  • Learn how to build and install Marlin 2.0 on your 3d Printer. In this video I user Visual Studio Code, platformio, and GitHub source code to create a custom Marlin build for the Anet 3/5 3d printers and discuss the steps to do the same for an Ender 3 V2. For the Anet 3/5, I install a custom boot-loader by using the STlink programmer tool and software.
    This is the most complex video I have produced for the MakeWithTech channel. The material is tricky to get right, the 3d printer calibration steps are complex to do consistently, the storytelling is complicated to make clear and I wish I had the time to do it all over again because it is still too long and could be improved. In the past when I have cut the material into multiple videos people watched part two so I left this video as a massive 40-minute video. Feel free to watch it in multiple seatings.
    The full slide deck is available on the DrVAX user forum. Point your browser at forum.drvax.com. Registration is completely free and then go to the registered users topic where you will find the slide and the configuration files used in the video.
    Here is an outline with approximate timestamps of everything you can find in the video:
    00:00 Introduction
    00:38 Ender 3 and Anet ET4/5 Limitations
    02:02 Marlin Reference Material
    03:15 Marlin 2.0
    05:33 What is a Bootloader?
    09:33 Marlin Source Code
    10:05 Pre-Built Marlin 2.0 Releases
    11:12 Tools Used to Configure Marlin 2.0
    13:25 Steps in Building Marlin 2.0
    14:18 Hards on Marlin Build and Install
    28:33 Installing Bootloader on ANET E4/5
    33:25 Calibrating PID (hot end/bed)
    35:12 Calibrating ABL

It would even be a good idea to share those .bin images somewhere on the Internet. Sorry for bothering, but my eyes keep me from adapting the whole config on screen. Even have to have an eye surgery on April 29th :-(

  • @ASURMlN
    @ASURMlN 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I just did all that two days ago trying to figure everything out myself and luckily got it working in the end.
    The only issue I had in the end was recalibrating the touchscreen. The solution to that was doing a M995 command over pronterface.
    The only thing I wasn't sure about if I had to necessarily bake the new settings into the firmware. I guess that's what you did when you mentioned the PID tuning settings.
    Is there any point in reflashing with the adjusted settings?

    I installed Marlin as this and the Anet website instructed and it has been great. But the sensor keeps being so unreliable. I want to set it up with an endstop switch and just manual bed level, do I need to flash it with the old firmware like the Anet shows for cancelling bed leveling or is there something in the provided Marlin firmware I can do to use end stop switch instead of sensor? Yes I have the hardware just need infor on firmware end. Ty for any help.

    I have an ET4 Pro and I upgraded to standard Marlin 2.0 a couple months ago. Marlin seems to function as it should but I am not very knowledgeable in 3D printing and setting up the firmware for use. What is the best way for me to add settings custom for my printer and correct issues like print head not starting in the center of build plate, I believe the sensor starts in the center, I have navigated through settings and tried many times to change offset values without any luck. Do I just need to start over from scratch or can I modify what I have installed? Thanks in advance!

I have an Ender 3 V2 and have tried to follow a couple other tutorials on configuring Marlin 2.0.x for both BLTouch and a couple tweaks for a Micro Swiss Direct Drive chassis. For the life of me, I cannot get the newly built .bin file to work properly. It loads fine, but the tutorials instructions seem to mess up the BLTouch modification.
    I feel like this video was geared mostly for the Anet users. I wish you could do another in-depth discussion for those of us trying to make changes to Marlin source for our Ender 3 V2’s.

    Anet has recently suggested that the ET5 needs a BMG extruder to replace the stock one before you upgrade to Marlin 2.0, or else you'll get all kinds of extrusion errors.

    I wonder if it will come pre installed in future versions of the ET/4?...if not I think I will just have to stick with the Stock firmware.....wish it was as easy as updating firmware on a motherboard/dashcam/camera etc which I have done many times :(

    I don't know where I messed up. I was trying some of the advanced features then the printer froze so I decided to turn it off and then back on. After that I got the power outage screen asking if I want to resume the print but the touchscreen won't work. I tried also to hold my finger on the display to do a new calibration but nothing happens. I then chose to flash the memory and put back the old firmware but the screen will remain the same (still asking if I want to resume the print or not). I even tried to erase the chip and put back the old firmware but the screen turns white without showing anything. I really don't know what to do, if I try to put marlin it will show the same freaking resume print screen.

    Purchased an ET5 a month ago, but it shipped with defective parts. The X Axis drive belt broke upon attempted installation. Contacted the company, but no replacement has shipped in the last month, only repeated requests for proof of purchase and photos of the part, all of which were sent multiple times. Would love to try this and similar projects with my son if only the company was dedicated to customer satisdaction

    • @amarbendale861
      @amarbendale861 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I too spent time to check having manual mesh levelling in my Ender3 v2. I found that it can be enabled in firmware and can be used via Pronterface but not through display. Having gone through the Marlin firmware files, I would say the E3v2 struggles to have the feature via display is because the display interface is not compatible with the graphic displays used in earlier enders or alike. Significant amount of code would be required to make it happen without affecting normal functioning.😔 The Marlin community will surely come for solutions on this.🙂
      I myself haven't tried to do manual levelling firmware. Built it but kept stock since i was able to only use my printer for less than 20 hrs printing time in period of two months.😒

The main reason v2 doesn't recognize the code is it's made without lcd. I'm not like a type of code-wise guy so my knowledge is very limited. I am brand new to 3D printing. Just bought an Ender 3 v2, BL Touch. I’m finding this video very confusing for a few reasons. 1. It seems to be almost exclusively geared towards ANET ET4/5, not Ender 3v2. Also, as a Mac user, like you, this is all done in Windows. I wish you had a version that is for the Ender and firmware build on an OS platform. I’m sure I’m not the only viewer running on OS.

    So far I have configured and compiled Marlin V2.0 for the Pro controller to handle 99% of the functionality of the Ender 5 Plus.

    It is obvious that you know what you are talking about, but you start explaining how to do something and then a little way into it you say "but we're not going to do that" so many times that a newbie gets lost in all of the info. that, I guess, wont be used in this firmware change on the ET4 Pro. That's where I am right now. I have Marlin 2.0 on my ET4 Pro but the ext ruder perimeters must be wrong(I don't know, I should have left it like it was) because it crashes when I try to use it. I walked away from it for awhile but the problem is still there..Lol

    • @MarcusPfeiffer
      @MarcusPfeiffer ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't know if it's an issue with the ET4 as well, but Anet has suggested that the ET5 should have a BMG extruder upgrade before attempting the Firmware update.

    I don't get notifications. I'm a supermarket shopper. But it's neat if the supermarket makes all the things I usually want conveniently available. TH-cam, at least on PC, has a setting that lets you see just your subscriptions, arranged in most recent-first chronological order. Just scan the first 15 or 20 of them when you want to know what's going on.
