    Thank you very much! I had problems with a Debian 11 "bullsheye" resetting its virtual terminal resolution as soon as the kernel takes over, despite Grub showing in the correct resolution I set in /etc/default/grub. Searching around for more than an hour didn't turn up anything really useful until I finally found your video and gave the

      Using "Virtio" display setting and changing the screen resolution from your guest OS works but in my case the scrolling became rather jerky. Do you have any solution to that?

    On top of all the other benefits of using QEMU, this helps to make QEMU so much better than VirtualBox!

    That's nice, but I have monitor with 2560 x 1440 resolution and it is not available, not before boot and not after.
    I can add mode with xrandr if I am using xorg though. With Wayland I was not able to find solution, it seems no way to change it
    to 2560 x 1440 at all.

    I dont understand how is this not the first proposed solution in google!

    • @TheBackslash1
      @TheBackslash1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There may be several reasons for something to not be the first proposed solution on google. One of which may be the fact that this solution does not actually work. As soon as you click apply, the resolution element you've just created will disappear and no changes will be made.

      Should be like this:
      (no slash)
      (slash here)
      (and here)
      By default it's like:

    Very simple question: how can I set the window size of a QEMU window from command line?
    I am asking this because extensive googling didn't give me any usable answer.
    When I run the qemu-system-x86_64 command, I can choose the -full-screen option, but I didn't figure out how to simply give an initial window size (when you start QEMU without full screen mode, the default Window size is very small).
    The only thing I could find is the -g option, but this one is "PPC, SPARC only" according to the man page and does indeed not work, probably because it directly passes this resolution to the VM itself.
    While the thing is that the Linux system that I am running inside the VM perfectly adjusts it's screen resolution based on the QEMU window size when I manually change it by resizing, that's why I don't understand if there won't be any option for it in the QEMU command line.

      Same problem. Anything with a 80x25 screen like DOS is too small on modern systems. I can change the window size while it's running, but that doesn't take effect. Earlier, it was different. Qemu used to allow software-scaling to any size.

    я уже второй день трачу на это время, в инете только и написано "ставь qxl и всё получится" и больше инфы ноль, а что получится вообще фиг его знает. я сам использую virtio в качестве гпу, ибо удобней, особено с 3д, но ля))) qxl ни в какие ворота. так вот, о чём это я работает отлично и для virtio, а не только qxl

    I wish you would let us in on the secret to writing resolution elements.

    • @girardaquino
      @girardaquino ปีที่แล้ว

      From docs:
      Since 5.9.0 , the model element may also have an optional resolution sub-element. The resolution element has attributes x and y to set the minimum resolution for the video device. This sub-element is valid for model types "vga", "qxl", "bochs", "gop", and "virtio".
      I think that's all there is to it?
