinez765
      @AlbertoMartinez765 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your just heating it enough to soften it if your Melting it to the point its burning and giving off fumes your doing it wrong.

  • @mathildepateau1741

    Could you bevel the edges of the foam pieces to make a more triangular shaped horn?
    How did you go about drafting the pattern for these? I know you probably sell this pattern in your shop but I was curious.

    • @EvilTedSmith
      @EvilTedSmith  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I used a real ram horn, wrapped it in foil, duct taped it and made a pattern.

    Hey Ted, love your videos and work, as always! :-)
    A haunter I subscribe to is StiltbeastStudios, and he does a lot of really cool work, though not in foam. He does however use plastic sheet as a kind of heat shrink covering to make skin, etc, and even horns. I am curious and will have to try and see if the plastic bags will melt/shrink before the foam distorts, as that would make a really easy covering and give some special effect possibilities.

    Do you have suggestions for antlers?

    • @tomguiney
      @tomguiney 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I made a pretty good set like this. first image shows seams, useflu for copying. photos.google.com/search/_tra_/photo/AF1QipMcdnE9ONcKB17wPsz-XOjpyMdjptJ7PY7fbee_ and the finished version: www.dropbox.com/s/aw22abc4ascomxp/%202018%20potter%20card%207%20copy%20Resized.jpg?dl=0 Used 2 layers of foam; all pieces are two layers thick sandwiched. Make the main curved trunk of the antlers flat, then heat form it to give it the right curvature. the various spikes are also 2 layers thick, do a bit of heat forming and sanding to shape all of them, then glue the spikes on to the trunk where they are supposed to go. If you can get hold of a set of real antlers to copy, that will help.

    straight pins are for plebs.
    Just joking, but I find using a spray adhesive, especially a template adhesive, works better. If you have a heat gun, you just hit it lightly and it causes heat failure in the adhesive, which just peels off.
