I don't think I've ever spent more than $50 on a pair of jeans hehe... I think it would've been more interesting if your husband purchased the jeans and covered the labels... and you ranked them without knowing the cost..a blind test in a way...I think sometimes we're biased because more expensive things are SUPPOSED to be better... but I get that more expense usually means better quality

As a guy, I honestly can't see myself ever paying more than 40$ for a pair of jeans, and where I live the price for clothes are 25% taxes. 25$ at H&M gave me good quality skinny jeans when they were on sale (and there are some jeans on sale nearly all the time), much better than the first pair she tried.

The biggest problem with women’s clothes is that sizing is not uniform over brands.... it’s a problem because we can’t trust sizing, not even within the same brand :(
I wish someone would work on making a women’s sizing system that every brand could use, and that would work with measurements instead of numbers...

    • @susanholl5994

      Sabina Hertzum
Agree! You have to judge each pair of jeans on whether they are true fit to their published size charts.

    • @17RoseAngel
      @17RoseAngel 6 ปีที่แล้ว +14

Sabina Hertzum I agree. I think women's sizing could go to how men's are with the number for waist in inches and length.

Unfortunately the type of material the jeans are made from would also make it hard to say "universal" chart because any jeans for me that are 100% cotton I take a size 10 (30) but any jeggings or jeans with less than 75% cotton I wear an 8 (29)....

When you are younger you can get away with cheaper jeans but in more mature years expensive jeans really make a huge difference in comfort, wearability, and looks! I've had my $200 J jeans for 5 years and they still feel and look great!

I'm getting some comments regarding my sizing choice (that I'm wearing too small of a size jeans for H&M): I have to be fair to all brands and follow the size they recommend and let their product speak for it self. I based my measurements (waist and hips) on standard ASTM sizing chart for body measurements, which are actually reflected in Nordstrom, H&M, and Dillards (Vince Camuto run bigger, which is the reason they were slightly loose on me). I am wearing exactly the size the stores recommend. Hence, if something doesn't fit, that means it's a quality issue, which is the point I'm supposed to show as part of a review (it shows who follows the standards and who does not). I hope that clarifies any confusion there might be about my choice of sizing.
SO many of are giving some really great recommendations. I can't wait to try some of these jeans out! Thank you

Milabu It's also important that people remember you're trying on new jeans. Almost all jeans, especially designer jeans will stretch out with wear. I used to work in a boutique and we had clients buy them skin tight bc they will stretch. Whenever girls didn't heed our advice and sized up, they often came back upset bc the jeans were quite loose after wearing for a couple hours.

That’s right ! Measurements and sizes are different in some brands of jeans. In some of them I’m 28 and in others I’m 30. I have this pair of jeans that I hate jajaja because they squeeze all my curves jajaja. Every time I go to buy jeans I jump, squat, walk in the changing room so I can test if it’s a great pair of jeans 😊

H&M has European sizes, so they run smaller than our vanity sizes in the US. For instance I'm usually a size 2 everywhere, but in H&M I'm a 4. And I agree with the other posters, don't take it personally but you might feel much better about the pairs you try if you try size 27. I know sometimes we get used to our size and don't want to go up a size cuz it doesn't feel good, but I think it would be more flattering on you and wouldn't "pop out everywhere" as you say, or feel too tight anywhere. Cuz believe it or not, those words are a sign of them being too small on you, they wouldn't bulge or pop out anywhere if they were the right size.

    • @lavacaqueri5454

Alli. I’m with you! I also like Marshall’s and TJ Max...when I want quality at lower prices. I have recently begin to buy jeans from a inexpensive chain store, but that is only because, they are distressed perfectly and secondly distressed jeans are trendy...so I would never spend a lot of money on trendy items. I do love finding designer jeans at the thrift store too!! I think had she not knew which pairs of jeans was which and went up a size in the cheaper jeans, review would have been completely different.

I wear those $10 H&M jeans every day and they look awesome, feel awesome, and hold up amazingly well. They have high elasticity after washing even once. I've been buying them since they came out a couple of years ago. I'm fine spending around $100 on jeans, but I haven't found any that I liked as much as those hilariously cheap ones.
You clearly need to buy a bigger size or maybe that specific cut doesn't work on you. Honestly, you needed to size up in almost every pair to avoid that sausage casing look and the rolled over creases under the butt in the back. You aren't fat in any way, so this isn't a criticism of your body. Buying clothes that don't fit just makes weird lumps/bulges/folds.
The number on the label doesn't matter. Your body is what matters. Buy clothes that fit your body.

