I have also received my P2 Prince Of Wales with sound and smoke generator am really pleased with it. This is probably the best review video of this loco that I have seen = well done and thanks
Fantastic made up you like the loco and wow thank you so much i know my sound isnt the best at times on this review but was just so exited to get the model run it etc not sure if its the best but thank you so so much for thinking so comments like this mean the world to me! Enjoy your loco and many years of running it Thanks for watching! 😊
Glad you enjoyed the video. 😂😂😂😂 i completely forgot where i had left them as was too exited to get the loco on the track shall we say they were carefully craned up their then later replaced by the same careful crane aka my hand🤣 Thanks for watching😊
Hi, that model looks very nice, I’m not sure about the plastic valve gear in the black finish, that aside it looks very nice especially with the push in loco to tender connector, if the 3rd run of the W1 hush hush model had the smoke generator I would think about getting one, maybe I will wait to see how the smoke generators hold up after a lot of use, having had some issues with Hornby Locos I would hate to put my self in a situation where you won’t get any help with your expensive investment, enjoy your model and thanks for sharing.
I agree the valve gear isnt the best looking as a display piece but not too bad when running i completely understand that while its good value for money price wise it is still a lot of money for the one locomotive. I am hoping with it being water and cold with no heat it wont damage like say the seuth generators may without oil and burning out warping the loco plastic. On one tank of water though i had over 20 mins running time so fantastic in that way. Thank you for the kind words and enjoying the review and some really good points to think about and consider before buying a loco like this! Thanks for watching!😊
@@Themodelrailer You are welcome, some call having a not so positive view on Hornby products is Hornby bashing, for those who have never had issues I say well done, when you do you will find out have negative they are once they have your money, the Hornby of old is dead and gone! I wish all modellers the very best of luck with their Hornby purchases because you will need it, most people bite the bullet and accept that they are on their own, Hornby never invest enough money into their products that’s why they will let you down and then they will desert you, there should be a buyer beware warning on the products they sell. Just my opinion.
Wow it does sound like you have had a bad experience with them and for that i completely understand what you mean and i do feel for those who have had a bad experience as wish it was the other way round i do agree with the products pricing will keep my fingers crossed for this model then
I’ve never had issues with Hornby support, always always been great. My SNG stopped working, sent it back, 3 weeks later returned all working, postage covered as well. I’ve had a couple of issues with hm7000 decoders and again sorted no problems. I tend to buy allot of Hornby products and bar these two issues I’ve not had any problems, now for the love child of the hobby, my AS class 37 went back, my iia hoppers had to be butchered to go round 2nd radius curves (that’s a how to on their website ), another set of wagons had bowed solbars, my 92 the pantographs are intermittent, you can hear the gears (it’s going back), don’t even get me started on the 55. Hornby do get a bashing whilst others get away with it
Thank you and made up you enjoyed the video it is a amazing loco and certainly doesnt do it justice in the video but for me worth every penny this one! Thanks for watching😊
Iv got the older version of this loco. They are a great looking loco . The problem with the loco for me is the black plastic valve gear i have considered painting the black plastic silver. I really think Hornby should have addressed this issue. Because the new loco is not cheap.
I do agree the little things like that can make a huge difference to a loco especially with technologies now and how simple it seems to do those things! I was considering doing a video of painting a interior to enhance it if that may be of interest to you would love to know your thoughts on that too please? Thanks for watching😊
Ahhh well if you check out my follow up video for the p2 there is a way to turn the steam off using function 24 and i show this in that video if you would like to check it out😊 Thanks for watching😊

Hi there and thank you so much for the kind words! There are locos with smoke you can run on dc you just have to find the right ones to do so i did fit a Seth to a dc loco and just need it to run a certain speed to kick into life! If im honest not my best review as the sound quality wasnt as good as normal but was too exited to film and use the model but again thank you for the kind words! Just checked you channel out and subscribed to yours too you have a amazing layout there and what is it you use to record pov running round the layout? Thanks for watching!😊 Kevin
@@Themodelrailer Hi Kevin. Thank you for your nice comment buddy. Yeah would love a steamer, got a generator on my old Princess but you have to run it run round a million miles an hour. I use my phone for normal vidio. For the ride on I use a sport DV, it's mp4 but no IF. Got it from amazon. Think it was about £40. Thanks again Kevin. ....Pete....
