      It's fascinating to me how. People who are good at one thing seem to have another missing part. It's like the really good mechanic who can't drive a race car. Or the really smart mathematician who can't teach a college class. Or the number one sales person in a car dealership that no one likes who works there.

    I also got the d780 as my main camera for weddings, after selling the d5. Now my wedding set up is d780 with Nikkor 24-70 2.8 and z6 with Tamron 70-200 2.8. The main reason for me was the dual card slot.

    I still remember the days when you waited 10 seconds for a camera to boot, and they used too much power to just leave on. I started shooting with a JVC camcorder because it had a great autofocus, and sleep mode. Close screen, sleep, open, take photo. Oh, things have changed. Great video, to the point, love that.

    Finally a wedding pros perspective! Thanks dude! Nice to hear instead of all the other “reviews” lamenting it being like a z6 therefore may as well buy a z6. Amazing how so many reviewers aren’t actual pro shooters and thus don’t see the real life draw of all day battery life, two card slots, solid low light focusing and the no lag optical viewfinder for those unpredictable wedding day moments that could otherwise be missed on a mirrorless with their EVF and second long wake up time 🤘🏼

    To me the D850 isn’t a wedding camera. It’s a high resolution camera ment for landscaping, model work, high resolution photography. The D780 on the other hand has a fully silent shutter with face tracking and is a perfect wedding camera that doesn’t require extreme resolution. The Nikon D6 is also a great wedding camera but on the heavier side.

      @Man in Dandism There is work going on with sensors and processors to get to the point where crop sensor and micro four thirds cameras have better to even good low light capability, but, then of course the full frame camera sensor and processor combinations will be even better yet. It appears to me that the megapixels and low light capability of the of the D5 and 1Dx Mark II were "good enough" for practical indoor sports use. If crop sensor and even crazy to say micro four thirds with the future mythical OMsystem "WOW" camera can reach that level of low light capability with D500 or dare I say Olympus M1 Mark II level autofocus, with planes, trains, and automobile tracking, with GH5 level video, then that camera. Will. Take. Over. The. World.

    Since you use a D850 most of the time, I'm curious how you found the autofocus through the viewfinder. Nikon is advertising the "D5 algorithm" in the D780 even though it has the older AF module (and coverage) of the D750, and I'm wondering how you think the viewfinder AF compares to the D850, which has both the bigger coverage area and the D5 generation algorithm. Thoughts on AF through the OVF? Also, if you like the 85 f/1.4g, why not use it on the adapter with the Z6?

    • @TaylorJacksonPhoto

      Matthew Wells one card slot keeps me from using the Z series on a wedding day. AF will need proper full day in the field testing before I can comment on it. Overall I was happy with AF on my D750 so I couldn’t see it being worse

      Yah I know. Was really hoping for IBIS in this body. D6 rumours seemed promising, but latest ones don't mention it, so I'm not too hopeful since it's not a feature pros on that camera would probably be after. Extra durability in the flagship will always win, and it'll be impressive if they could do that with IBIS

A friend told me that the 70-200 Tamron won't work on the Z 6II and that the Z6II is not good for low light. I got a recommendation for D780. I was thinking of going with a Z6 until this D780 camera came out. Already own a D750 which performs great for photos. Video was its only problem. But not now with D780 body size, ideal for hybrid shooting and better live autofocus. I have a Canon 80D which does not have inbody stabilization, so I use a monopod at events to stabilize. Could do that with D780 if doing video, plus VR lenses. Just a thought. May sell the Canon 80D perhaps to get 4K in the Nikon, and higher quality video.

      I'm a D750 hybrid shooter as well. I'm OK with the video AF if nothing is moving out of the focal plane. I set up BB focus for both stills and video so I'm using the same buttons when I switch back and forth. The D780 appeals to me more than the Z6 because it's stills AF is going to be good. Only issues I have is the cost (although I think it'll come down fast) and the second card not backing up video.

    • @adrianvanleeuwen
      @adrianvanleeuwen 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@markshirley01 For vlogging with no moving subject my D750 is okay in manual focus, however I had problem at reception in autofucus, that the focus in live view kept hunting in and out (manual focus would been better) and bride complained. The D780 or Z6 would solve this problem. I am in Canada, and the price is almost $3000 for D780 body as USD is worth 30 percent more than Canadian. So yes, waiting a few months for price to come down, or maybe get a Z6. I have Canon 80D for now for video. Pros always need 2 cameras (one for backup or video), so it will be Z6 or D780 when price is right.

    After another youtube person mentioned wobbling in the video on some Canon cameras and the Rf cameras need an adapter for older glass, that stopped me there. Sony does have third party lenses, but I dic hear at times the buffer is slower.
    Im going from DX to FX. i do have one full frame lens. The Z mount requires adapter for F mount snd uses XQD cards. sane with D6.
    after watching this video and Ken Rockwell’s review of the d780, I like what i gear. Two Sd cards and the battery lift is phenomenal in the D780. F mount glass can be used. Tamron & Sigma lenses too.

    Yup, I think the choices are clear. If you want a beast of a camera that can autofocus down to -4 to -5 EV (or even lower) then get the D780. If you are more of a hybrid shooter (both photos and videos) then get the Z6. I don't see a reason to recommend a D750 in 2020 except if your only concern is the price. I'm also glad Nikon got rid of the pop up flash. No need for it for several reasons a) it is relatively weak b) hard to bounce the flash especially to the side c) on camera flash is just not ideal. I'll take better weather sealing over pop up flash any day.

In my opinion, if you're serious about video, the Z 6 has a better form factor for video, but I'd prefer the form factor of the D780 because I pretty much only take pictures.

    I’m new to the commercial photographing world, who just started being a bridal photographer assistant and considering buying a “professional” camera as an investment. I wanted to find a camera which is modern enough (raw files & focusing) for the work and also old school (using old lens and manual focusing) for the fun, is d780 still a good choice in 2024? Thx!

    Thank you for your video about your experience so far with the D780! Did you do any stills shooting with the LCD screen? I'm curious about your experience with that, as one feature I like on mirrorless is being able to use a silent shutter (especially during the ceremony of a wedding, or during performances where shutter noise would be too intrusive).

    Hi, fantastic down to earth approach as usual. Just a query, I've watched several of your videos now and you seem to put a lot of emphasis on changing the white balance througout the day. Usually, this is the only thing I leave on Auto A on my Nikon's (one less thing to worry about) and then adjust in Lightroom afterwards. My logic behind it, is the fact the camera would only be post processing the original Raw image data in camera anyway. Is my logic wrong, or have I missed the point some where in my photo skills? Or does it just come down to personal preference?

    • @TaylorJacksonPhoto
      @TaylorJacksonPhoto  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Harvy Mckiernan setting white balance manually just speeds up post production. For video it is really important though as you’re pretty much just editing a jpg and can’t change the white balance nearly as well

    I'm studying the possibilties of the D780 vs Z6ii before making a choice... you talked about the possibility to switch easily and instantaniously into video mode... but ... how do you compensate the given fps / Shutter speed ratio when shooting video ? still closing down the aperture and reminding the settings ? so far I have to use ND filters to shoot video, has the D780 got a new feature in that regard ?
    Many Thanks and greets from Hamburg-Germany,