My price range? Between $15 to $40 for Adriano Goldschmied, Paige, Frame (yes, in the $220 price range), 7 For All Mankind, Citizens of Humanity, True Religion and a couple of other expensive, great quality jeans. How? Ebay, Nordstrom Rack, Poshmark, consignment stores and thrift stores. My closet is full of the above brands and I've never paid more than $39, if I'm not mistaken. Not trying to brag; just want others to know that it's possible to get really great quality jeans at affordable prices.😉
AG and Paige are my favorite brands. They consistently fit well, hug my curves, have the right amount of give, etc. that I desire.

i work for an international denim brand, denim with polyester are pure hell in the summer time and have a tendency to make a crease in the wrong place under the butt specially if the pattern is not perfect and depends on the weaving method of the fabric if the polyester is towards the inside, that is when you feel the scratchy feeling inside and sweaty heat. in general, composition of 98cotton 2spandex in quality fabric works the best in terms of fit and durability, denim manufactured in Turquey are one of best quality fabrics and handfeel, for 60-70 usa $ you can start getting a decent pair. i wish you tried on for comparison a 100%cotton that are very trendy and due differences in sizes per brand, you cannot buy denim from shelf by size, also actually each pair is slightly different, so you can try same size 3 diff. pairs and each will look different and finally, because i can go like this for hours :), you have to put them on and move, sit and only after like 30 min you can really see what is going on. Love you, found your channel today!

I have to disagree with this, in my experience. I used to wear more expensive jeans because I am so tall, cheaper brands never made long enough jeans. But they all wore out and ripped and were so tight and uncomfortable. But nowadays, stores make a lot more sizes for tall and short people.

liked your video infact please do more, but with that being said I have to say that you can not expect all jeans to fit the same just because you are a size 26. every designer has their own pattern so if the cheep $9.99 jeans were too tight they may have worked if you moved up a size. same goes for the other ones you were happy with but a couple of things were off. get the next size up and save yourself some money.

They're navy blue (but not the classic dark denim look), super high-waisted, reeeeeally skinny and stretch enough for me to sit down comfortably but not enough that they lose their shape. I bought a pair of Citizens, for almost $200 CAD with tax about 12 years ago. They are 98% cotton and 2% elastane-- the denim was heavy and required to be broken in. They started out mid-blue. completely "clean" not distressed, no whiskers. They were always flattering, but I actually get more compliments on them now than when I first bought them! They've become a light-ish blue, but can still be dressed up or down. I can't wear them at the office anymore as they've only finally started to get a hole at the knee. (I'll probably patch them up and keep wearing them.) Also, I only have 1 pair of blue jeans, 1 white, and 1 black, and I wear jeans about 3 days out of the week.
I would say my break point is about $250 for blue and black jeans, but designer denim regularly goes on sale, so you can usually get a good deal. It's a slippery slope, once you go higher end, it's harder to compromise. My break point for white jeans, however, is about $70, just in case I have a really clumsy day... :)
I've just bought a pair of Levi's for $113 with tax. They are the same fabric composition as the my old Citizens, again, lovely heavy denim. My husband accused me of buying an iteration of the Citizens. We'll see if these last another 12 years!

I think another important factor to consider is durability, I used to only buy cheap jeans because I figured they were just as good as "fancy expensive ones". Unless you are incredibly small, your thighs will rub together as you walk and that leads to chafing and piling. So when I discovered the difference between $25 target jeans and $80 Levi's jeans (they often have discounts so it's closer to $60) it makes all the difference in how long my jeans last until they get holes. 1-3 pairs of quality jeans is something everyone should invest in, cause boy does it change how comfortable you are throughout your day and how often you have to buy new jeans. Money isn't really an excuse as you can buy gently used clothes from apps and thrift stores, instead of buying a $30 new pair of cheaper jeans you can easily find gently used jeans of a much better material and brand for near the same price range or sometimes less!
Granted a lot of time when you get in the higher end of brands (Like 200+ range) many items just have increased brand value and not significant differences. It's good to have label you trust, but don't pay ridiculous prices just to have a label.
k, sorry for the rant lol

Lol It's a lot harder to find just regular jeans. Hey how many of you remember THE JORDACHE LOOK? Z Cavs ?? Chic? GITANO? You can buy Jordache for $10 bucks now at KMART! I work in fashion, the 1st and last "expensive pair" probably has both mechanical stretch (engineered) from the polyester and the stretch from the elastane. But one thing I didn't know until recently, the % of elastane or spandex doesn't affect how stretchy it is. It's how the spandex/elastane is treated in the process of making the cloth. The fact that it's in there means it should stretch but the stretch % doesn't necessarily mean it will be more or less stretchy. Kinda cool to know.
It's cool to see someone compare these! Nice job! I wonder, did you keep or return any of them?

