Man the respect and friendship that you and your Dad have here is really beautiful. Like it's been said before, but it's so special you get to enjoy great works of art together and speak about your distinct points of views in your own voices..and that they're fully embraced. The fact that you chose this song made that dynamic feel even more visceral. You're both very lucky.
I wrote something similar, not quite as eloquent as you but reading your comment I’m positive we are on the same wavelength and what either of us wouldn’t give to have a moment of what they are experiencing. Great comment.
This beats my story as I was never closer than 50ft from the stage, but I'll share in any case. Delores didn't mention it herself, but word circulating through the audience was that she'd invited the teachers at her kids' school to the show, which I thought was the sweetest gesture.
@@frontroom Just encountered your channel through this and your Radiohead reaction, and will keep watching! The closest I can come to a traditional song by an Irish band would be to recommend: 1. DEAD CAN DANCE: Australian band, but singer Brendan Perry lives in Ireland, and they are highly influenced by traditional Gaelic and Middle Eastern sounds and instruments. The Wind That Shakes the Barley is a Robert Dwyer Joyce Irish poem that the other singer, Lisa Gerrard, sings acapella. Desert Song and Rakim are great Middle Eastern sounding songs, due to the use of the Chinese Dulcimer stringed instrument, worth listening to as well to see what they're capable of instrumentally. 2. CAMERA OBSCURA: Swimming Pool (live in Madrid), Happy New Year, Houseboat... are some of the many great songs by this Scottish band whose singer, Tracyanne Campbell, has the sweetest voice and loveliest accent ever.
He's dad is great. I loved my dad. He was kind of an absentee dad, but when he was around I utterly adored the man. I just wished we could have shared more of our lives together.
This song gets me emotional because it reminds me of my childhood in mid 90s Ireland when the grey 80s depression had passed and things got better year after year. Jurassic Park came out. We were on a road to peace in Northern Ireland, Man United were on a road to the Champions League, Schumacher and Ferrari were on a road to dominating F1, and i was enjoying a fun youth with my friends on our bikes without any of the stresses that life gave me later. Ireland wasn't without problems but it was a good place to grow up, and for me this song defines the sense of Irishness we had then.
"Those strings are pretty, but mournful... okay, I'll shut up!..." followed by the "it's always a bit of a dilemma, because those are the thoughts going through my head -- should I articulate them in the moment, or wait until later?"... That ironically almost sums up the song itself (to me), and all "Dad" heard was the intro. Please don't ever let TH-cam instruct the value of your relationship/chemistry/content!
I really hope you are taking time to take in every moment with your father. One day hopefully not for a long time, you will look back on these moments and you will realize this time was the best time of your life. I envy what you have with your Dad, it is a blessing and a truly beautiful thing!
to me the highlight of the song is Delores' outstanding backing vocals overdubbed over her lead vocal, it adds such a haunting effect. She was such a talent. And yes the way the rythym comes in behind the melody in the intro is perfect.
Man....this song takes me back to high school....I closed my eyes listening to this song and got tears in my eyes only to open them and see your dad doing the same. Thanks for playing different music and more than that just enjoying music...period.
Give ur dad a huge hug for me 😢 he’s so sweet I honestly love how he shows his emotions and how he tears up , such a gentle caring soul , thank you for sharing your dad with us . This really heals something in me
I cried hard when Dolores passed. Even today when i hear anything especially this song played i get super emotional. I miss her soo much! I also really miss Layne Staley.
As a kid of the 90’s, I was in love with the cranberries. My favorite song is, I can’t be with you. Highly recommended that for a video. It’s another uptempo/sad song and her vocal range in that song is so dynamic.
im a sucker just like your dad.. cried with him every single time and im only 30 but they are all incredible and powerful songs, this, tupac dear mama and i can't remember what else.. best of luck to you two
The Cranberries are Irish (like me) they are one of my favourites, I met Delores O'Riordian before & she was so kind, polite... I love The Cranberries, it'll be great to see you guys cover their albums. ❤
Saw The Cranberries live in Killarney, Ireland in 2023….They were outstanding! Best concert I’ve been to. First concert I was at that had a big fireworks display at the end too.
From Ireland here, always love watching these videos of yours when I know the song. Since you were wondering about the pronunciation, the second syllable of O'Riordan is pronounced the same as "rear".
Music has always been something my dad and I connected over. He taught me oldies/soul/rock n roll and then brought me to warped tour in my emo phase of high school. Love what you two are doing ❤
I grew up in the 90s listening to the Cranberries. At some point theirs was the only music I was listening to. Their first three albums are phenomenal, and I'm especially tied to the first one, the one Linger belongs to. They haven't done any traditional Irish music, but their catalog is full of songs that have hints here and there of Irish folk inflections. For instance, Will you remember from their third album, To the faithful departed, and What you were, a b-side from their first album. One of my favourite songs of theirs is a cover of the beautiful (They long to be) Close to you by The Carpenters. You might want to check that out, the arrangement of their version is sublime, your father will love it.
I love the Cranberries, specifically this song. Very nostalgic. I would suggest listening to Goapele-Closer. It's an amazing song that also brings a great feeling. May make pops cry as well.
I love the way you described the intro instrumental as being a necessary element of the storytelling! I so agree. Yall remind me so much of my dad and me and how we talk about music. It's so comforting
Very very good. This review/reaction of my favorite Cranberries song (the lyrics and delivery get me every time) was truly top notch. Hitting the subscribe button.
i’m just a guy here overseas in europe but i would walk on my hands to you both to give you a big hug. i was lucky seeing the berries live in the mid 90s
This is so wholesome, watching dad get emotional is such an awesome thing cause i love The Cranberries! Please give Ode to family a listen! Its on another level!
Just went back and watched your reaction to Zombie and laughed at how much Kai's style has changed -- definitely for the better lol. Please do Dreams at some point too
What a beautiful reaction to this incredible song and iconic band. Thank you both so much for sharing your earnest and insightful musings while experiencing these pieces by great artists. I would love to hear your thoughts on "Dreams" if you get around to it. Cheers to you both!
From other suggestions for different songs for Cranberries, my personal favourites are "Promises", "Ode to my family". Also "No need to argue" and "Animal Instinct" can get you in "the feels".
Enjoyed your reactions. Just a heads up the Irish government and the UK government no longer recognize the British Isles as including Ireland so it’s the British and Irish Isles or the Anglo Celtic Isles. British Isles is a colonial term showing ownership over Ireland. The Romans named the island Hibernia, and was never considered part of the British Isles until the British government started using that term in the 17th century. So any music coming out of Ireland would not be considered British but Irish.
I am so happy that TH-cam recommendet your reaction to me. This is beautiful song and it brings so many memories in me. And then your father is awesome man he reminds me of my dad who is unfortunately not more wit us 😢 Beautiful reaction guys!! Much love ❤❤
Great reaction! Cool to see appreciation for this song and band in such an authentic way. The Cranberries have lots of great tracks. Try "When Your Gone" - a beautiful blend of crooning and keening. If you'd like something more like Zombie, try "Ridiculous Thoughts" Also, another Irish band that does contemporary songs from the 90's & 2000s are The Corr's. A band of 4 siblings who also cover some traditional tracks.
Boygenius covered "The Parting Glass" with Ye Vagabonds- A SUPER trad song from the Scotland and Ireland- to raise money for a charity chosen by the estate of Sinead O'Connor. You both will LOVE it. Keep tissues handy.
I'm a little late to the party but I love the last 30 seconds just as much as the first 30 seconds. And the stuff in the middle is pretty good too! Next time, try "Just My Imagination" by the Cranberries. It'll wipe those tears away and put a smile on your face. Unless you accidently get "Just My Imagination" by the Temptations. Then, keep that box of tissues near by.
so lovely to watch you guys interact!! great relationship! i love Dolorus and the Cranberries, god i wore that album out in my "discman"!!! i really loved her poetic lyrics and irish accent through the music
Kai you have a very good taste in music. I love seeing your reactions. The Cranberries are also my favorite band from the 90's. I have actively experienced them. This song still brings tears to my eyes.
I love watching yall. It reminds me of sitting with my own Pops and listening to music, only it was the flip. I know a lot of classic rock, blues, swing, and Motown thanks to my Pops. Keep this up. It’s these moments that’ll be what sustains you after your parents pass on.

