Rigging your Trolling Board

I haven’t managed a day out on the water recently, but that should change soon.
In the meantime, I thought I would do a video showing how I rig my trolling boards. I did describe it a few episodes ago but as they say, a picture is worth a thousand words, and I cover a couple of minor points that I don’t think I have mentioned before.
I now get all my trolling supplies from Mr Bait:

After your last discussion on the trolling boards I bought a couple to try out and also got a couple of spoons to go with them. I have not used them yet or set them up but this will make it easy.
Do I really have to get the missus to buy some pillow cases? Maybe that is the secret to your sucess.
I will let you know how I go.
Thanks again for the informative clip, I look forward to seeing them coming up each week and your intimate knowledge of home waters and your wilingness to share locations and suceess rates is most appreciated.

Got a couple of boards from Mr Bait, but what Rod combo. Can you point me in the right direction. Love the videos!

I like overheads for that form of trolling.
My cheap combo is a Shimano rod and a Shimano TLD 20 spooled with 80lb braid.
My other combo is a Shimano Backbone Elite and a Penn Fathom II also spooled with 80lb braid.
I bought the cheap one as a combo on special just for trolling. I bought the second one for bottom bashing so it does double duty for trolling.
All that said, you can use any rod and reel combo that has sufficient drag to hold the trolling board at speeds between 4 and 6 knots. The reels I have go up to 20lb of drag and that is more than enough, you could get by with less. Use 40 lb braid or better. Buy the thinnest braid you can afford, I prefer Grappler or Ocea but they are on the expensive side. Thinner braid lets the board dive deeper. I also buy multi-colour braid as it makes it easier to know how much line you are letting out.

      @@weFishAU what weight is the rod? 6 - 10, or 10 - 15 seems to be popular

My rods are 15kg but they serve multiple purposes. Trolling larger boards or lures at higher speeds requires heavier gear so these rods do everything for me.

@@johnx9318 if Hemant isn't too far out of your way, try Mr Bait. I find he is usually cheaper than the majors and his frozen bait is way better.

@@weFishAU I've been meaning to check him out. Lived here for 20 years and never heard of him until you mentioned the name.