I don't have a limit, and the reason for that is that I have that "ideal" shape in a small size. In modern sizing, I usually fit a 2, though can get into a 0. My hips are 10" bigger, as is my bust. I have a very distinct hourglass shape (but no ass--go figure), and manufacturers tend to think anyone under about a 6 is going to be rod-straight. So it's very, very difficult to find jeans that fit me. Right now, the only brand I know of that fits me right is the skinny-legged jeans from White House, Black Market, and they're about $90. They fit well, can be worn for a couple weeks and retain good fit, and are very long-lasting. I usually buy one pair at at time, and wear them more than half the days, and a pair will easily go for a year or more. I wore a hole in my previous pair, put a cute floral patch on it, and a couple more for good measure, and they're freaking cute. I wear them for yard work or to go hiking. If I had to pay $200 for them, I would, and I know I am very lucky I could do that.
In defense of the fit of the H&M jeans, we've all got different shapes, and there's no way one pair will fit all of our shapes. The pair that fits you or me won't properly fit the person who the H&M jeans fit well.

Thanks for this ! I haven't purchased a $$ pair of jeans ever.....I have thought about it ....but my idea of spending no more than $20 for a pair of jeans...well, that's just me. I also don't like my jeans to look faded, so when I wash them for the first time I put them in the washer after I have added the water I add:
    The recommended amount of detergent
1 1/2 cups of Vinegar ( it doesn't matter if it's white distilled vinegar or Apple Cider Vinegar they both work the same ) to the wash water.
I then add the Fabric Softener Pearls /Beads...whatever they're called OR I add Downy Liquid in the Downy Ball.....
    **************************************************************************************************************************
The Vinegar SETS the color on your jeans.....ACTUALLY to help prevent fading, add a 1 1/2 cup of Vinegar to ALL new clothes you wash.....then repeat adding vinegar every 6-7 washings.......it keeps your clothes looking new and is so much CHEAPER than Color Catchers....and besides you don't really know about all the chemicals that are in the color catchers....but there's nothing in Vinegar that will hurt you OR your clothing !
Also, if you like creases in your SLEEVES or your slacks / jeans ......take a wet wash cloth, pour vinegar on the wash cloth, wring out and then put on the cease....and using a hot iron press the crease into your clothing ! This will keep the cease in your clothes for a while.....then when you want to put the cease back in the clothes, just repeat !

Usually, if a person wants 'softness' in a fabric, I'm sorry to say (because I hate polyester because it's synthetic and made from oil) it's usually due to the polyester, rayon/viscose/lyocell -names for almost same fabric or elastane/Lycra/Spandex content. If it's long staple cotton or Egyptian cotton it means it's a longer cotton fiber, which is more valued, which means it's better quality cotton, so that is a factor but most denim doesn't brag about what type of cotton it is, that's usually sheets or bath towels.

  • @cyclesofstrength

I'm tired of my jeans getting all stretched out after wearing them for a few hours. I'm shifting my buying habits to less in quantity but more quality clothes. If your stuff is higher quality and will last longer, you can wear them more often then they'll still look good. I used to always buy really cheap clothes, but I feel like I end up just spending more money over time because they never last. I'm also really tired of the seams getting all twisted just by me wearing them. I'll put on a pair in the morning and they look great, but by lunchtime the seams on the sides of the legs are in the front center. I'm over crappy clothes.

never over $60, but I also don't buy designer clothes (except second hand).
I generally get jeans from stores like LL Bean, Land's End or Orvis. Because these stores sell clothing for hiking, camping and riding, their jeans are usually made with a more forgiving fit than is typical for their price range. In particular, you aren't going to run across a pair of jeans that's too tight in the crotch or thigh. Paying for designer names doesn't actually get you anywhere, but looking at tags does. I've definitely noticed, as you concluded here, that the best jeans have the lowest polyester percentage: especially if it's a tighter style.

More expensive clothes use more vanity sizing. Your pay to feel better about yourself for wearing a smaller size. My problem with jeans are that I I buy what fits in the dressing room.. Some jeans stretch out excessively after wearing for awhile. Other jeans (mostly stretch material) shrink over time washing. After 20 washes they are too small. Yes, I could line dry instead of using dryer, but I don't want a bunch of wet jeans hanging all over my house. Plus I live in a humid climate and don't want extra humidity in my house. How long do the jeans last. I like dark jeans and don't want them to fade.

Great review. I wanted you to keep the Vince...
I used to wear mostly designer jeans - 7 For All Mankind, Citizens of Humanity, Paige Premium, etc. At the time they sold for $125-175 (now, they're like $175-275). I often would get them on sale & pay around or even just under $100. I LOVED how they felt, how they wore. Post-divorce, I'm no longer in a position to afford, so I'm shopping in the $30-60 range. I'm absolutely LOVING what I can get for that. They're not as soft, it's true, they stretch out faster, yes. But the construction, fit, durability & comfort are excellent. My current fave brands in that range are Levis (they're high-waist skinnies are GREAT), Two by Vince Camuto (which I thought looked best on you) & Wit&Wisdom, though the most recent couple of seasons were disappointing. At these prices, I sometimes get lucky & can even score pretty, colorful, comfortable denim on sale for under $25! Totally worth it. I don't really miss my designer jeans... And when I really need a fix, consignment shops baby!!

