I've covered a couple of early demo builds of Decimate Drive previously, but the full game has just been released. This is a condensed playthrough with my favorite levels and all of the narrative stuff.
How much cortisol does your body release when you play this game? You have to look over your shoulder and behind you constantly, or else you might be crushed. You are being hunted relentlessly! This game might be a danger to one's health 😮
Did you ever watch the Stephen King movie Maximum Overdrive? Cars come to life and attack people just like this. It's a fun watch if you don't mind older movies.
What an interesting idea. And it works surprisingly well: the cars have variety in speed, turning, plowing power, control and you even get unique ones like a cop car helping you, one with waste that messes with your vision and one that is intimidatingly on fire. There is...a lot you can do with this kinda silly concept. And damn is the adrenaline rush strong when you barely dodge a car or two trucks crash in front of you barely missing you.
That was a cool bit, yeah. They're trying to ram the other cars away from you, but they'll kill you just as dead if you get in front of them by accident.
The car bullfighting bits were really tense. I think the game would have been a shade better had they dropped the psychological horror plot and had kept it as simple as a person trying to make their way home at night with all the cars going Maximum Overdrive on them.
Yeah that plot had no business being there. Maybe if it was more subtle and actually tied to what was happening with the sentient cars and stuff. Also, having your character monologue in a horror game is almost always going to have a crappy effect.
This is the note Frank sent the main character: "Understand I had no choice. *Andrea* (his daughter) already lost her mother and now she has to fight the same disease. She can't do it on her own. "You know how to take care of her and she likes [you]. I have to keep working [so I] can get her medication. "I know you will do the right thing. If not, then *Jose* and your family will pay for it." -Frank.
Honestly what an abysmal story for an otherwise interesting gameplay mechanic. A man kidnaps and blackmails a nurse to take care of his terminally sick daughter, and the nurse just slits the innocent kid's wrists? Yeah that's something that will get you haunted by murder cars.
I know what you mean. The whole time I was watching this, the "plot" felt totally at odds with the gameplay. Like someone accidentally spliced subtitles from a totally different project into this one. What's sad is that both this story and this gameplay are truly solid, but they have nothing to do with each other and one could replace the subtitles with literally anything. Could be a fun idea for a fan mod to change the story though...
I don't drive, but I've seen and heard a lot of stories about people driving in the snow. These cars are better than your average snow driver. Also, nice touch with the music.
Kinda wish it was a bit longer and had a different story, but all in all, seems like an amazingly tense experience! I like the gimmicks like the references between vehicles and the cop car helping you,I’m telling you the dev(s) could do a whole lot more with this concept, imagine something like a bulldozer that’s slow but cannot be stopped,a tanker truck that explodes if it crashes too much, something like that would be nice for a extra Aniston or even a sequel
The game still has it. The biting cold, the dark, the fact the player leaves behind a bloodstain, the unstable breathing, it capture the essence of a nightmare, an utterly unfair situation that you can't escape from, mixed with false hope. Strictly speaking, it didn't even need a plot, could have just been a person walking to their bedroom, lying down, and finding themselves being chased by cars in the snow, but I will kudos the attempt and I think the plot as given is a good way to apply some meaning to the act of being chased by evil cars. The showpieces are great, the tension is surreal, the burning car has burned itself into my memory. I would even compare it to Silent Hill Shattered Memories, in how our protagonist is alone at night in the freezing cold, and that feeling of utter isolation but instead of being chased by a girl's manifested electra complex, it's a Buick. So the plot, as I get it, is akin to an actual problem- nurse kidnappings. Patient care is hard, expensive, and family members feel justified in going to extremes for their loved ones. There was an infamous case about the Spanish Flu outbreak where several nurses found themselves kidnapped to care for bedridden people dying of this deadly precursor to Covid, and with hospitals packed, some shotgun healthcare plans were enacted. The fear is of course, what happens when Lil Curly sue or Grandma Jenkins dies? There's only so much a single nurse can do, and there's the fear that after a long, painful struggle, they'll die and take out their anguish on the nurse, who didn't choose to be there. The gist here is Crazy man has a child dying of cancer, blackmails the nurse to provide free care, then outright kidnaps her to an old hotel. She kills his kid after getting sick of it all, and either he shoots her or knocks her out, puts her in his trunk, then drives out to try and hide her body. The snow and ice however, make driving treacherous and he gets into a car accident, which frees her and potentially kills him. Because of the crash, or him beating her unconscious, she's got memory issues, and the last thing she remembers was the day she was kidnapped, but starts to fill in the gaps. The night is a mix of her wandering aimlessly with a concussion on unsafe roads, and hallucinating/dreaming. The Cars are a kind of guilt metaphor, and an embodiment of Frank's violence- a savage, brute force that can't be reasoned with, only avoided. She wants something to save her, but no one can- the police car is a hope spot. She's heavily injured, bleeding out, and getting tired. It's nigh endless fever dream, just as in the demos. The final choice is a dream of sorts, but also her being very close to death- one way has her following Frank into the afterlife with some hellish overtones choosing a path of vengeance, while the other has her choose to not give up. Morning rises, its' easier to see, and be seen, and she's found by a police car. He's patching her up, and she looks to be saved. The mirror in the car however, suggests several things, but is left vague to interpretation. You see a large truck coming that way...is it Frank, eager to finish the job? Is it another living car, intent on murder? Or is it just a passing car, but after the nightmares she's had, quite stressful to see. Ultimately, it's probably just a metaphor for the consequences that remain to follow her. Even once she recovers, she will have to answer for what she's done, for Andrea, and even for Frank, even if its just in her own conscience.
