I once had that horsehoe crab salad in Surat Thani. It was soooooooooo delicious, I never had this before. And since then I never found a restaurant that had this on the menu. Next time when visiting Krabi, I definitely will go to this restaurant. Thank you for sharing.
krabi is one of the region in southern thailand that has a big muslim population. the yam stem is also eaten by the malaysian villagers and they call it "batang keladi". you can try banana stem which has a spongy texture as the yam stem. such a unique and beautiful presentation of the salad using a horseshoe crab as a garnishment.

+Ahmed Salim You don't actually eat the horseshoe crab itself but the Roe, which are very different to cavier etc. Part of this will be due to the fact they aren't crustaceans but are related to Arachnids so the eggs will taste different.
+alan sloan Well technically both crustaceans and arachnids are both arthropods which have similar muscle structure inside the exoskeleton. I wasn't aware you couldn't eat the flesh though. Is it because there is too little or is there something wrong with it? Perhaps it has something to do with their blood which has special properties.
Its so sad to see such a marvelous creature get eaten like this. For those who didn't know, Horseshoe Crab is a living fossil, they have been existing since 450 million years ago. Other than that, their blue blood, is very useful for detection of bacterial. It used in frequently of the medical application. We only extract minimum amount of blood and release them back to sea. Most crab is survived in this process. But its sad to see they get eaten like this for few hundred baht.

yeah . it's Green Taro or Giant Elephants Ears my local called it Born or บอน in Thai language (no meaning of it word it's named from it's look) i it has 2 majority type can be found widely other Born บอน is poisoned Born if u ate this Born it will cause a itchy very itchy in Throat and digest this type of Born or poisoned Born has similar look but has greener leaf and thick leaf but it can be eat if boil it with long and high heat . the great thing about this Aorbip ออดิบ or this Green Taro leaf is it can absorbs a lot of taste and water so it's really great with soup .
