In Polish culture there used to be a tradition in witch the color and arangement of your belt had a lot of difrent meanings , those belts were like 4-5meters long and had really complicated patterns, also belts had 2 sides one for holidays (and sundays i think) and one for everyday use, I feel like it would fit really well in your world :p (it was called "pas kontuszowy")
@@resphantom It would be funny, but no, they are not suitable for modern garments and the traditional folk style dress comes from a different time period and social class. Those huge belts were, as one can imagine, only for the elite of the society.
That kinda reminds me of something I did in one of my own works in which members of the church wear different coloured drapes over their shoulder and looped around their waist depending on their current duties. And this video as well as your comment has got me thinking that different patterns can signify their personal experiences or important events
I’m Thai and I’ve never seen Thai historical clothing implemented into media before. I grew up wearing these clothes for traditional Thai dance performances and really enjoyed this video and your meticulous design process. Thank you for representing our culture so well.
Dude that’s sooo cool! My cousins in viet just took a vacation to Thailand and showed me some pictures of a performance they got to see their friends in. It was gorg!
I am thai, and i was hoping that there would be a thai comment. It's true that it's so cool to see a part of my culture implemented in a work of art , it really melts my heart since there's closs to non thai influence in western art and works.
I really love how all of this, created by just one guy, is better and more creative than 99% of modern fantasy media created by huge companies with massive budgets
Yeah a lot of money they want Back with interest. Their designers are not Bad. But they have to live of the work. The Design has to work for a Major audience. Creative over the top things are nice for people like you and me. But Studios don't Trust most viewers will. Most viewers sadly like things they know. I dont actually think that the designers and story tellers in big companies are less creative, they just get shut down by the bosses and marketing teams because they NEED to appeal to a bigger audience, so we dont get too see the amazing things that are not deemed marketable
I'm not an artist. I love how you discuss the design aspects of art as a way to communicate ideas visually, beyond just the baseline focus of "looking good" that I think a lot of people don't see past when they consider art.
goddamn your content in incredible. A lot of people can draw really well, and have some good ideas, but few are able to create such a cohesive art direction for everything to fit into. I'm surprised no major studio has come after you with your recent explosion in popularity. If I ever am in the position to have you on board, you can bet I'll be calling!
From my contemporary, American point of view, the male clothing you explored seems more outlandish than the female clothing. Someone uninitiated in the Victorian period could mistake the dress as historical, not so much with the man with his billowing pants and pointy shoes. Great work as always, it's been inspiring to see you grow from 400 to 160,000 subscribers so quickly. :-)
it's always a treat to see you upload, and talk in such a down to earth "here's what i think, here's my entire process. I don't think it's the best, and that's okay" whatever you do, please don't let your channel's recent explosion in popularity force you into making more mass appeal, high energy content, i really like this low stakes, chill talk. it feels almost like you're talking me through making something in front of a hearth or woodstove on a cold winter's evening
I am quite emphatically not an artist- pure writer here- but I find your work fascinating. I think Victorian + Thai is a good combo for one specific country. You don't want to throw in too much or it will turn into a mess.
I love your work! And gods, I relate heavily with the clothing. In my own stories and worlds, I can never fully settle on what they really wear and how it differs.
These clothes are AMAZING. I would say that the way to perhaps push your concepts is to select a half dozen occupations, and then design clothes around them. That might give you ideas of what other sources to draw from.
around 2:10 when you talk about using Victorian clothing to represent 'more recent', industrial feeling, I feel like you should be aware that traditional dress was worn in plenty of industrialized countries and regions up until that was changed and erased by colonists to present themselves as the most advanced. You can be a lot freer in your designs if you want to be!
I'm 100% along for the ride! The world you have created so far is captivating and I cant wait to see more. I hope you don't feel rushed or intimidated by so many new viewers, you cant rush such amazing world building so take all the time you need 🙂
Your designs are so cool, the blend of the two inspiring cultures has resulted in something genuinely stylish and novel! This was just as intriguing as any other of your videos, because it gives more insight into the world's design and cultures, so don't feel every video needs to be about "lore" :)
Your view and approach to so many aspects of worldbuilding really help me with my own. Of course your ideas themself are very inspiring but just plainly copying them or taking huge portions of them and changing them for my own setting doesnt really is that excitining. Its so much better to get to know some of your thought process behind all of those ideas and use implement that into my own. Thanks for giving us insight into this amazing project. Also your voice is both calming and sexy af :O
This is amazing, I'm glad that your channel has a large audience now. as many other comments have said keep doing what you're doing and try not to stress about the increase in eyes on your work, we just wish to observe your process and see how your work evolves and progress :)
I love how big of a standard you've set for yourself in regards to worldbuilding and originality. It really does make your work stand out from among the masses, which is something I aspire to do too. You're a great inspiration!
