I have new Amal carbs on my Bonneville and found the same adjustment on pilots - a turn and a bit. Must be the standard on new carbs. Interesting… thanks for your insight.
I didn't in this case, but it's always a good idea to do so. It's not so much that they're not already annealed, it's more that they've often been sitting on a shelf in the stores for so long the copper's gone hard.

In retrospect I think someone had maybe had a go at adjusting them, which is why they were so far out.
Did you anneal the new copper oil pressure switch gasket? I hear that they often don't come pre-annealed now.
