My one problem with this game is this: Samus is a BOUNTY HUNTER, as in a space mercenary for hire! Why the hell does she have to follow orders!? Adam didn't even establish a payment plan for her services, she's basically doing this mission for free. i'm not kidding, does she even get paid after this mission?
There is a valid logic for someone operating in a Galactic Federation facility having to follow orders from GF military officers, it's GF property and if the GF marines are looking for survivors it would make sense to place some sensible limitations on the independent operative such that the risk of said operative killing survivors by accident through liberal use of their most powerful weapons. HOWEVER, as everyone is aware the limitations placed upon Samus are far from sensible and both Adam's refusal to allow her to use basic equipment when she needs it (e.g. Hell Run) and Samus' refusal to activate plainly necessary gear is are ridiculous beyond measure and show the "father/daughter" relationship between them to be decidedly one-sided and extremely unhealthy; while she idolises him (because reasons) he seems to treat her mostly with contempt and disregard.

But I think that's the problem. Samus isn't "human". She was raised by an ex-warrior race who taught her their old warrior ways. Even among humans, you can take a grown man, send him to the military to essentially become a modern warrior (soldier) and break him down to the point that he loses his humanity and comes back with PTSD after the stuff they commit due to being able to act based on their training. The Chozo didn't need to break Samus. She was just a child. All they really had to do was mold her into a warrior. And even then, I don't think they raised her to be a monster. She was raised by the now peaceful Chozo. But she was still raised to be a warrior. That's why so many people were upset when she freaked out when she encounters Ridley in this game. Up to this point, we all kinda assumed she was hard enough to be able to face this childhood trauma and not flinch due to context clues and lore. Samus may be human, but she was raised as a child by something that wasn't. Kinda like those stories of children raised by wolves and then they're all animalistic, Samus was raised by a warrior race to be a warrior. She is still going to have emotions, but if humans can train other humans to suppress those emotions, imagine what an alien race could accomplish with a child.

It played nothing like a Metroid game, had 0 exploration, 0 nostalgia (save for the references I'm expected to jizz my pants over), 0 common sense, and 0 replay value. This is what happens when you make a game that is supposed to be about lone-wolf exploration and turn it into an action-drama that retcons literally everything that we know about Metroid.

You know, if they ever did remake Super Metroid in 3D, it would be funny to play the end of the game with Ridley's remains on the Gravity Suit. And it made sense for Samus to be afraid of Ridley when she first sees him. On the 7th encounter ? Not so much.
The94Venom In Other M she thought he was gone for good. Wouldn't you be afraid if you knew your archenemy was supposed to be dead forever especially since the rest of his remains got vaporized by Zebes exploding. Who would expect someone to scrub the DNA of him off your suit? I would be terrified if I saw him again. I found the concept of Ridley evolving somewhat interesting too.

Taller women are generally seen less attractive than shorter women. Cuz really, it seems like attractiveness was the only influence for all of Samus' design choices.
People forget that in flashbacks, Samus is a teenager and not fully grown yet compared to Other M where she's in her mid-late 20s. Several years make a big difference. Plus, in the later scenes, she's kinda hunched over and not standing a full height, suit or no suit. She's usually bending her legs, leaning forward. Usually a tactic for those that face combat in order to move more quickly. In that later scene, she's still recovering from Adam shooting at her, and isn't standing tall because she's regaining her bearings. Stop making false assumptions. Also, You think she's flat footed in the Power/Varia Suit? No foot support whatsoever?? Wow, even more false assumptions.
Also, the problem with Samus’s high heels. It’s common knowledge that Samus’s Zero Suit doesn’t have them, and the devs were EXPLICITLY TOLD not to do that, and they just go and fucking do it anyway.
Wow...Samus' voice actress sounds like she couldn't care less about anything that's going on. Also...wait...a grapple beam is considered to be more dangerous than...well, any of the other things Samus can do? Why wasn't she allowed to just keep that on? It's not like it's any more lethal than...well...her missiles or normal beam weapon.
It's a shame too because if you look up the voice actress' past work, she's pretty damn good. It's the direction she was given that was bloody awful in this game.

