I think you touched on the overriding problem we face on many levels. Our governments make regulations, but they never explain why. They know why, they did studies, the experts came to conclusions. Now let's see it. A detailed explanation at the sites, a QR code to more information on the studies and laws. Phone numbers, addresses, emails, for questions, observations, comments and concerns. If there's some logic and empirical, peer reviewed data that has been replicated and approved by multiple scientists, well then, humans must yield to nature. This is not our planet, it belongs to all of us, and by us, I mean the millions of other species of plants and animals.

The ban on surfing at certain beaches in Norway during the winter is often due to specific safety and logistical considerations. Here are some possible reasons for this: 1. Safety with high waves and strong currents In winter, sea conditions can be extremely dangerous, with powerful waves, strong currents, and freezing water. While kayaking, windsurfing, and kitesurfing can also be risky, these sports often involve more controllable conditions (e.g., the ability to navigate or launch from calmer waters). 2. Specific risks of surfing Surfers are often directly in the “impact zone” where waves break, exposing them to greater risks such as strong undercurrents and collisions with rocks or the seabed. In contrast, kitesurfers and windsurfers generally stay further out beyond the breaking waves. 3. Rescue and supervision challenges Rescuing surfers is more challenging because they are often further from shore and cannot navigate back independently like kayakers or windsurfers. Winter conditions make rescue operations even more complicated due to cold weather, limited daylight, and rough seas. 4. Local regulations and priorities In Norway, municipalities or coastal areas often determine which activities are permitted based on specific circumstances and past experiences with accidents or near-misses. Kayaking and windsurfing may lead to fewer incidents than surfing, resulting in less strict rules for these sports. 5. Ecological considerations Some beaches may have more sensitive ecosystems during winter, and surfing can cause greater disruption as surfers often operate in delicate coastal zones. Other watersports may remain further away from these areas.
@@sthie thanks for sharing. Those could be good reasons, but as surfers we want those good and bigger waves in Norway. Norway generally has almost no waves in the summer, mostly in the winter. And the winter months still does not have big waves haha. But for beginners it could be dangerous. They, however surf in the summer when the waves are small and safe.

A load of rubbish, surfing not harming any birds
Agreed! 🙌
@@topherdean1024 Yes good point. They probably have their reasons published somewhere but not sure how much proper research has been put into it.

Clown world.
The ban on surfing at certain beaches in Norway during the winter is often due to specific safety and logistical considerations. Here are some possible reasons for this:
1. Safety with high waves and strong currents
In winter, sea conditions can be extremely dangerous, with powerful waves, strong currents, and freezing water. While kayaking, windsurfing, and kitesurfing can also be risky, these sports often involve more controllable conditions (e.g., the ability to navigate or launch from calmer waters).
2. Specific risks of surfing
Surfers are often directly in the “impact zone” where waves break, exposing them to greater risks such as strong undercurrents and collisions with rocks or the seabed. In contrast, kitesurfers and windsurfers generally stay further out beyond the breaking waves.
3. Rescue and supervision challenges
Rescuing surfers is more challenging because they are often further from shore and cannot navigate back independently like kayakers or windsurfers. Winter conditions make rescue operations even more complicated due to cold weather, limited daylight, and rough seas.
4. Local regulations and priorities
In Norway, municipalities or coastal areas often determine which activities are permitted based on specific circumstances and past experiences with accidents or near-misses. Kayaking and windsurfing may lead to fewer incidents than surfing, resulting in less strict rules for these sports.
5. Ecological considerations
Some beaches may have more sensitive ecosystems during winter, and surfing can cause greater disruption as surfers often operate in delicate coastal zones.

That reminds me of Sea Shepherd in Reunion Island campaigning against what they called "assholes surfers" because many wanted to trim down the local bull sharks population that was responsible for 60% of fatal attacks in 2012... In the WHOLE world.
Meanwhile tons and tons of sharks are fished in Europe, Asia etc. but no, let's harass surfers on that small island and make the sea a no-go zone. On an island. 🙃
That’s a good point. I think often they have good intentions but they don’t make a difference when they target just surfers. They need to go after the big fishing industries. Or maybe they do..
@@shannonainsliesurf I think they do to a certain extent but insulting surfers seems a bit too much when the risk was becoming *that* significant for anyone going into the sea (even a kayak got attacked). The sharks already had a good 60% of the coast to them where no one would swim/surf in their right mind before and the odd attack could happen in the surfing area but never to the extent we saw.