The most fair way to compare is when you don't know the brands or prices.
and seems like sometimes you just needed a larger size.
I can tell you, 1 size can feel different in the same style & brand. Jeans material is stacked very thick & then the pieces are cut down thru the whole stack of material. So then, the same size jeans will be a little bigger or smaller depending on whether the fabric was on top or bottom of the stack.

The most I've ever spent on jeans was about $15. While I do notice a difference in quality and durability in more expensive jeans I cannot bring myself to spend so much money on a piece of clothing. My solution? Shop at thrift stores! People who buy expensive clothes tend to take care of them but they also want to stay on trend and regularly get rid of perfectly good clothing. My current favorite pair of jeans I got in like-new condition for $3, they retail for about $40. Several years ago I got an $80 pair of jeans for $2.

Just, FYI, percentage of spandex doesn't really mean what people assume. The construction of the twill in the fabric makes a HUGE difference in the stretch. You could totally have 10% spandex with little to no stretch and 2% spandex with a LOT of stretch.
Also the bulge at the zipper is because the shank button isn't centered over the zipper tape. It doesn't have anything to do with fit. It's all about construction.
For me, jean purchases are generally around $125 and up. I'm totally on board to spend a lot because you can wear them for longer and you get better fabric and washes.

I am such a cheapskate with clothes. I stick to $20/pair. After seeing the difference just in the $55 pair vs the $10 pair I think I may venture out to the store to try on some more expensive jeans. I wear them enough that the value would outweigh the initial cost. I just have to psych myself up when I get to the register. Another super fun video!

I wear KanCan jeans and I love them. They’re about $60-$70 depending on if they have a lot of destruction, more buttons, etc. But my favorite pair is a button fly with no zipper. Solves that bulge issue. Check them out! Good value for money in my opinion.

First jeans were just too tight. 2nd pair too tight, 3rd pair too tight 4th pair too tight 5th pair too tight. Try one size up.

I used to be a jean snob, then my sil who worked for a company that certified everything to me most are made in a hand full of factories and after a certain point there's no difference in materials. Find something relatively thick that fits well.

I stick within the 20 to 50 dollar range with jeans. I prefer the lower end. Anything lower than that doesn't fit me and anything higher is out of my price range. I can't afford it.

I just "stumbled" across this video and as soon as I saw the name of it, I was in to watch! Thx for the video, I personally think #3 looked best on you, but 3-5 all looked nice. Years ago, What Not to Wear on TLC, really drove home to me the value in buying a few pricey pieces that you will have for years vs a ton of cheap clothing that'll only last you a little past the first few washes. Should you bankrupt yourself on jeans or clothes? No, but an investment piece every now and then, that you can afford, just might be worth it.

H&M has really bad quality jeans in my opinion. I'm not a very big jeans lover so I don't spend a lot of money on them. I usually spend around 25$. I am curious how well she would rate a 25$ pair.

No offense to anyone who does, but I would never spend more than 30$ on a pair of jeans, and even then I'm hesitant. There are plenty of places to find good quality jeans for 10$; You just have to know where to look, also H&M is pretty notorious about having to go up 2-4 sizes depending on what you're getting. I'm a size 5/6 in most brands. But In H&M I have to get size 8-10.

i just feel h&m is inconsistent on a whole different level. on 2 different occasions, i got 2 pairs of the same style jean in the same size (one was blue one was black on both occasions) and 1 was significantly looser than the other like??? and they were different lengths too. how does that happen h&m?? granted i still like all the pairs i bought, especially since they were all clearance haha, but it is not good to have those inconsistencies in the same styles of jeans

Okay...my ultimate jeans of all time are the high-waist skinny jeans with 3 front buttons at Charlotte Russe. They fit a pear shape gal with a booty perfectly, they're $32, and they usually have sales like Buy One, Get One 1/2 Off. They have a lot of stretch, I'm not worried about undies showing in the back, and they come in an array of colors.

I personally like the highwaisted jeans from charlotte russe. They are usually around $35. Compared with other jeans ive owned, they were the most elastic. And ive always had trouble with finding leggings. They always slide down and are see through. I recently bought maternity leggings at ross for $5.99 and OMG they are so comfy. They sit high and they are thicker and the inside feels super soft. They say maternity but they look like normal leggings