The game was meant to heavily appeal to japan since the series has always sold next to nothing there, and they were going for a very melodramatic anime approach with the story and voices. It doesn't translate good at all to being in english.
This game is part of a continuity with a comic that wasen't released in america and this game was made more so for Japanese audiences that's why samus is the way she is in this game

She's a bad-ass, efficient bounty hunter who left the calagtic federation army for dissagreeing on how she was being used. Not a whiny damsel in distress getting ptsd from meeting her parents killer for the 4th, possibly 5th, including metroid 2's remake 6th time she meets him, to which she lost the ptsd AFTER the first time she meets him again as a young adult (metroid manga). She's not an idiot who lets herself be treated in the same way that led her to refuse orders by leaving the army in the first place. Adam would never earn Samus' respect by the way he behaves in the game. It was simply a dumb way to prevent Samus from using her full arsenal for gameplay mechanics. The devs thought that orders from Adam were a good reason because "the lore established that Samus respects Adam", not that Adam EARNED Samus' respect. It's bad writing and lazy game developing.
@Chelline R. She was never a Mary Sue. She was a great Bounty hunter with nearly perfect judgement when it came to dangerous situations. This does not mean she was perfect, ever. She did have PTSD, but if you read the manga, she clearly deals with it in the form of anger, not fear. At this point in the timeline she has no reason to cry at the sight of Ridley. Besides, you may think she I a Mary Sue because she never had an overdone emotional struggle, but that's because we have only ever really seen her doing her job, which she is amazing at as we all know. But what about socializing? It's pretty obvious that Samus has a very limited grasp on the concept of friendship, and would probably react poorly in any social situation. What about arts, music, any other skill. A Mary Sue is a character who is perfect at everything he/she does. The only thing we know Samus is good at is being a bounty hunter. What about during her downtime? She could very well be struggling and we just never get to see it. We don't know what else she is and isn't good at for the most part, but we all know that she is inexperienced at being a PERSON. That is probably one of the main reasons she really left the federation. She couldn't stand being around people, because she can't understand them or relate to them.

One of the worst parts is that the story of this game acts contradictory to almost every part of Metroids canon, including the prequel manga that this game tries to *act* like is supposed to be canon.
It also contradicts itself. Other M makes it clear Samus uses "concentration" to keep her suit online, and when she's under mental stress and cannot focus on maintaining it, it's easily dispatched (as in her fight against Ridley and her getting shot in the back by Adam). Problem is, both in Fusion and Other M, Samus was unconscious when the GF scientists were wiping out dead tissues on her armor that they used for cloning the creatures in the BOTTLE Ship and her surgery to remove the Power Suit when she got infected by the X-Parasites. Other M cannot happen by its very own canon!
The quality of the writing in this game makes it always unclear whether Samus is stupid or just really socially awkward. Case in point, when she sees James being suspicious, she never says anything, or does anything about it. James says, "Hey Samus!" in a nervous fashion, and she says nothing. Technically, Adam should have seen this too. Is he also stupid? It's one thing to nitpick plotholes, it's another thing to have plot holes obscure the motivations of the characters and result in the characters being less realistic or relatable.

I would say Team Ninja is innocent in all this. They offered suggestions like using both Wiimote and nunchuck combined instead of just the Wiimote but Yoshio Sakamoto shot those down. The only things that could be blamed on them is how the game looks which is surprisingly good for a Wii game. Team Ninja never made a Metroid game and relied completely on Sakamoto to fill in the blanks. Yes, the very same Sakamoto that was there since the beginning. _Other M_ was apparently his vision the entire time. People can say what they want about _Fusion_ but I can only imagine how bad that game would have been if the team from Nintendo was not there to hold back Sakamoto's _"creativity"._

Oh my god I had forgotten how awful the voice acting is in this game. It is physically painful to listen to. And all because Sakamoto insisted on doing the voice actor direction for the game when he didn't speak any English.
There seems to be a reason you never played one. For me it was just being not interested, and I'm still not. Tested 2D and Prime games several times but literally fell asleep out of total boredom while playing. Never happened before... :|
I understand people have opinions, but what kind of games would you consider not boring?... Because Metroid is the most action packed Nintendo's franchise, except Smash Bros and Mario Kart maybe. Actually it's the only Nintendo franchise I can still play even after playng a lot of some technical marvels like Battlefront and Uncharted 4.
I usually disagree with most sins in those videos but this one was on point. Rewatching those scenes made me remember how bad Samus and the game itself were portrayed. The baby sin counter at the end was hilarious btw.

