I do wonder what Tolkien would think of his work being adapted into fan fiction. Personally, I don't think he would dislike it, I think he would share the enthusiasm others have for it.
ro en he might have possibly been upset at parts that directly contradicted his lore, but he wrote and said many times that he wanted to restore a mythological world-building culture and can probably derive from that that he would love the idea of fanfics
Heliophage i really disagree. I think he would strongly dislike the changes DaC (for example) made in order to make it work for total war, but if somebody decided to write a 4th age book, or the things that Christopher had to add to fill in the gaps for unfinished tales and Silmarillion, and even other fanfics would be ok as long as they didn’t contradict him. What he did dislike was people mixing the Legendarium with the real world; for example LOTR themed weddings (despite the irony of Beren and Luthien on his and his wife’s tombstones) Ps for Galu if he reads this; i have no issue with any changes you and your team made; i just think JRRT would have.
Oh WoW i dont know if he hated war itself or if he hated glorification and sanitation of the dark side of war and battles (which Total War games do provide, so yeah, he would probably hate this game)
Imagine it: the warm and fuzzy climate of Dorwinion hangs on to you, the salty temperate breeze of the Rhunnic Sea blowing through your hair. You take a sip of fine vintage, home brewed, in your glorious seaside villa, servants tending to your needs, Vintner Guards standing vigil over your property. You see the sea below, and many cheerful elves celebrating yet another trivial holiday of theirs. The hills slowly slope downwards, past your villa, covered by a blanket of green and yellow and red trees, of every hue, only interrupted by cliffs of pure white chalk in ethereal karst formations. You look at the latest news around the east of middle earth, and find out that Forthwin and Nurwe, celebrated generals, have conquered Mistrand from the barbarians. Now this, this is the life.
"The moriquendi have spent thousands of years honing their skills with their pikes..." In the background: Moriquendi are facing dwarfs and turn around to get hit in the back.
I have read several fanfics in Russian about the Dorwinion, that's why I interested in history of Dorwinion and right now I am playing for Dorwinion. Thanks a lot for DAC and for the video itself.
My two favorite factions in Divide and Conquer. Breeland and Dorwinnion. I normally like the Medieval Kingdoms of man better anyways over elves and Dwarves. The elder scrolls Total war mod is amazing too. And don't even get me started on Rise of Mordor
For dorwinion units that have humans and elves in, if avaliable to the Ar-adûnâim it'd be cool if the elves were conspicuously absent for that faction ;)
Despite Dol Amroth being my favorite faction (because ofc it is), I think Dorwinion represents the best thing about DaC - it is still very Tolkien and yet something unique. And Dorwinion is damned fun to play as!
Love how you did that faction. I mod it myself so i can use both the later human and Elf rosters. So as it seems fitting to me that not everyone can get that Elvish armor and arms but the Northmen get more professional due to the rising threat and close cooperation with the elves. And dudes if you dislike something about how the DAC team did just mod it yourselves, Arachir made a excellent video on how to do it. It's a mod and everyone has different tastes. Always keep in mind none of us pay these fine gentlemen so we cant expect them to turn what they do for fun into what we want just "Because".
Hello Arachîr. Just a little curious: How many peoples of Middle Earth will be implemented in this Mod? Will the Drúedain of Drúadan Forest be included? It is mentioned somewhere in the Tolkien lore that they aided the Rohirrim in getting to Gondor in time. Think they can be implemented as a unit? Or a scripted event?
4 ปีที่แล้ว +1
They have been in the mod for about two years. :-) Mercs.
@ Ah. Sorry. I have not kept up with Third Age all that well, due to not having the base game or the mod. But I have always loved the Tolkien mythos. Is there a site that has the lore for all these factions? Or do you have to play the game for the flavor text on the Factions, and mercenaries?
A quick mod question, is it possible to get tauriel as a spawn in general after clearing a number of regions in the forest? Like rumil and orophin? And she could spawn in with a unit of hin-I-daur as her bodyguard, with her 2 units of something else? I think it would be a nice edition. Problem is tho... would it work? Because she is not male. I know discord is the place but I don't have it anymore.
I've always wondered - why a Vine-'Regent'? Is he holding the lands in trust for the Avari? Is he taking the place of the ruler of the people of the, ah, physical vines? If he's supposed to be the ruler, why not use "Vintner-Regnant" or something?
A regent is a person appointed to govern a state for the time being (pro tempore in Latin). In the video Galu says that the regent has been appointed to lead Dorwinion in the time of crisis, he is not a permanent leader or a monarch. Much like the dictators of ancient Rome, who had ultimate power in times of crisis, but would have to give up that power back to the senate once the crisis had passed.
@@Vampirewolfking Ah, I see. I must have missed that bit about the Vine-Regent being a temporary position. Still, Regent implies there is a real ruler that the regent is taking the place of, which as far as I can tell is not the case.
I wanna learn more about Loke-Khan Rhikour, he sounds badass, ruthless, clever yet benevolent to his people, and like a Easterling edition of Genghis Khan.
Question: isn't the Avari made up of 2 tribes? The Tatyar and the Lindai; and their first chieftains were Morwie and Nerwie (respectively).
4 ปีที่แล้ว +5
The tribes is only a reference to the three founding families of ALL elves. These "tribes" would go on to become the Vanyar, Noldor and Teleri. Morwe and Nurwe are the only two attested names we have of Avari elves.
Big fan of your work Galu, but I heard you're meant to use 'man' instead of 'human' when talking about the race of man in Tolkien's work. This is because 'human' has Latin origins whereas 'man' is old Germanic, which fits into Tolkien's world better. I saw this in a video by The Philosopher's Games (great Tolkien TH-cam creator) if you've heard of him.

That sounds like utter nonsense to me.

I saw you replied and deleted it. To explain myself further, neither latin nor germanic are present in Tolkien's mythos so why would one fit better than the other? "Fitting better" itself is just nonsense. They either fit or they don't . In this inctance neither 'human' nor 'man' works as the languages of Middle-earth do not include either of those words. So, given that neither word fits in the universe, what does it matter to use whichever one you want? If we are to get technical, 'man' also comes from Sanskrit or old germanic. So is Sanskrit more fitting than Latin....
@ isn't the common speech of ME (westron) which is derived from Adunaic meant to be modern day English, though? It is suggested by the authors of 'The Ring of Words: Tolkien and the Oxford English Dictionary' that he may have preferred 'man' to 'human' in his works because of the word's Germanic roots and his special interest in Germanic languages as a philoligist and many of the fictitious languages created being based on Germanic languages, such as Rohirric. 'Fits better' was a poor choice of words. I don't even know if Tolkien would have been against people using 'human' in reference to the races of men in his books, even he if he avoided the word himself.
7:23 well, they learned and discovered clearly, that’s like saying how did we think of weapons. There’s a lot of dangerous shit around but you telling me they never used even spears or clubs before this point?

Real world Dorwinion is Southeastern Bulgaria. Fits really good.
You can do that in real life

@@TheZestyCar , I have already chosen the Northman, but I have the saves, so may be I will try playing for Elves later
Yes! Yes. I knew it. I was betting this video would be either Dorwinion or the Breeland. I'm so happy. I await the Breeland video.

Amazing video on my favourite faction! I love how much more flare it has now!!
