As someone who’s only lived in urban areas, I find it really interesting and cool how much effort you put into growing vegetables and it’s just amazing to see how peaceful it is, in contrast with the hustle and bustle life of the city. I’m from London, England btw. Just as a side note, I never knew how funny vegetable seed names could be, ‘cool customer’ 😂😂

This is my Sabbath year..so not much going on this year in our gardens, except for strawberries, asparagus.
I just ordered your sisters garden planner book and I am blown away!!!! I LOOOVE it. She thought of everything. I’ve been trying to put something like this together myself and it’s a mess. Her book has it all including beautiful artwork. I hope she continues to put them out each year because I can’t imagine doing without one again. Please tell her thank you so much. I did my sheet inventory in google docs and it's been pretty handy! Just yesterday, I started cold stratifying 32 different seeds and can't wait for them to be ready! On my last count, we have 140 different seeds to plant. We're growing some medicinal plants, culinary herbs, a pollinator garden, tea garden, fruit and vegetable gardens, and, of course, each miniature human gets their own. Hahahaha!
I didn't realize how much work goes into this, but it's soooo rewarding and worth it. I really appreciate your efforts to help your anxiety and do what brings you joy. Growing things and taking care of Earth has helped me find my center, too, and now I realize, I know I'm not alone in feeling this way. It's so hard to feel alive when so much of what we're taught suppresses our natural instinct, which is to grow what we need ourselves and be self-sustainable. I am so grateful for your bravery in sharing your struggles because more people relate than you realize. I'm shifting into a new way of being because I've resonated so much with your videos and experiences.

Very inspirational. I admire your steadiness and detail in your planning. I could never do it. I always just wing it each year and only plant the vegetables that seem to work consistently year over year. I have five raised garden beds and it works for us to supplement our spring summer and fall meals.
We just used Seedtime for the first time this year, and we love it! It takes a lot of the guess work out of seeding!

We've been wanting to up our berry production also. The bushes and orchards are my husband's domain, but I saved all of my strawberry runners last year and planted them in the fall. Fingers crossed for more sweets!

I love seedtime. It’s fantastic. It’s especially good for us in the zones 10 and 11, since their program works for winter and all year gardening, like we can do here. I love it so much. I am getting older, so it’s getting harder to keep track of everything, and like you said, it’s easier to plan and ask for help to do the chores.
Hey Becky, I've been using Seedtime for about 2 months and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it! I saw an ad for it on Facebook and was skeptical but I gave the "free trial" a try and within 1 hour I went ahead and paid for the lifetime plan. My only gripe is that I feel their library is pretty weak (they didn't even have garlic?) but hopefully it will grow over time. It is so nice to not have to try and manage my garden with my Excel spreadsheet anymore 👍 and I'm only a small backyard gardener... I can't even imagine how hard it is for you to keep up with your monster garden. Very impressive indeed.... I marvel at your ability every time I see you out there working your crops 😊
Total agreement with the video. 25 years of gardening and I can tell you 3/4 of the work is in the preparation. December and January are downtime with minimal chores and relaxation so I can get ready for next year. Have got everything planned, mapped and organized before I start the first seeds in February. After that it's just following the plan and making adjustments along the way. A lot of people try to sell you what I call 'hippie gardening' where you can walk out and randomly throw down a few seeds somewhere in the back 40 and forget, then have these Garden of Eden like harvests. Trust me that is a negatory. If you plan and organize up front, you can though get spectacular production with a manageable workload.

I'm trying out Seed Time this Spring/Summer. The nursery closest to us has an excellent planting calendar so I usually use and put those dates into my personal calendar but I like the week-by-week checklist of everything you need to do. I haven't looked to see how the dates compare but I do so much better with to-do lists that it'll really help to have those weekly tasks. Thanks for the rec!

We are slowly getting more organized, We have 6 chickens which for us they lay all we need (kids also sell a dozen here and there to friends and family) Last year we canned 30 jars of pickles, and 50ish salsas.
We also over planted a lot of squash but chickens enjoyed it, and we gave away like 30 loafs of summer squash bread. We also have a crab apple tree and two huge mature pear trees. We are gonna try to harvest more pears this coming up year as well because last year we let so many go to waste not knowing how to properly judge when they was ready.
My wife and I enjoyed watching this, we don't have anyone to show us the hustle and the prep. So hope this second year we can be organized plant a bigger variety and keep working towards that year supply.

Sand point well. They don't go down far and just use ground water. Great for the chickens. You can drive them your self.

I have been wondering about seed time I have seen a ton of advertisements about it. Thanks for giving us your opinion.
Just a note.. we live in Upper Michigan and have a small orchard 35 trees. We also have an abundance of deer. We have our orchard fenced. The deer never bothered our orchard when had dogs and let them in the orchard each day for a run..however when we no longer had dogs, the deer we not deterred by the fence.

I just started my own paper spreadsheet for little garden and immediately it was way more efficient and less stressful - once the sheet was completed and filled in. It was a joy to do the things that needed getting done - just by following my own instructions. WOW I didn't know there was an app and will certainly look into this one. THANKS

I just got it and bought the package - I'm thinking this is too good to be true - probably when I get started I will fail miserably but without trying I'll never know if I could fly - through the spreadsheets and instructions, of course.