Someone with video editing skills should play through this game and edit the footage to: - Remove all of Samus's speech. - Cut conversations to be one sided without Samus talking. - Whenever a weapon is "authorised" or she is "given an order", just have them say 'Samus' and she uses the weapon for the job. Or just remove their speech entirely. - Change boss battle music. - Remove all mentions of 'Princess'. - Remove industrial """""flashback""""" - Remove melodrama flashbacks. - Remove her PTSD over Ridley. - Remove most of Adam's sacrifice scene. - Remove the woman scientists (And Samus's) unnecessary explanations. The plot is shaky and gameplay is alright, but the game would be wonderful without these things simply because the creator of this game doesn't know how to handle characters.
Look at the male gaze way that Samus is shot in this game’s cutscenes compared to the incredible hero badass way that she’s shot with Metroid Dread’s cutscenes. Very telling also Metroid Dread knows that you don’t need tons of dialogue to tell a nuanced and emotional story.
Actually, I don't mind the idea that she isn't okay with genetic tampering. It's like Black Widow origin, the training she was forced to go through made her strong and she knows it, but she still isn't okay with it. I think Samus being upset about genetic tampering is fine, and actually kinda makes sense. One of the only few things this game actually deserves some praise for.
Samus's Armor being powered by her focusing on it to manifest and Samus having to concentrate to keep it on! This is the dumbest thing I have ever heard of, i'm adding 50 sins. That PTSD scene with Ridley and Anthony having to save Samus for Samus being a Damsel in Distress, which she is the exact opposite of, i'm adding 75 sins! I have been playing the Metroid series for over a decade and this game is a pathetic sham along with being a downright cruel slap in the face of all hardcore Metroid fans gamers or not! Actually, YamiYugi14, the Chozo made it so Samus could literally will her Power Suit anytime and anywhere. So that's Magick right there. Magick is real in the Metroid Universe and that's something alot of people just can't reconcile for some weird reason. I love Samus Aran being a BA highly powered bounty hunter doing her thing and her thing only, screw everyone else type of thing. I have a feeling that during the production of _Other M,_ Sakamoto held an internal hatred for the first three games and the _Prime_ trilogy which I find funny because I also have a feeling that while he was making _Super Metroid,_ Sakamoto hated the first two games. Sakamoto is like George Lucas in his later years but several times worse.

In the end, even if you thought the prequels were bad, they at least weren’t as bad as The Last Jedi. I think The Last Jedi is more suitable for comparison to Other M.

Never have Samus talk or Rarely 2.Say that the weapons systems were Non-Functional and they were repairing themselves over time. 3.Make the bottleship more expansive give it another extra levels. 4.DONT CONTRADICT THE ORIGINALS. 5.Have Samus get stuff from enemies as like the Original Games. 6.Have the squad continue the plot Samus watching from the sidelines. 7.The Nemesis gets like only 3 Boss fights 8.Better boss design 9.Dont make Samus a suck up 10. Better Plot objectives 11. No Samus PTSD 12.Make the plot sound a lot yes idiotic 13.Have the things to re-activate Samuses Stuff around the Maps 14.Make it less linear 15.Giving MB a failsafe/Killswitch 16.MB becoming a weird Giant Mother Brain form/Human 17.HAVE SAMUS DO IMPORTANT STUFF. 18. Have Adam die from the Mother Brain mutant.
Also Ridley's cop-out death sort-of makes sense. Since the queen metroid sucked him dry there's now a husk to be frozen in BSL in the next game...one of the few glimmers of decent continuity in this pile of shit.