These are so cool! As someone who struggles greatly with clothing in my stories as well, it's nice to know I'm not alone on that front haha I love all your videos, even if they "don't have any lore", they each add a new piece to your world and I think that's wonderful and a piece of lore in and on itself I absolutely love your work! Take care and rest, thank you for sharing:)
Once again, a single video from this guy has given me endless inspiration for my own fantasy world. Thank you, Monstergarden! You truly are a godsend to aspiring creators.
I always wanted to actually pursue world-building and build a cohesive one to set stories inside of. I was always put off by it, by being told my whole life that there are other more important things to do and pursue. Your channel really helps me slowly garner the motivation to start out and try putting all the concepts I have together. I really like the way you build your world and think about it and I enjoy exploring it throughout your videos. It's a really inspiring process to be able to come tag along with you and your thoughts instead of just being presented with the finished product outright.
I fucking love what you put out! I love the calm videos of just talking about the process, I love the lore, I love the characters you've introduced, and I love the theme and setting of this whole world. I thank you so much for making this. It's given me a calm thing to escape to as summer rolls around, and with it, the heat. Your stuff is amazing, and I have a request. Would you allow me to use your world as the base for a DND campaign I want to dm for my friends? I would give you full credit for all the lore, and I won't be making any money off it. And if the answer is no, I completely understand, and would not be upset. Love your videos man. Keep it up🤘
i think your hard criticism of your own ideas is very telling to us just how passionate you are about this world! every new piece you share with us is beautiful in its own way. the simpler designs may seem lacking to you but when applying them to this project as a whole, they provide an interesting new facet for creativity to spout from! your documentation of your creative process is also extremely helpful to those of us who are in the same world-building era of our artistic lives xD so, thank you!!!
I really like your videos, the designs and your thought proces are both very interesting. You also have a calming voice, so your videos are nice to relax to
I’ve never seen a channel blow up like this, I’m just apart of the wave but this is some great content. As a world builder myself I wish I could display my ideas the way you do. You have incredible talent for both arts and I love getting to see your work. But as someone who does this as a hobby It takes time. Don’t let the pressure of this wave make you sacrifice your work for content. I think the community thsts gathering here would prefer fewer videos that are true to your vision than regular or frequent content.
This is awesome! I especially love how well you captured the Victorian silhouette, a lot of drawings/clothing that’s supposed to be “Victorian inspired” doesn’t even seem to capture the essentials of Victorian clothing (i.e. rounded bust, and clothing that amplifies the shoulders and hips which gives the illusion of a smaller waist). If you do ever plan on revisiting the clothing I would suggest playing with what undergarments these people would have worn, as they are pretty similar between all people and give a good idea to what shapes could be built off of them. (That’s also where I tend to start when designing fantasy clothing)
I love to see your approach to design. I can relate to that feeling of "is this design inspired by my references or is it just a mismatch of them". But I definitely feel that your characters have a distinct culture on their own
I’m studying anthropology and cultural geography in college, and I find it fascinating how you incorporate how cultures are influenced by geography, religious differences, trade, etc. for example, trading societies are more flamboyant like renaissance Italy, but a backwater area with little potential for trade might be more culturally distinct and more focused on survival! This whole interconnected system that mimics real life is a step above many other fantasy worlds! Keep it up!
Love this video! I'm Thai and half American but I lived in Thailand whole life. I showed my great aunt whois full thai your design and she thought it was really nice what you did. Luckily my great aunt is also a professional artist and art teacher and myself also does art and on my way to becoming a concept artist. Historically Thai tradiontal clothing at that time period was inspired by many factors. Being a buddhist country you can for inspiraton from Indian culture, even Cambodia. Or you could just focus on Khmer culture and the Khmer Empire. I hope this serves as some inspiration or at least helps with the process even if it does not suit your story but as long as it helps with progression. You are a big inspiration for me and keep up the great work!
The process and creation of art is arguably just as important as the final piece. watching all of the passion and creativity unfold is what makes me click on every video
I have now seen all of your videos. You are an amazing artist. You make terrific lore. You are a very profound story teller. Don’t stress. Keep having fun. You do not owe us anything, we’re all here only for the journey: seeing occasional glimpses of your absolutely compelling world.