I just recently found your TH-cam spot and I love it and your family!! The fact that I'm here in 2023 to write this is answer to prayer and priesthood blessings. My wife Barbara and I were living 30 miles Northeast of Seattle and in Sept. of '18 I was told that I had 6-9 months to live due to stage 4 prostrate cancer. I went to Seattle Cancer Care Alliance for help in this battle. In the summer of '19 I had 44 radiation treatments to go along with the Lupron shots and the prednisone pills and my cancer in my groin lymph node cleared up and my PSA numbers went from 55.68(shouldn't be higher than 7 for my age now I'm 77) to not detectable. Because I wanted my wife to be around some of our grandkids we sold our house on 5 acres and moved to Springdale, Ar.! We have a daughter with grandkids in Norman, Ok. and our son with his children moved from Rocklin, Ca. toCenterton, Ar. shortly after we got here. We have the oldest and youngest still living in the Puget Sound area, but no kids!! I have had a lot of cancer spots on my left ear and I ended up down in Little Rock at the UAM facility where Dr. Moreno took out 2 tumors and my left ear. I had 3 major operations within 72 hrs because the first 2 graphs didn't take due to clotting. The 3rd procedure took skin from my left shoulder and pulled and twisted it up to cover the holes caused by the tumors being removed. They used leaches to keep the blood flowing. When I finally got feeling better I found out the trauma to my body caused my potassium and magnesium levels to be out of whack. Basically I died a couple of times but was brought back by the good people at Mercy Hospital. I'm slowly getting back to mobility and going to our Springdale Ward. A lot of people in and out of the Church were praying for my and I know I'm still here because of God's tender mercies and some adamant little girls praying for their grandpa. Can you give me a general area in Arkansas that you live in? I really love the people here but not to sure about the humidity yet. Anyway keep feeding the TH-cam channel and I'll watch it between 1- 3 A.M.. That seems to be what the various hospitals got me use to. Also congrats on the June arrival, our 5th one bugged us both to come to our home. He now is a chiropractor but still lives north of Seattle and has 3 soon to be Scottish Highland cows and one bull along with a few chickens and a small vegetable garden!! Thanks again for your insightful videos. My wife got slammed with a lot of bugs attacking her plants last summer. D

Focusing on fruits is very smart, considering their prices at the store. I wish I could come and help... I do have an idea, but it might be "out there" for some. If you have some sort of water and electric set up somewhere away from your home, you could maybe get some van or travel trailer solo females out to hook up for a certain amount of work hours. There are a ton of FB groups for us, and many women looking for part time work situations. It's a gorgeous property and I'm sure many would jump at the chance to spend spring or summer there. 🌱
I noticed that you pull out a lot of dandelions. I don't know if you know but from roots you can make great herbal coffee. Just wash them, cut, dry, fry on pan and then they're ready :)

I'll try and remember to show it when I get there! I still have a month or two until I start the sweet potato slips. But my favorite method is laying them down flat in seed starting mix on a tray. I used to do the toothpick thing with water... putting them in soil is so much easier!

Really good tips for us all, thanks for that. I have the opposite problem with fruit - too much compared to the veg. But not berries though! Apples, pears, plums, cherries mainly. A few redcurrants, gooseberries and strawberries. Seedtime looks good too!

@@morninggloryfarmstead yeah, I try to share what I can, I make (hard) cider and do a music party in the summer for my neighbours - it was popular! The birds get a lot of it, especially cherries!

Do you keep your chicken’s wings trimmed? I remember someone doing the same thing with their orchard and the chickens flew up in the trees and ate the fruit. I enjoy the seedtime app, I joined around Nov 2022.
What are the boxes and material you use with your soil blocks. I have a soil blocker that I would to use but when i water the blocks slowly fall apart.
Can you please tell me how you can your dehydrated veggies and fruits to keep them shelf stable after dehydrating like do they need vacuum sealed. Please also tell me about your blog and where to find it. I am obsessed with my discovery of your amazing family!!
I don’t know if this helps, but they answer a few of your questions in previous videos. They are very open about the success and failures they have come to and through.
I warn you about moving chickens into an orchard, either trees or bushes. Because they scratch so much, they can damage and kill trees and bushes. Ducks or geese would be better for this! Geese are great, you can sell babies, you can harvest them pretty early for a red meat, and they are great guard dogs & alarm system. Ducks & geese will also eat low vegetation to help keep weeds down, and pests like ticks and slugs.

Hello, new subscriber here! In one of your videos I saw you using a long-handled weeder that had like two parallel slings with enough room in between for your row of little plants, so it was clearing to the left and right of the plants by just pulling it through the soil. I have been looking everywhere and can't find something like this. I would be thrilled if you could tell me the name of the tool and perhaps the brand. Thank you and have a good start to the season!

Where do you get your dirt? how do you manage bugs? Do you do preserve any dofferent ways besides canning? What do u do with that much sweet potato? I live in the south so i dont think i can make a cellar if thats how u store. I need a good book any suggestions from anyone? Appreciate you!
That's a lot of questions. Our soil we didn't add or purchase.The compost you saw in the video comes from a mushroom farm and they sell mushroom compost, that's what it is. We also freeze dry, dehydrate, freeze, and ferment. You don't need a cellar to store sweet potatoes, they easily last for 9 months at room temperature, that is how I store mine. It's called a scissor door. We just looked on YT for a tutorial on how to do it.
What soil do you use/spread on your beds? Do you buy soil or do you make your own?
It's mushroom compost, purchased from a local farm.

I wouldn’t know if they hold up to all the farm chores but their denim has never let me down. And when they’re on sale, they’re pretty affordable. I’ve scored mine for $20-$30 when their full prices range from $50-$60
good luck although the prices of groceries in USA is a steal, don't know why you would need to. 9% of total income vs like 17% here in Australia

Haha, thanks! My doctor told me to keep doing what I normally do and to stay active. I'm not going to crazy and letting them do most of the heavily lifting. Garden work is good for my mental health :)
My major goal this year is to finish establishing our fruit orchard. I'm still working on growing the vegetables for a year. I have some of them down (green beans and tomatoes being the easiest...lol), but have a long ways to go for others (potatoes, corn). Thanks for sharing that app. I'm going to check it out. ~ Stephanie