thats on voice direction, the voice director for the english and japanese versions were the same, in japan, a character who shows no emotion is seen as stoic and mysterious, but the voice director didnt know that here in the west that comes of as artificial and de-humanizing. when given the chance to shine, Samus' Voice Actress did a bang-up job.
I don't get it. i've scrolled down over the comment section and most of the posts relate either to how poorly Samus' character has been portrayed by it's detractors, or how cognitively deficient the fanbase is to not understand said portrayal by it's supporters. But i see almost no putting a comment on the gameplay. Ironically, the close-quarter-combat technique of Samus both make sense and are not bad ; it offers great mobility and getting on top of those big creatures to blast them out first hand is oddly satisfying. The problem is that it has been done at the expense of range combat : shooting missiles or using the grapple beam requires her to be stationnary, which completely clash with the fast paced aspect of her close-combat abilities. Additionnaly, they are multiple instances where the core of the "Metroid" series Gameplay, which is the collecting part and improving the suit's abilities, doesn't have any cohesivness or rationnal and, sometimes, flat out contradictory with the rest of the game. For example, Samus do not have the right to use her power bomb until the end of the game. Though, in it's practical standpoint, Adam *did* raised the point about the dangerosity of said bombs during the first briefing of the game, he did not make mention of any reason why she shouldn't use them ; he made no allusion to potential civilians that could still be on the station, or when his men are near her location, which could justify the complete prevention of usage. Nothing at all. Furthermore, every time Samus "got access" to another part of her gear, a very small menu transition happened in which was diplayed the name of said gear and "how to use it". But there was no such thing in regard of the Power Bomb - you just had to guess it in a situation where the game litteraly was sucking the life outta you. Which *IS* a failure of game design. Another example is the infamous fight with the sentry drones which, upon desruction of the last one, drop the one and only truly obtainable gear in the classic Metroid sense of the term, in the whole game, as it immediatly stuck upon and improve Samus's beam power upon collection... without any dialogue from either Samus or Adam saying anythign about it. Nothing. At. All. Litteraly, Samus collected a beam uppgrade and immediatly made use of it, without Adam saying anything or herself waiting his permission whatsoever - which completely undermine the whole arsenal/censorship relation between Adam and Samus, which is (supposedly) at the core of the story.) And of course, the most infamous example being how Adam's restrictions over Samus's suit capabilities extend to even non-lethal armement, like the Varia and Gravity suit or the Grapple Beam. Without any explanation whatsoever... Imagine a general of reknown gaining exclusive command of a soldier the equivalent of Rambo on the battlefield. The general sent his soldier on the front line with barely a shirt on him, his kevlar vest hanging in his bag and, only once he took one too many bullets, the general authorize the vet to wear his kevlar suit. Can you picture any army of any country, in the whole world, doing that to it's soldiers, excepted out of pure spite ?
The biggest problem I had with this game is that Samus doesn't cap baby Ridley the moment she saw him. Samus has a long history of killing random wildlife just because she feels like it, and is responsible for the extinction of at least two species.

I've never played a Metroid game. I only know Samus trough Super Smash Bros. And this does NOT make it like a series worthy playing. Also, what the BLOODY HELL is that authorization thing? It's as bad as having Navi telling Link he can use his bombs for five minutes or that his bow and arrows are authorized to shoot an eye on the wall.
Well, it's an utterly irritating one. Why give the player all their utilities and weapons from the beginning but restrain their use until some 'former' commander feels like allowing us to use them? Besides, from what I heard, Metroid is about exploring and finding the power-ups yourself, so doesn't that mechanic defeat that gameplay mechanic that is the reason the game is good in the first place?

I could have written a better story, and thought of better game design than this shit. And i almost failed english class twice! Ok, here goes for the intro: Samus is contracted over comms to go to a rendevous point, she only goes along with it because the reward is 10 million credits. After finding out she has to deal with a squad she becomes irritated, and snyde. Half of the squad is intimidated, half is disrespectful because they don't realize she's THAT samus aran. After landing a power fluctuation at a security gate shreds a lot of capacitors for samus's suit, making her limited to her basic kit until she can get enough capacitors by exploring and story progression to unlock her weapons again. Boom! 130% better

A few tweaks and it would have been perfect. The problem is the ridiculous story. Other M was the first Metroid Game I had ever played, so during my first playthrough, it didn't bother me much. I didn't understand how much they BUTCHERED her character. But after playing Super Metroid and Metroid Fusion... Yeah, I completely understand where the hate for this game comes from. But that new personality was actually so bland and uninteresting that even the little things we could deduce out of her actions and the few lines of dialogue she says in Metroid Fusion create a more interesting and coherent character than this one.
I was talking about the actions she does in the entire series. Initially going down to Tallon IV for the sole reason of hunting down Ridley in Prime 1, Her body language in the Prime series, sparing the last Metroid in Metroid II, her persuading Adam to betray the Federation and destroying the BSL in Fusion. These are just a few examples of Samus being much more than a "badass because reasons", but an actual character that does indeed fit to someone who would do badass things.

