We can donate the things we dont need to places like Goodwill and they will either sell it for a less cost in their shops here or ship it to other countries so that others can make use of it. People hold garage sales usually when they sell a house and buy another house. Unlike in India most people dont stay in the same house for a long time . So, when we sell, we either give off things we dont want for free or for money lesser than store prices.

They also sell antiques, vintage, branded for cheap etc. It makes things for affordable bargain buys and helps environment as things don’t end up in a landfill. There are several stores that do the same concept too ( slightly more expensive and no bargain). Also Amazon, EBay, Craigslist, Facebook marketplace etc have online shopping for second hand items.
Flea markets are quite popular. FB marketplace is a spin-off of the same idea. It saves things from going into the landfill and it’s a great opportunity to get vintage/ antique items including furniture.
