I am a professional 3D animator that has been animating for over 12 years. I'm making a 10 minute animated short film with a team to help out, and even THAT feels like an insane undertaking that will likely take me a couple of years of intense work. You're a madman, and I'm rooting for you.
@@aprizuniverse I cannot speak for animation or movies, but I can say that when you first start anything, you will suck. There is no getting around it. I know you probably weren't expecting an essay on your random TH-cam comment, but either way, have a nice day and I hope you figure it out.
the thing is, there are a lot of 3d animated films out there that have been criticized for being quick and cheap. but those are made by like, teams of people, specifically for turning out more money than they put in. you're one guy with a mocap suit and a dream. considering how you approached the book release, i know you're not really in it for money, so "cheap" turns from an insult into just practical usage of finite resources. this project is the definition of the accessibility that animation has been working towards for years. in my eyes you're already blowing it out of the water.
Quick and cheap don't necessarily make a thing bad. It is just that those qualities often accompany works generally considered bad art. Although how one can even define "bad" is a mystery to me. I prefer to scale things on how much I like them and leave it at that.
no, not at all. there are cheap movies out there that are really well made with little to no budget. barber winchester was made a small team and was shadow dropped on youtube with only 61k views, still a very well made, polished and underrated movie shrek retold currently has 10 million views on youtube, it had no budget you dont need money to make something good nowadays, you can find all sorts of art programs for free that get the job more than done. this movie is a bad example with what you can do these days with the tools we have

It's been so much fun to watch this go from a throwaway idea you had about using public domain superheroes in a purely hypothetical sense to an actual series of projects with way more passion behind them than anyone would expect.
I’m not an expert on this topic and I know it’s unfinished, but I think one of the most important things to focus on with the animation is the lighting. I’ve played video games that have great 3D models but the lighting is bad so they don’t look good, and there’s some other games where the models are just okay but the lighting manages to make them look pretty good. I’m excited to see how this turns out, though. Your project is really ambitious and cool.
The problem with video games is that the lighting has to be done in real time. With a movie, it can render whatever fancy effects for as long as it needs to.
I love this in-progess update, and really appreciate how you're modeling skill-building and trying new things! I'm a young jack-of-all-trades creative intimidated by my own breadth of interests, so I find you and your work really encouraging. Can't wait to see Atlas next year!

For non-movie fans: Did you know that 1 page of script is 1 minute of film? So, when Austin mentions he got 100 pages of script, that means that he basically wrote a 1 hour movie.
Something about the faces maybe just the lighting, neck movement, or the smooth texture gives me weird vibes but the stone atlas looks really good and I hope everything is given an equal attention to quality, give this movie enough time to cook and I think it can be great, same with catman
Tbh I think the free assets honestly add to the cheap feeling you're going for! I think from an artistic point of view it makes the most sense! Just make sure that the general style of models fall within a similar feel n look!

This may be the most ambitious "one man" (or at least "one vision") and artful low budget cgi movie ever made. I am very surprised you committed to this so fully and put so much of yourself into it. I can't imagine the amount of frustration... I am so done with superheroes, but knowing the backstory, I can't wait to see this. Not because of Atlas, but because this is a legacy of a man's journey...a hero named Austin, who puts heart into everything he does
My respect for animators and artists of all kinds is already way up there. And seeing one person accomplishing all this, while battling a serious medical condition, is genuinely so amazing. I wish you luck, Austin. See you in 2024.