My one problem with this game is this: Samus is a BOUNTY HUNTER, as in a space mercenary for hire! Why the hell does she have to follow orders!? Adam didn't even establish a payment plan for her services, she's basically doing this mission for free. i'm not kidding, does she even get paid after this mission?

There is a valid logic for someone operating in a Galactic Federation facility having to follow orders from GF military officers, it's GF property and if the GF marines are looking for survivors it would make sense to place some sensible limitations on the independent operative such that the risk of said operative killing survivors by accident through liberal use of their most powerful weapons. HOWEVER, as everyone is aware the limitations placed upon Samus are far from sensible and both Adam's refusal to allow her to use basic equipment when she needs it (e.g. Hell Run) and Samus' refusal to activate plainly necessary gear is are ridiculous beyond measure and show the "father/daughter" relationship between them to be decidedly one-sided and extremely unhealthy; while she idolises him (because reasons) he seems to treat her mostly with contempt and disregard.

But I think that's the problem. Samus isn't "human". She was raised by an ex-warrior race who taught her their old warrior ways. Even among humans, you can take a grown man, send him to the military to essentially become a modern warrior (soldier) and break him down to the point that he loses his humanity and comes back with PTSD after the stuff they commit due to being able to act based on their training.
The Chozo didn't need to break Samus. She was just a child. All they really had to do was mold her into a warrior. And even then, I don't think they raised her to be a monster. She was raised by the now peaceful Chozo.
But she was still raised to be a warrior. That's why so many people were upset when she freaked out when she encounters Ridley in this game. Up to this point, we all kinda assumed she was hard enough to be able to face this childhood trauma and not flinch due to context clues and lore.
Samus may be human, but she was raised as a child by something that wasn't. Kinda like those stories of children raised by wolves and then they're all animalistic, Samus was raised by a warrior race to be a warrior. She is still going to have emotions, but if humans can train other humans to suppress those emotions, imagine what an alien race could accomplish with a child.

People forget that in flashbacks, Samus is a teenager and not fully grown yet compared to Other M where she's in her mid-late 20s.
Several years make a big difference. Plus, in the later scenes, she's kinda hunched over and not standing a full height, suit or no suit. She's usually bending her legs, leaning forward. Usually a tactic for those that face combat in order to move more quickly. In that later scene, she's still recovering from Adam shooting at her, and isn't standing tall because she's regaining her bearings.

Adam would never earn Samus' respect by the way he behaves in the game. It was simply a dumb way to prevent Samus from using her full arsenal for gameplay mechanics. The devs thought that orders from Adam were a good reason because "the lore established that Samus respects Adam", not that Adam EARNED Samus' respect. It's bad writing and lazy game developing.

She did have PTSD, but if you read the manga, she clearly deals with it in the form of anger, not fear. At this point in the timeline she has no reason to cry at the sight of Ridley.
Besides, you may think she I a Mary Sue because she never had an overdone emotional struggle, but that's because we have only ever really seen her doing her job, which she is amazing at as we all know. But what about socializing? It's pretty obvious that Samus has a very limited grasp on the concept of friendship, and would probably react poorly in any social situation. What about arts, music, any other skill. A Mary Sue is a character who is perfect at everything he/she does. The only thing we know Samus is good at is being a bounty hunter. What about during her downtime? She could very well be struggling and we just never get to see it. We don't know what else she is and isn't good at for the most part, but we all know that she is inexperienced at being a PERSON. That is probably one of the main reasons she really left the federation. She couldn't stand being around people, because she can't understand them or relate to them.

