    The privacy handset is so you can take a call over the cars system and have the conversation be private as it disables the car speakers and sends the call to the privacy handset. The major grenade on all Bentleys from 04 to late 07 is they route the vacuum lines over the trans which is prone to heat and splitting the rubber. Its an engine out procedure to convert them to steel lines that wont fail.

      Issues was rectified in early 06. All cars built before April 06 will have this issue, after that they rerouted the pipes.
      It's not an age thing, it's amount of heat cycles on the pipes. I've seen cars with 100,000 miles without issues and cars with 15,000 miles on 2 new sets of vac pipes.
      There is an easy test to check by putting a smoke machine on the system from the canister, driver's side front wheel arch, behind the arch liner.

    A little tip.....these have two batteries. The big one on the Dr side, and another one hidden in the passenger side. When the Dr battery goes dead(and it will in about a week of sitting) you can activate the pass side battery by turning the ignition key to the left for a few seconds. Also try just replacing the batteries in the fobs. I think they're just 2032s. There are a lot of bolt in maxifuses near the batteries I'd check those all first if you've got a no crank issue happening. Best of luck man. They suck so bad to work on but they sure do drive nice when everything works.

    First thing I’d check with key issues is the KESSY. Should be under the drivers carpet. Common for sunroof drain leaks or the wiper cowl drains getting clogged and overflowing into the driver footwell and taking that module out. I’ve bought a Phaeton and an A8 with key issues. Both times were wet KESSY modules. Buy a used one on eBay with your same part number, desolder the 8 pin immobilizer chip in yours, and solder it in the replacement module.

    The Bentley is one of the most elegant cars on the market. It exudes style and luxury. Its also a perfect example of too much custom tech in too small a space. It's a garage queen, lovely to sit in, but utterly unreliable and almost unmaintainable. The engine is a testament to German engineering excess, a nightmare of maintenance inaccessibility and parts unavailability. I laffed out loud when you got excited that the air suspension actually sort of worked eventually. Imagine being dependent on a Rubegoldbergian contraption of electrical, mechanical, pneumatic and computer systems just to keep your bumpers off the pavement. Great project to entertain the interwebbs with thou. Can't wait to see what happens next.

      No one forgot the Jaguar. He made his decision, so what can the viewer do. Working on the Jaguar is like a 1966 VW Beatle next to this Bentley. Both were/are challenges up JR's alley. He says at least he can junk the Bentley when it gets B.A.D. & recovery some if not most of the loss.
      The Jaguar was slightly more attainable to most dreamers, within a solar system of possibility. The Bentley, it's a rich person's old toy.

    For the bumpers make sure you look aftermarket for the front which actually gets rid of the orange side marker. And it seems you have all the pieces. Honesty the car should run fine. If the vacuum lines are taken care of in the back of the engine and beside the transmission. Get them redone and you are pretty good. The w12 is actually very reliable.

  • @jimdieseldawg3435
    @jimdieseldawg3435 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I worked in R&D/Masses & Dimensions at Bentley when the BY611 Spur was developed. Not a fan of the W12 myself; kinda over-refined and sounds like two Triumph triples passive-aggressively arguing in mutters, but it does pack quite a punch. Weight distribution is very front-biased (although rather better in that respect than the BY614 Conti GT) and the steering is a little numb so I found the whole package rather uninspiring. Check the electronics compartment under the carpet in a front footwell (can’t remember which one on LHD); if any seal fails it can fill with water and cause many interesting symptoms. Good luck!

    Those engines are mechanically pretty tough, it's just a nightmare to access anything and the electronics let it down. I'll bet you need a kessy module - the keyless start and entry unit. Very common failure point. The Bluetooth phone used RSAP which only works on some phones, Samsungs do it generally. The handset in the car then lets you use it like a normal phone for privacy. Beautiful car, good luck!

    BMW W12 Engine but VW. Reminds so much of my 05 VW Tourage. The majority of parts inside that care share the same parts the VW Torage has. The reason the key is stuck is because of battery loss. The key might not release because the car will have electrical issues. Don't close the trunk. You won't be able to open it. There is a manual release in the key hole with a paper clip.

They are all paid together with the engine emobilizor permanently. You can't replace only one module you have to do the entire system.

    I think our fathers must have known each other. I was so proud when I got a used Jaguar XJ6 Vanden Plas for $1100.00 living in Las Vegas. When my dad arrived weeks later I said just look in it and see how clean it is an everything works. (everything worked in a older Jaguar 4 door with over 200,000k on the odometer) He opened the door, looked in politely, gave a odd smile and said, Ohh, Ok.: To this day I never saw that look again until today on your dads face. They couldn't be rude to their sons, but don't push it overboard either. "Ohhh ok."

    The handset serves as an privacy handset if a call comes in on a connected mobile phone and a passenger wants to take the call off handsfree. The problem with the older bentleys is the Bluetooth isn't compatible with the current phones so to get it to work you will need to find a Bluetooth adapter kit.