Absolutely agree!
Rory!
I so agree❤
I met Delores, she sang with me and one other person in the room. She had a phenomenal voice and was down to earth and generous
All I can say is “wow”! (dad)

My hats off to Dad, not worried about showing his feelings and emotions, music always does it to me...Respect!
Being in my 20s in the 90s this song hits me hard now.

This is in my top 5 of the greatest songs ever, the melody, the music, its all perfection

That's was my childhood in 90s Dublin to a T.
"Dreams" is a must!!! Growing up in ireland, this song was always played and its so nostalgic 🇮🇪

RIP sweet Dolores.
The Cranberries were apart of my high school soundtrack. I still have my old cassettes 🥰
I also have all their cassettes even though I don’t have any cassette player.
Bro you made your TH-cam account when I was 2 years of age
Linger is one of the tracks in the 90s that will stay dear to me. Everytime i hear it will trigger me back to my childhood. Rest in power Dolores!

Same! I liked the boy next door and he was messing with my feelings constantly so I feel like I lived this song back then!!
"No need to argue" is pure Cranberries emotion. Would love to see you looking into that.
I second that... one of the best 90s albums
ode to my family is beautiful as is when you're gone
2 of the best!

Me and my Daddy were just like this bro. Miss him everyday 💯💯💯
Cranberries❤
- Ode to my family
- Animal instinct
Yes yes yes!!!! Just my imagination, daffodil laments, dreams and go your own way too. Maybe their version of in the ghetto.
Like MANY of their songs, it’s absolutely insaneeee how beautiful this song is
Sheer perfection in music often brings me to tears - this song qualifies. I’m with your Dad 😅
I cried hard when Dolores passed. Even today when i hear anything especially this song played i get super emotional. I miss her soo much! I also really miss Layne Staley.

I ❤ The Cranberries. Your dad and my dad would get along so perfect! They would have such great conversation over music!
The start of this song makes me tingle!!!

I’m sitting here crying right along with you. This song is a time and a place for me that isn’t there anymore. But, man, does the memory linger.
Perfectly worded. That describes how this song makes me feel too. A lot of 90s music actually
Great song!! Such a beautiful song, beautiful beat, beautiful melody, beautiful voice……such a classic! ❤❤

Love the interaction between you too.
By the way, O’Riordan, which is also my surname, is pronounced Oh/Reer/den
Every time I hear Dolores voice it gives me chills, beautiful review of Linger guys
This is much more representative of their sound than “Zombie”.
For years after her dad passed Delores couldn't bring herself to sing this song. At one concert she broke down and the crowd finished it for her