From what we see of the movie here, I can tell I am going to love the performance of Atlas (the god, not Jim). He says all his lines in an over the top way that is just so endearing. Just the way he says "evil" is awesome.
loves this kind of videos fill with passion and not motivated by money. it reminds me of your the first vid i watched from you "i made a movie. it stunk." that one of the few vids that have made me cry. need to rewatch it sometime.
Looks pretty cool. I like what i know of story and voice acting. But the animation kinda looks like a slightly better version of food fights animation. I'm glad to know any issues will be lessered or even straught up removed in the final film. And you are amazing for tackling all of this while dealing with hart failure. And the bits of Catman show ive seen from the pilot and animation shown at the end of this video looks great.
Austin, this is amazing since you came up with this idea. This is true inspiration. You have inspired me to try things that I would enjoy doing, but I thought it was out of reach. I'm along for the ride. I can't wait to see this all come together.
I remember finding out about your channel around the time you talked about public domain characters. And seeing how that spark ignited this project, everything you've done and learned across the way makes me happy and, may I say, proud. Can't wait!
While I myself am not in a position to offer any monetary aide, I want you to know that I am offering all of the moral support that I can and I love everything about the Superzeros universe. You are doing everything that I wish I could and I highly encourage you to keep going. I admire your commitment and passion for creating and making something that you can be proud of. Keep up the good work Austin.
This is looking incredible! You are *you* and that's why I follow this channel! I've been following you for years and years now, so I really cannot wait to see what you've created. Everything you do has that touch of magic that's missing in the world right now. Keep it up - for as long as you wish and can, of course! :)
In this video, you said that you constantly had comments saying "why" ... so I would personally like to say "Thank you." Thank you for making this wonderful film, one that you put your heart and soul into... and for doing something that not everyone will see, but will be seen by a number of people who will truly enjoy what you're making, and I hope that you do get some recognition off of this movie, at least in some form or another.
I find this video oddly inspiring. Seeing you go through all of this effort for a crazy passion project gives me motivation to work on my crazy passion projects. Maybe, enough motivation to overcome my strict schedule and abysmal sleep quality and actually make something worth while. You have a rare dedication to the craft.
This is an amazing undertaking and I'm much impressed. As a small aside - the Greek god Atlas in that story sounds like historic celebrity body-builder Charles Atlas (who for many of us is just a line in a Rocky Horror song).
Austin, ignore those people who ask why, if they can't see the joy that you have doing it they aren't looking hard enough. Keep learning, growing, and doing new things, enjoy the journey.
This was really encouraging, I am wanting to get into digital art again, and I am saving up to get the pc, with the equipment and get back into digital art. Years ago I tried it out and got stuck, and gave up on it, but ever since I have been wanting to get back into 3D all over again. So this was very encouraging, and it's always said to do what you love to do, and I love everything about art doesn't matter traditional to digital! SO I am going to do everything I can to get into 3D, digital art in general, and just follow my passion! Thanks for this!
In 5 years I will look back and appreciate watching this video as a crucial turning point in my personal journey. Thank you Austin, for your work and your inspiration.
Your efforts and creations are just as valid as Batman and other major properties. It must be remembered that those things started off as small things that few people cared about. It was quality, and honestly, luck, that allowed them to become the behemoths that they are today. Maybe your stuff will become giants, or be forgotten. Either way, you cannot be faulted for doing cool stuff for yourself.
The weirdest thing about the Atlas plot is how doing constant exercise on a ranch in Arizona somehow fixes Jim's eyesight problems to the extent that he no longer needs glasses.
Hats off to all the effort you are putting in. I am not a superhero fan, but the stuff you are putting out is very good and has lots of charm. It is not my cup of tea, but watching you have fun making these projects is a true blast. All the best!
Austin you are an inspiration. Also: please keep an eye on your health. Working the way you do is a lot of fun, but your superpowers do not extend into your physical self. Thanks for sharing your passion and your workflow with us.
I love what you're doing here with Atlas! Your creative pursuits have been so inspiring and relatable to me over the years since I started watching, nice to see that going strong.
You know, Hercules could always be a guy he fights at one point in the future. Hercules and Atlas tricked each other over who would hold up the heavens when Hercules was doing the 12 labors.
Thank you for all you do Austin! You're the most inspiring creator on this website! And don't stress about taking extra time for the Atlast movie, it's a gosh-darn animated movie! They usually take years to make with hundreds of people working on a team together!
A single person is releasing a feature length film. If Austin could do it, you can too. That's what this means. Go, make! Free from corporate oversight, go make something! Invite a friend! Invite a fellow creative! Learn together!!! Make together!! Love art together!!!
I'm so glad that through all the stress and imperfections, you're learning new skills and having a fun experience telling stories. Keep it up, man. I'm rooting for ya.
"Adapting a short text into a feature length movie takes some doing." Yup, but as we all learned from the Hobbit movies, the only thing stopping you from stretching any source material beyond belief is your own determination. ;)

