That's totally exagerated. I ran an ebay brushed (conventional) 16 inch fan in my attic for 6 years. It kicks on when it's over 100 degrees,; so pretty much all summer in hot kansas. These are brushless so much less friction and easier start. My 2008 Volvo has 264k miles and my 2003 Volvo has 244k miles; both on original factory fans.

I read that the fan is suppose to start and not stop. Basically for the longevity of the fan. Am I wrong in assume this?