One of the worst parts is that the story of this game acts contradictory to almost every part of Metroids canon, including the prequel manga that this game tries to *act* like is supposed to be canon.
It also contradicts itself.
Other M makes it clear Samus uses "concentration" to keep her suit online, and when she's under mental stress and cannot focus on maintaining it, it's easily dispatched (as in her fight against Ridley and her getting shot in the back by Adam). Problem is, both in Fusion and Other M, Samus was unconscious when the GF scientists were wiping out dead tissues on her armor that they used for cloning the creatures in the BOTTLE Ship and her surgery to remove the Power Suit when she got infected by the X-Parasites.
Other M cannot happen by its very own canon!
The quality of the writing in this game makes it always unclear whether Samus is stupid or just really socially awkward. Case in point, when she sees James being suspicious, she never says anything, or does anything about it. James says, "Hey Samus!" in a nervous fashion, and she says nothing. Technically, Adam should have seen this too. Is he also stupid?
It's one thing to nitpick plotholes, it's another thing to have plot holes obscure the motivations of the characters and result in the characters being less realistic or relatable.

I would say Team Ninja is innocent in all this. They offered suggestions like using both Wiimote and nunchuck combined instead of just the Wiimote but Yoshio Sakamoto shot those down. The only things that could be blamed on them is how the game looks which is surprisingly good for a Wii game.
Team Ninja never made a Metroid game and relied completely on Sakamoto to fill in the blanks. Yes, the very same Sakamoto that was there since the beginning. _Other M_ was apparently his vision the entire time. People can say what they want about _Fusion_ but I can only imagine how bad that game would have been if the team from Nintendo was not there to hold back Sakamoto's _"creativity"._

Someone with video editing skills should play through this game and edit the footage to:
- Remove all of Samus's speech.
- Cut conversations to be one sided without Samus talking.
- Whenever a weapon is "authorised" or she is "given an order", just have them say 'Samus' and she uses the weapon for the job. Or just remove their speech entirely.
- Change boss battle music.
- Remove all mentions of 'Princess'.
- Remove industrial """""flashback"""""
- Remove melodrama flashbacks.
- Remove her PTSD over Ridley.
- Remove most of Adam's sacrifice scene.
- Remove the woman scientists (And Samus's) unnecessary explanations.
The plot is shaky and gameplay is alright, but the game would be wonderful without these things simply because the creator of this game doesn't know how to handle characters.
Look at the male gaze way that Samus is shot in this game’s cutscenes compared to the incredible hero badass way that she’s shot with Metroid Dread’s cutscenes. Very telling also Metroid Dread knows that you don’t need tons of dialogue to tell a nuanced and emotional story.
And her speaking moment in Dread is way much better than the entirety of Other M.
I love how Adam authorizes the suit while Samus is NEXT TO MOLTEN ROCKS and has been for ages. Guy's a tactical genius.

Actually, I don't mind the idea that she isn't okay with genetic tampering. It's like Black Widow origin, the training she was forced to go through made her strong and she knows it, but she still isn't okay with it. I think Samus being upset about genetic tampering is fine, and actually kinda makes sense. One of the only few things this game actually deserves some praise for.

Samus's Armor being powered by her focusing on it to manifest and Samus having to concentrate to keep it on! This is the dumbest thing I have ever heard of, i'm adding 50 sins. That PTSD scene with Ridley and Anthony having to save Samus for Samus being a Damsel in Distress, which she is the exact opposite of, i'm adding 75 sins!
I have been playing the Metroid series for over a decade and this game is a pathetic sham along with being a downright cruel slap in the face of all hardcore Metroid fans gamers or not! Actually, YamiYugi14, the Chozo made it so Samus could literally will her Power Suit anytime and anywhere. So that's Magick right there. Magick is real in the Metroid Universe and that's something alot of people just can't reconcile for some weird reason.

I have a feeling that during the production of _Other M,_ Sakamoto held an internal hatred for the first three games and the _Prime_ trilogy which I find funny because I also have a feeling that while he was making _Super Metroid,_ Sakamoto hated the first two games.

thats on voice direction, the voice director for the english and japanese versions were the same, in japan, a character who shows no emotion is seen as stoic and mysterious, but the voice director didnt know that here in the west that comes of as artificial and de-humanizing. when given the chance to shine, Samus' Voice Actress did a bang-up job.

