I had an Elkhound. Somebody dumped her at the shelter when she was a puppy. Sweetest girl with a heart of gold. However, she was the laziest, lovable, unbothered pup I’ve ever had. She hated walks, if you threw the ball- she would walk to it and lay down. No interest in physical activity whatsoever. All she wanted was her belly rubbed and food. Same Bella, same. Miss that big cuddle bug. RIP Bellatrix 1998-2012

As the owner of a Norwegian elkhound. The pancake is pretty normal, same is grabbing with their nails.
A lot of them also hates water with a passion! And elkhounds shed about twice a year. 6 months at at time. And every single time you wonder where all the hair comes from, and how they still have any hair left.. 😅

Another fun fact: Moose were the original Elks. Europeans called them elks, before the term was moved to second largest deer species as the common name because that is what colonists called wapitis(the native shawnee and cree language terms for them) when they saw them. So, technically, there are elks in norway, just depends on the language that you're using.

Our family had a Norwegian elkhound for a couple of years - unfortunately circumstances forced us to let another family adopt her. But while we had her she was such a sweetie and really energetic. OMG she would shed *in clumps and handfuls* every spring no matter how much I brushed her. She had that cute little head tilt like we saw Moose doing at the end of the video. I think their hearing might be extra- sensitive because we lived not far from a rail yard and the squealing of the train car brakes could sometimes be horrible torture for her (thus reluctantly finding a new place for her to live). Great dog, nice companion.

Moose is a really nicely bred elkhound!
have had elkhounds for 20 years. I have seen plenty of elkhounds act like moose 🫎 for bath time. My boy elkhound is happy to cooperate with bath and blow dry. My girl only tolerates the whole process but she is giddy and happy when she is all clean and done with the whole process.
The Norwegian word for elkhound dog is “elghund”. “Elg” is moose in Norwegian.