“It always feels like more could be added, and that the design doesn’t really add anything new and feels kind of generic…” ->> He says, as he proceeds to illustrate the most artfully detailed textiles, exotically scaffolded jewelry, and elegantly cut tailoring I have seen in an original fantasy world in years. Classic Mostergarden Vibes, tbh. Truly beautiful work! And yes, your intuition around these being base-clothing models is a wise one. A vibrant culture accommodates a wide range of appropriate garments and fashions. Given the nature of your world and the magic system, perhaps there might be fun in considering the arcane properties of certain agricultural products which are processed to produce the fabrics and weaves in the first place. Could a simple vest be woven with certain fibers that render it impervious to certain magical effects? Etc. And of course, don’t forget hair styles and make-up! So much to explore there. I love it so much.
I love a lot how you think about your design, it's a pretty cool process of thinking, and yes you are right a normal tipe of cothing that don't stand out would make other designs more important when they appear
I think it actually strikes a really good blend for clothing, which admittedly is not a category I particularly fixate on one for aesthetics, but it has distinctive flairs while still feeling grounded enough that actual cultures would make and wear them, whether you end up changing the designs or keeping them exactly as is I think it will look good and fit with the broader aesthetic, keep up the great work, I absolutely love your worldbuilding!
Love the art work, love the clothing, the intricate patterns with the more muted colours and baggy but form fitting in some area clothing, it really catches the eye, almost seems regal in a way, while also being formal... a lot of fun, I would wear it that's for sure. Edit: spelling and added some different vocab.
Man, I just recently found out about your channel and I can already tell I love it so much and will binge most, if not all of your videos. I've been thinking about uploading concept pieces of my own and this is a huge inspiration, thank you.
I just love the feel of your videos. Watching your work is great but the part were you express your way of thinking and imagining is even better and all of that with a chill tone
Knotwork designs are really interesting as they most likely evolved from actual decorative knots and I believe are also mostly accociated with maritime culture as sailors need to know knots, but also get free boredom time to get really good at knots.
Fabulous work as always ❤️ I think Thai clothing and architecture are criminally underused in fantasy art so I’m happy to see them represented in your world in a tasteful and informed way
I love the design. And i am eager to see more of it. I think the greatest difficulty with creating a new world is, when you take inspiration from our world, people have expectations. They think they know what to expect. But when on create a new world the visual inspiration is a starting point and not the end result. Don´t be so hard on yourself. Play with all the stuff you want, take your time and share bits and pieces along the way, so we can join you along the journey.
I really did enjoy this video! Fleshing out a world and adding new content is great, but going over what's been established and just talking about it every now and again is also very welcome!!
Looks amazing, keep it up! And don't feel pressured to make all the videos have lore and stuff, we're just happy to be here to watch your amazing process.
Getting to see parts of your world and how you are deciding your design elements is so incredible to see! Thank you for sharing your work and your process your videos are fascinating to watch!
Man this is awsome, the effort that you are putting into it is insane and i love how you are just not simply developing already existing concepts but you are making them your own. Keep it up!!
Awesome work, man. This is what we're looking for in fantasy worlds, the "small" details in the worldbuilding that make it all the most believable, precise. Keep it up, can't wait to see more of these !
Concerning the point you mentioned at the end, about some designs being simple helps others pop out. It's the same in music I thought: Some instruments play main parts while others back them up. If all of them were to have complex parts, it would just be chaos.
The process is what we have to enjoy to get to the pay off. And then we start over again. Love your work, and we pleasantly enjoy your process, just keep loving it.
I’ve been binging like all of these videos. Dude you are such an amazing artists, all these concepts and stories are so captivating. I’m completely sold on this world. Looking forward to more videos!
Abaolutely love it, I will mention that what you refer to as nordic knot patterns look more celtic, they had a focus on the symmetry and patterns that worked with geometry, while Scandinavian and norse knotwork was much more free flowing and terminated or started new 'branches' as the artist saw fit
I truly love your world building and concepts. Its unique and I find myself drawn to it. Keep up the good work and I can't wait for the next video you make! 😊
Wish i could do more than offer thanks for sharing such a wonderfully horrifying world. The art is scary in the best way so i’m not sure changing it would work. Much love, glad i found your channel
I really enjoy all of your videos, even just the process ones! Your art and process and writing is a joy to experience, thank you for sharing it so much 💙
Over the last week I have become obsessed with your channel! I have had a surge of inspiration to write more for my worldbuilding project! I am even going to begin learning how to draw just so I can show what I want things to look like!