I don't get it. i've scrolled down over the comment section and most of the posts relate either to how poorly Samus' character has been portrayed by it's detractors, or how cognitively deficient the fanbase is to not understand said portrayal by it's supporters. But i see almost no putting a comment on the gameplay.
Ironically, the close-quarter-combat technique of Samus both make sense and are not bad ; it offers great mobility and getting on top of those big creatures to blast them out first hand is oddly satisfying. The problem is that it has been done at the expense of range combat : shooting missiles or using the grapple beam requires her to be stationnary, which completely clash with the fast paced aspect of her close-combat abilities. Additionnaly, they are multiple instances where the core of the "Metroid" series Gameplay, which is the collecting part and improving the suit's abilities, doesn't have any cohesivness or rationnal and, sometimes, flat out contradictory with the rest of the game.
For example, Samus do not have the right to use her power bomb until the end of the game. Though, in it's practical standpoint, Adam *did* raised the point about the dangerosity of said bombs during the first briefing of the game, he did not make mention of any reason why she shouldn't use them ; he made no allusion to potential civilians that could still be on the station, or when his men are near her location, which could justify the complete prevention of usage. Nothing at all. Furthermore, every time Samus "got access" to another part of her gear, a very small menu transition happened in which was diplayed the name of said gear and "how to use it". But there was no such thing in regard of the Power Bomb - you just had to guess it in a situation where the game litteraly was sucking the life outta you. Which *IS* a failure of game design.
Another example is the infamous fight with the sentry drones which, upon desruction of the last one, drop the one and only truly obtainable gear in the classic Metroid sense of the term, in the whole game, as it immediatly stuck upon and improve Samus's beam power upon collection... without any dialogue from either Samus or Adam saying anythign about it. Nothing. At. All. Litteraly, Samus collected a beam uppgrade and immediatly made use of it, without Adam saying anything or herself waiting his permission whatsoever - which completely undermine the whole arsenal/censorship relation between Adam and Samus, which is (supposedly) at the core of the story.)
And of course, the most infamous example being how Adam's restrictions over Samus's suit capabilities extend to even non-lethal armement, like the Varia and Gravity suit or the Grapple Beam. Without any explanation whatsoever...
Imagine a general of reknown gaining exclusive command of a soldier the equivalent of Rambo on the battlefield. The general sent his soldier on the front line with barely a shirt on him, his kevlar vest hanging in his bag and, only once he took one too many bullets, the general authorize the vet to wear his kevlar suit. Can you picture any army of any country, in the whole world, doing that to it's soldiers, excepted out of pure spite ?
The biggest problem I had with this game is that Samus doesn't cap baby Ridley the moment she saw him. Samus has a long history of killing random wildlife just because she feels like it, and is responsible for the extinction of at least two species.
Please don't do this to prime 4 Nintendo, this game is disgusting

Well, it's an utterly irritating one. Why give the player all their utilities and weapons from the beginning but restrain their use until some 'former' commander feels like allowing us to use them? Besides, from what I heard, Metroid is about exploring and finding the power-ups yourself, so doesn't that mechanic defeat that gameplay mechanic that is the reason the game is good in the first place?
+GT M they do that in every prime game. its about showing the player the potential they have if they work hard through the game. in prime 1 you have some abilities and then they take them away via explosion.

Samus is contracted over comms to go to a rendevous point, she only goes along with it because the reward is 10 million credits.
After finding out she has to deal with a squad she becomes irritated, and snyde. Half of the squad is intimidated, half is disrespectful because they don't realize she's THAT samus aran.
After landing a power fluctuation at a security gate shreds a lot of capacitors for samus's suit, making her limited to her basic kit until she can get enough capacitors by exploring and story progression to unlock her weapons again.
Boom! 130% better

I didn't understand how much they BUTCHERED her character. But after playing Super Metroid and Metroid Fusion... Yeah, I completely understand where the hate for this game comes from. I was talking about the actions she does in the entire series.
Initially going down to Tallon IV for the sole reason of hunting down Ridley in Prime 1, Her body language in the Prime series, sparing the last Metroid in Metroid II, her persuading Adam to betray the Federation and destroying the BSL in Fusion.
These are just a few examples of Samus being much more than a "badass because reasons", but an actual character that does indeed fit to someone who would do badass things.
So is it bad then if I genuinely enjoyed other m?
