@@RoysRocks thanks :) I also collect rocks so even if I it doesnt go well, it wouldn't be a total loss. And rough opal is one of my favs. I got into cutting agates first and enjoyed, and have now been working w opal!
Oh I see, you marked off the part I was talking about with sharpie. Working on the side I was talking about with good color. Yeah that side goes all the way through up and down. I was speaking about the sandy part marked off by the black sharpie. The black marker didn't register in my mind for some reason. Was more focusing on each corner of the stone lol. * Dumb smile and partakes in his herbal ritual *
Any thought to isolate where that brown is (could be wrong but this was where the green was on the transverse?) with cut-off discs and then cut from the other side to see if any of that green lends itself to a stone? Fantastic as always!
Yeah i will end up slicing this stone into 4 parts. Its not as bad as previous vote winners and I reckon I can salvage at least 3 smaller stones from it.
If you are in Australia the sintered diamond burrs are sold by gemcuts for $140. It's a bit much for my liking so I have just started getting in small batches to sell at half that price to viewers.
@@RoysRocks what's the title on that video? I've been searching your channel. But no worries, at the rate I've been binge watching through your content, I'll find it sooner or later. Haha!
Lol Nah I dont want to have to choose myself! Takes the pressure off and I just cut away and get pleasantly surprised when a winner doesnt come out completely sandshot 🤣

It takes a special breed to people to mine Mintabie. Its tough ground and a tough opal. I wish mining operations would recommence properly, until then gotta track down those that have a stockpile and see if they are willing to part with any of it.
Thanks for posting this. I bought rough mintabie and am so excited
Well hopefully you get some good ones. It can be shy much of the time but the good ones will surprise you with how bright they can be.

Another great video. I look forward to these. 💎
Thanks man. Was an good example of Mintabie. It is a funny material. Hopefully we get a few good ones soon.
Always enjoy your vids Roy , have a good Christmas dude .
Thanks man you too.
Should I buy LR opal and not bother with Mintabie? I've been looking at some Mintabie but I'm not skilled at all...
LR can be just as bad honestly unless you spend big. It is a slightly more honest stone as Mintabie can just lie about its colour from the side.
Not to curse it, but the runner up stone doesn't look like the color goes too deep into the interior. You might only have that corner to play with.
I can see it at both ends of the piece so I still have hope.
Ah gotcha, didn't look like it on the video. Could only see the one corner with nice color, then the sand covering the other side.

Lol. Yeah the huge sand growth is minutes away from getting sliced away... Then I'll see what's going on in there. Vid probably just after Xmas.

You have a video of some of the stars of your personal collection?
I did do a favourites video at the end of the year (maybe the start) which I will update each year as a bit of a tradition.

@@nancycurtis3230 Fingers crossed for the whole world at this point... but mostly for my subscribers 😃
Its rather depressing that every day the amount of rough mintabie goes down. I really hope it's reopened for mining in the future!

That's a strange opal.
Lol yeah Mintabie can be a little odd. Fingers crossed next one is a winner...