Anytime and great thank you will look out for one! And yes that bit is a pain but if you get a slower runner like say the 42xx which runs slow but amazingly well can be done too!
YESSSSSS! Ive been wondering when youd get one, and you finally did! I think this is an aqesome move by hornby - its like the old live steam, but better and not so expensive! Great video man, and im so so so so so so so happy for you, i really hope i get one of these at some point! My one question is this - does the smoke smell at all, and can you get a non sound version? I only do dc running, so i would have to try and get a bluetooth hm decoder and controller 😅
Thank you!!!!! Your first word was my reaction when i got it been saving since the beginning of the year for this model the video honestly doesn’t do it full justice it’s an amazing loco!! Ok so your questions!!!! 1 as its water there is no smell at all😁 2 i don’t believe you can get a none sound version as the smoke only works with sound on. 3 you don’t need to worry about the decoder as everything is already fitted and all you need is the transformer and connector to the track to give power (yes hornby/shops do these) so you dont need a dcc controller as the train just need the power for bluetooth and the app then away you go!! Hope this helps you out i so so hope you are able to get one but dont forget there are supposed to be more released towards the end of the year another p2 flying scotsman and a black 5! Plenty more chance to pick one up again thank you for your super kind words as always and Thanks for watching!😊🚂🚂
@Themodelrailer thanks so much man... I may have to save and maybe get a black 5 or, I think they're planning an a4, which I'm an absolute sucker for! So yeah, I'd love to get one and thanks for the advice!
Funny you should say that as there was a old tri ang pannier tank that took oil like that was amazing to see would love to get it if its still their to compare then to now! Thanks for watching😊
This works with the hornby app and is really easy to use and on the app you can change to dcc without the app so if its a function based controller i would say it should work although i haven’t tried it myself that way yet. Hope this helps and Thanks for watching😊
@@Der_Zwergen_Kaschperle brilliant im sure then if you got one from a model shop they would be able to change it to that way of running for you so you can use your system!
Hornby are trying with their smoke generator. The sound is still like 2 bits of sandpaper and too condensed/compressed for me. Good quality build tho. Nice one mate
It does work well i am going to use it again for a running session for this week as it was running out didnt do proper justice to how much smoke it does put out bit ha it running a good 20-25 miniute i do think it sounds better but agree still not their in their series on tv they showed a guy recording live sounds so not sure why the still sound so digital though. Glad you enjoyed the video and Thanks for watching😊
You said that this loco is being restored, it's not, it's a complete new build by the same people who built the Tornado with some parts that was designed for the Tornado including the tender to be used on the Prince of Wales.
Why on earth did i say that😅 I know its being built its the first since tornado hornbys original idea was to release this model along with the loco going back into service! Oh dear daft thing haha must have missed it out during editing or i would have corrected it whoops hey thanks for letting me know and correcting it! Thanks for watching😊
@Themodelrailer yeah it would be. It was mentioned in a video here on TH-cam where they was showing progress of the P2 loco and with the release of the Hornby's loco the same time. At least keeps em busy for the next few years! Also mentioned in that video was moving to a larger premises across the tracks in Darlington, and having a new turntable built so they can service Tornado and the upcoming P2 as well as any other steam locos.
Hi and made up you enjoyed watching the loco i just used water from a bottle to hopefully avoid any additives that may be in normal tap water i checked the instructions and just says water but may try de-ionised to see if its any better for the loco and generator. Thanks for watching😊
Any sort of household steamer or water vaporizer will tell you to avoid using tap water or even bottled water; instead use distilled water to avoid mineral build-up and eventual failure. Hornby should have mentioned this.
I have sent a few questions off to hornby about this locomotive including one about which type of water is best to use so as soon as i hear back will let everyone know😊
Oooo thats a really good point i haven’t tried with coaches yet so i will do that as have a update from hornby to report with the loco so will put that into this weeks video! I would point out that if you look at old movies of steam locos being properly fired, the exhaust out the stack is mostly steam, dissipating rapidly, and when running flat, there is little visible exhaust. The huge plumes of black smoke, especially in current U.S. steam operations, are done for the benefit of the railfan/photographer. Now, when working a steep bank ("grade" to the U.S. readers) with the loco pulling hard, there will be significant smoke, but there isn't a model built that can replicate that.
