This week we take a look back on what we have done so farm in 2024! What worked and what didn't? We will find out! Follow us on: TikTok - / farmtheoryni #smartfarming
Ya and I think you should award your dad a 10/10 for putting the calves in the silage fields to tidy up around the edges. Best decision ever 10/10.🏆⭐🎉😌
The recap is a good idea for your own management. As the years go by selective memory kicks in and you end up with a kind of blurred memory of the better bits. In 10 years time it will be something to look at again especially for the tyres, the machinery and the length of time a reseed lasts.
Haha don't worry about looking daft scoring yourself high !! If your happy with how things worked out that's ace, and we're all happy for you big man 🤩 we know by now your first to admit when not so happy or make a mistake so take the wins 🤠 Have a good weekend 🙌
Re spraying the body panels truly enhanced the look of the tractor but it would look hugely better if you got the rims painted usually cost about 400-500 and is always worth it👍love the videos👌
Thanks for doing these videos. It’s fascinating watching and hearing your thoughts and plans. I’m not surprised your plans were pretty much all successful as you’re clearly one clever guy and quite a businessman as well as electronics engineer and software developer! Had you not been a farmer I think you’d be doing very well running any business or employed in some IT related job like I am! Will be interesting to see if your prediction about grass/silage shortage comes true!
It might be worth while trialling letting a crop of ryegrass self seed. If it increased yield in subsequent years, then do it on a rotation basis. Let it dry to shatter the seed heads & bale the grass for dry cows. th-cam.com/video/-3_xCNu1mtI/w-d-xo.html
I can tell you now Andrew, the choice between Michelin and BKT was a good one. We’ve BKT’s on our John Deere at home and I’m not impressed with them. Too fast wearing and they’re cracking!😐
Score for changing tractors chopping when it would have been easier to swap the solenoid on the back , 0/10 , sorry but I couldn’t help throwing that one in
I am just wondering how you can justify having a tractor that you only have 6000 hours on after 15 years? I have the same disease but I have made the decision that I will not keep a tractor or anything with an engine unless it’s doing 1000 hours a year and if we need another tractor or loader , we hire in the contractor it just works out cheaper and it’s also helps to have the man that comes with it. We probably have to much gear for the size of our operation but by not having machines that we are not actually using for at least 1000 hours a year we are at least ensuring that what we do have is paying for itself. I know that we are fortunate to have 4/5 contractors around us that are happy enough to put in a machine at a reasonable price when asked even if it is not pulling anything ( as I said we have to much gear but at least the gear doesn’t depreciate at the speed of light!) love your content and appreciate the time and effort you put into doing these videos. Regards from Wicklow
Im with you on early grazing. No need to convince me. But that paddock is not recovered. It will be giving 70% of its potential max. But was still worth it. Ya have to get them out at almost any cost
2 years ago we disced a reseed in the autumn time, it was the year of the very hot August, Not pleased with how it went at all disc was bouncing off the ground and to this day the grass is dead on its feet, thinking of getting the contractor in to panbust but you'll never beat the way of the plough!!
A flock of sheep will help graze down your reseeded ground and in turn help stimulate tillers to form, this creates a much denser sole / swarth to your crop, 'The lamb of God' 🐑 🐏
The reality if nearly all of your decisions on a farm aren't good decisions you'll go broke very quickly! So don't be so surprised you've made mostly good decisions.
You've probably biased towards 10/10 because your judgement was focusing heavily on your execution of your idea. So for example a 10/10 for a great reseed might not be a view shared by an accountant in the short term. Of course it's your video to scire how you like but I could sense your guilt about marking your own homework 😂
@@adamsandrew5587perhaps I haven't made my point clearly enough. There is a period of time before the RETURNS exceed the initial investment. In a business where there is a restricted amount of capital available a great investment might have to be postponed. With reseeding it might be a short period but it's still there. That's why I said short term.
Always love your analysis. Different to most other farming videos, very interesting keep them coming.