You have such a wonderful speaking voice! I love being able to hear the creative process, as it's being done. Worlds aren't all monuments and people with titles. They're full of laymen, the common folk, and civil buildings used to keep provincial life going. Please, never stop posting🤩This is quickly become one of my favorite channels !
I want to make a DnD module for your world. I’m so glad you stopped making your world for a DnD campaign, we should make a campaign for your world. I’ve never seen such unique takes on what you cover, but I can never look away. I can’t wait to see more!
really good stuff. I have become really interested in your world after I watched the video about the magic system. I thought it was really creative like the huge pillars in the world. Even tho I am shit at drawing I have also once came up with a world like yours in my head. and even though I couldnt really put everything into physical stuff It is great to just think about mechanics and etc. for a fantasy world. great to see someone else with great drawing skills doing it.
Great video, I loved learning your process here. I very much struggle to explore the types of clothing the societies I create wear, to the point I usually just take everything from a culture and describe it only when necessary. So your work here blew me away!!
After watching the video 27 times I can certifiably say this is a Monstergarden classic.

Aside from the beautiful work, it's very satisfying to hear your sound reasoning come to fruition. Keep up the great work!
Fabulous work as always ❤️
I think Thai clothing and architecture are criminally underused in fantasy art so I’m happy to see them represented in your world in a tasteful and informed way
I love the design.
I could watch you draw for hours. Those videos give me the feeling of passion that I missed from DND
The nordic/lotus knots is a really neat design inspiration.
Clothing IS lore though. When done right, it immediately envelopes you in the setting. I'd love to see more vids like this as well.
Here at 12k I’ll be here at 1.2 mil, keep up the good work. Such high quality content and a great narrator!
Your channel has grown so much in such a short time, love your stuff, man!
Genious design as always. ❤ Love you man.
This is really great. I think it's awesome you nailed down a simple design for the fashion. Already there's a sense of culture from the shape language
they look dapper as hell, the colours are really nice.
The process is what we have to enjoy to get to the pay off. And then we start over again. Love your work, and we pleasantly enjoy your process, just keep loving it.
your mindset is amazing, even the simplest things like clothing have such huge thought put into them.
Love your design philosophy so much! I'm a huge fan of the way you think through your process and designs. Definitely taking notes!
Every video is great. I love your world building and character art. Your art style in general is pleasing.
I love this please keep having fun with it, that's the best way to make something last and I don't want this story to end.
I love the "if everything is ovedetailed nothing will stand out" I need to put this thought into my art form too
Your style is so great and unique, keep it up man
God damn, that's a really good worldbuilding. Love your art and voice ❤
Every day with a new Monstergarden video is a good day!
I love this world you're building! its also very insightful to hear your process in how you create, and helped inspire creativity within myself.
Your art and process and writing is a joy to experience, thank you for sharing it so much 💙
Your attention to simplicity and reality in you fantastical setting is *chef's kiss* beautiful.
No need to apologize for lack of lore my guy! Just seeing the process and the final result from it is inspiring in itself.
Over the last week I have become obsessed with your channel! I have had a surge of inspiration to write more for my worldbuilding project! I am even going to begin learning how to draw just so I can show what I want things to look like!
You're quickly becoming one of my favorite artists both visually and in storytelling.
Man, I trully adore Your concepts and world building and everything You do! Amazing work!
Please give us more of this world. Your ideas are FAR from clichéd.
Damn, this is so soothing
You have such a wonderful speaking voice! I love being able to hear the creative process, as it's being done. Worlds aren't all monuments and people with titles. They're full of laymen, the common folk, and civil buildings used to keep provincial life going. Please, never stop posting🤩This is quickly become one of my favorite channels !
Fashion in fantasy settings has to be one of my fav aspects of work-building
I want to make a DnD module for your world. I’m so glad you stopped making your world for a DnD campaign, we should make a campaign for your world. I’ve never seen such unique takes on what you cover, but I can never look away. I can’t wait to see more!
I can tell you're passionate about this project you're working on, I wish you the best of luck! I hope your creative journey grows with you :)
really good stuff.
I really love how you draw, hope I can get as good one day
Loving the background music to this video, it seems fitting and doesn’t drown your voice
No need to apologize about lack of lore, this is fantastic!
