I’ve also used that voice memo trick and let me tell you, my memos sound EXACTLY like yours 😂 Very fun to listen back to the epiphany and how I got there
Me too! Imo when you're explaining things out loud, you condense the info more, and that tends to reveal holes and new possibilities much better than anything else 😂
This was really relatable. I just finished my act 2 out of 3 and i STRUGGLED there. This is the first rewrite of my zero draft and there have been huge revisions to tackle.
I usually just condense my final chapters into a couple paras, type THE END, and leave it for Future Me to fix in edits. So I'm very impressed by your third draft but pause to rewrite the entire ending again 😆
I know what you mean about reading other books. Different genre for me -- sci Fi. But I'm rereading a Lois McMaster Build series, and a few days ago I was just like -- oh man! That's the thing that's the thing in the thing at the end! I think my 20-something self missed a lot of those connections the first time around. But now that I'm writing my own, I'm like "what is she doing here? What is she up to?"
Well, I learned something new: I thought all background noise was called "white noise." In the immortal words of Col. Nathan Jessup, "Is there another kind?"
I'm glad I'm not the only one with a pet who is sus of people coming to do work. Torte will cone running like: there's an ax murderer in the house! I protect you! (Also I hide with you) 😅 And it's like they're here to service lift/oxygen or whatnot but according to Torte it's all about death! 😂
hahaha poor Torte! Nahan barks his head off while the person is outside, but if they have to come inside for anything, all he wants is for them to pet him lol
I have a question -- when you change your outline, do you specifically save the version that went with the beta reader version? Or do you just make incremental edits the whole way through?
Love the thumbnail! That first clip explained it. I find pacing and talking really does help with story ideas when I am stuck. Pumpkin spice time 🕯
I'm so happy for the pumpkin spice candle time 🥰 Now if only the outside temps would start dropping...lol

hahaha it's pretty funny to listen back to them, but it really does help!
Yay, It's Meredith Friday, everyone! Let's gooooo!
hahaha awww thanks, Cheryl! 🥰🥰🥰
A tip for endings. Figure out what your character's central flaw is, and have them overcome it in the climactic scene.
This vlog was encouraging to me. Also, I super-enjoyed that Dryer's English book you recommended.
I'm glad you enjoyed the vlog! And very glad you enjoyed the book 🥳

That first big revision pass is the hardest part of the whole process for me. It's tough!! You've got this 💪
Great thumbnail! I keep meaning to try voice memos when I get an idea.
Thanks! Thumbnails are my nemesis, haha!

I _really_ want to get this thing into shape for alphas, haha! This ending is the current bane of my existence. I'm still not sure if it's right 😩

YES I love the connections that just blow your mind as you read. It's SO GOOD. Coming up with them yourself...not so easy 😭
Well, I learned something new: I thought all background noise was called "white noise." In the immortal words of Col. Nathan Jessup, "Is there another kind?"
I think it's based on the frequency or something? I don't know, but they all sound different. Brown noise is best.

I save the older version first and then duplicate/copy it and edit the copy.