😂😂
Don't even.... 🤣🤣

Thanks! Appreciate it! 😅
I've always wanted farmers to roll twice like the way u do it... but they thought I was mad and wouldn't do it... u have proved it ..
Absolutely makes a big difference
Great idea and great to see how your various ideas and plans work out in time ...

Good advice. I will do!

Let's hope I'm wrong on the silage shortage!
Your decision to do a youtube video of at least 1 a week?
5/10, it's ALOT of work! 🤣
Not a bit of it 😂. 10/10 from this side. Keep them coming
Really enjoyed this video, very good idea.
Dude talk about bias 😂!!!! You are some man for one man 😁👍 @6:00. My rating for your videos in 2024 so far 🤔..... 10/10 🎉. 🤣🤣🤣
Well I am honoured by that score. 🤣🫡

Good idea!
Hi sir I'm interested in job I am speaking from India Mumbai my name is pawan singh please reply sir
Wonder if the double rolling continues to benefit as time goes on or risks creating root issues?
10/10, Farming just gotta keep going, the weather will do it`s own thing.
My friend who’s anonymous, I won’t mention Johnny’s name 😂😂
Overall I'd say good job well managed 😊

That was exactly what I was worried about. We have Bridgestone on our small Massey and I am also not impressed, they clog up with dirt so easily
Score for changing tractors chopping when it would have been easier to swap the solenoid on the back , 0/10 , sorry but I couldn’t help throwing that one in
That is absolutely accurate! Wish I thought of that!! 😅

It works out, I will do a video on the financials of it. Our puma is now only doing 350-400hrs a year and the 8s is only doing 450-500

You think? Maybe I should overseed it?
Do you do any pre mowing? Or topping paddocks with a mower? Make a good video regards the benefits.
Yes! I've done loads of videos about it on tiktok!
Any redshank on the reseed?
Forefront on the grass before reseeding does alot to stop that!

Ideally all reseeding should be done by mid-August 👍
Yes, the silage smells, great. lol
I'd give you 0/10 for that video you done on stitching in grass.
That's a very fair score!! I have the grass seed and everything, just the timings didn't work out! 100% be done after third cut!
How would you rate each bull you used for AI this year how was there conception ect?
That will be a video once I get the herd scanned next week! 👌
You said last year you might be building another clamp, is that still the case?
I would have if I needed the space, however I'm going to be short of silage I think, so probably won't do it this year either.
Do u always feed silage in the summer as a buffer feed or is it just because grass is tight??
Always, the amount can vary alot.
Ur doing well kid
Great content, loved the recap, thanks for sharing,
Glad you enjoyed it
Ill not mention jonnys name😅
Have you considered doing a review on the jimny?
Yeah, I did on tiktok, I will do on TH-cam also. 🫡
Really enjoyed this video, very good idea.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Good stuff
10/10
Should spray the rims
Yeah, Its just hard to get it organised. 😅
A flock of sheep will help graze down your reseeded ground and in turn help stimulate tillers to form, this creates a much denser sole / swarth to your crop,
'The lamb of God' 🐑 🐏
I would argue my cows can do that also. 😅
@FarmTheoryNI
Young stock will suffice
Cows definitely NOT,
Ask a Doctor
Teagasc 🥸 👍
Can u please stop saying sowing when ur just SPREADING fert
I can't help it! Easier for everyone else to start using sowing. 😬🤣
The reality if nearly all of your decisions on a farm aren't good decisions you'll go broke very quickly! So don't be so surprised you've made mostly good decisions.
Agreed, you have to get it right the vast majority of the time. Wish I said that.
You've probably biased towards 10/10 because your judgement was focusing heavily on your execution of your idea. So for example a 10/10 for a great reseed might not be a view shared by an accountant in the short term.

What sort of accountant wouldn't see the short term ROI purely on the rise in milk revenue?

random @GeoWizard shoutout XD
I want to do a straight line mission across NI with him, I can help with the farmer issue!