public domain assets are fine to use especially if you can them fit the style of what your doing, keep up the work and its awesome to see you grow in skill and work with so many people
From what we see of the movie here, I can tell I am going to love the performance of Atlas (the god, not Jim). He says all his lines in an over the top way that is just so endearing. Just the way he says "evil" is awesome.
Man, this is a huge effort! I love animation and yet this large of a project intimidates me to my core. I can't wait to see the final product!
Thanks for checking it out! If you want to be one of the first to see it, consider checking out the Kickstarter in the description.
@@austinmcconnellwhen are we getting the trailer?
Dude the amount of effort you’re putting in is amazing! I’m very excited for this and I’m proud of everything you’ve done ❤
loves this kind of videos fill with passion and not motivated by money. it reminds me of your the first vid i watched from you "i made a movie. it stunk." that one of the few vids that have made me cry. need to rewatch it sometime.
as an aspiring animator, you have opened my eyes to just how grand the process of telling the story you want to tell, so amazing!!
12:29 That move was clean
Awesome! Glad to hear that it's been an encouragement.
10:09 damn….THATS A GREAT PHILOSOPHY 🎉😂
but in all seriousness, this is a great video. The entire process sounds exhausting yet inspiring
8:15 Aww, that's DOPE! Royalty Free 3D environments.
Austin is the kind of creative you just let do w/e they want. He's earned that.
Make the post credit scene cat man telling atlas: "I’m putting together a team, you’d be great."
Dude, you are a hero, keep fighting through your recovery!
I’ve really enjoyed your journey with these superheroes and the public domain saga on this channel!
I remember finding out about your channel around the time you talked about public domain characters.
And seeing how that spark ignited this project, everything you've done and learned across the way makes me happy and, may I say, proud.
Can't wait!
*Remember!* The $100k stretch goal is a full animated series. If it reaches $50k, you can still help.
Im planning on making my own movie and this whole project is some big inspiration. Curious to see where this goes.
I honestly hope this new Project ACTUALLY gets some eyes on it. When it comes out. You deserve the recognition👍🏾
This is looking incredible! You are *you* and that's why I follow this channel! I've been following you for years and years now, so I really cannot wait to see what you've created. Everything you do has that touch of magic that's missing in the world right now. Keep it up - for as long as you wish and can, of course! :)
Aw, thanks. This comment made my day.
It seems you really have nailed the “mid-2000’s Barbie movie” style. In the best way possible!
ngl, totally flattered that my character is featured right at the front of "The Players" section even though this production is STACKED with talent.
Excited to see how this is shaping up, I got in on the kickstarter so it's great to see it happening
I've been looking forward to seeing this! I feel your pain in getting this completed. Keep at it!
@CodyVibbart I am still sharing your movie with new people. Can't wait for part 2. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
@@massagebyconstance5665 Same!! My dad and I had a blast watching it together.
The weirdest thing about the Atlas plot is how doing constant exercise on a ranch in Arizona somehow fixes Jim's eyesight problems to the extent that he no longer needs glasses.
It's really cool to watch a movie be assembled from the ground up.
i've loved seeing you realize your dreams austin.thank you for bringing us along for the ride. merry christmas
The "I'm not wearing my glasses" joke is pretty good, not gonna lie.
I love this, can’t WAIT for more, hope this is successful enough for you to keep going.
You know, Hercules could always be a guy he fights at one point in the future. Hercules and Atlas tricked each other over who would hold up the heavens when Hercules was doing the 12 labors.
finally someone who uses the correct version of the name!
@@Planet.Xplor3r
I have edited it to Hercules because I will find your suffering funny.
😭@@CamelotGaming
ok, added my kickstarter pledge. This whole superzeros idea is ridiculous, and I love it - let's gooooo!
Austin: Why not?
Congratulations! This is a huge accomplishment.
As a 3d animator I understand why you got the assets lol😂
If you’re worried about how your storyboards look, you should see the storyboards for Knives Out 😂
Thank you for all you do Austin! You're the most inspiring creator on this website! And don't stress about taking extra time for the Atlast movie, it's a gosh-darn animated movie! They usually take years to make with hundreds of people working on a team together!
The amount of effort you're putting into all of this is incredible honestly. Im greatly looking forward to the full release.
A single person is releasing a feature length film.
If Austin could do it, you can too. That's what this means. Go, make! Free from corporate oversight, go make something! Invite a friend! Invite a fellow creative! Learn together!!! Make together!! Love art together!!!
I’ve been popping in here n there too see updates and I’m excited too see all your hard work in its final form!
I'm so glad that through all the stress and imperfections, you're learning new skills and having a fun experience telling stories. Keep it up, man. I'm rooting for ya.
"Adapting a short text into a feature length movie takes some doing."
Yup, but as we all learned from the Hobbit movies, the only thing stopping you from stretching any source material beyond belief is your own determination. ;)
to be honest. this is far better than any bargain bin.. quality is way too good.
Keep up the great work Austin! Can't wait to see the movie!