Am I the only one who thinks the whole psychological horror story was just... out of place? The whole thing just seemed hard to follow, and detached and unrelated to the gameplay. Other than the flashbacks, nothing really involves whatevers going on.
Honestly, I could go for an expanded sequel of this with one caveat. That there's no debate on whether this is happening in the protag's head or not and the cars really ARE rising up against humanity. There can still be drama between survivors like what went down between Frank and the MC, but it should be secondary to the sheer enormity of the global change in situation that'd arise from every motor vehicle on Earth becoming maliciously sentient. Well, okay, maybe not ALL vehicles. Sentient, yes, but not all evil. Could be that folks who looked after their rides particularly well might be able to bond with theirs like a more benevolent take on Christine, plus cop cars and other emergency service vehicles might remember what they used to do and keep living their old "lives" in a way. This is all just spitballing, anyway. I just think it'd be neat to expand on the concept. Being a fan of the Stephen King story that probably had a hand in inspiring this doesn't hurt my enthusiasm, either.
Haven't got too far in the playthrough (thought I'd check the comments to see if anyone knew who these named people were, and what they were doing), but someone up above mentioned an ice cream van playing Daisy Bell ('a bicycle made for two'), and that was what HAL sang when he was losing his mind in the Kubrick movie!
Idk bout you guys, but as a teen that knows Daisy Bell (the music that was played as the Ice cream truck theme) and it's history with the game 'Gorilla Tag'? Dang...some next level creepy stuff right there.
Daisy Bell is also the song the evil computer in 2001: A Space Odyssey sings when it has brain damage. Perhaps there is a 'machines killing humans' theme going on? But probably reading too much into it.
Yeah this game definitely seems like it would've been far more fun if not for the bland, kinda forced backstory. If they had just kept it as simple as "dodge cars and explore" I could see it being a lot more interesting. They clearly had the idea to use the environment to keep the gameplay fresh, but they never really developed it beyond "there are two holes you can get cars to run into". Maybe the backstory would've been more interesting if it had anything to do with the actual gameplay premise, or if it was communicated in any way other than the main character just exposition dumping on us.
One of my favorite things to do in Saints Row 2 was turn on the killer cars cheat and run around trying to avoid them as much as possible. Never thought someone would make a whole game like that! 😆
They had a good concept but I feel like they've dropped the ball with this update and the demo was more solid. The whole plot and ending. It doesn't really add anything to the concept of "be a dude trying to escape killer cars", it also doesn't feel very relevant to anything going on and the game wouldn't be anything less without it. Honestly, I keep seeing the same thing happening over and over. The modern game developer is forever cursed to make a simple enjoyable concept and then feel like they need to tack some deep plot to it rather than focusing on expanding the game further. It keeps happening and I'm pretty frickin tired of it.
I did not understand the plot. So MC was taking care of some dudes named Frank ill wife named Andrea and had a brother named Jose. Then he MC killed Andrea for some reason and Frank tried to kill him for it? But MC references something Frank did to him and his brother before that all happened? No idea what was happening, but killer cars are cool
Based on the endings, it appears the protagonist is hallucinating because of some condition that requires medication, and the endings seem to be that she either goes on a rampage of her own or gets picked up by cops.
From what im seeing there’s 4 characters Main protagonist is a female, her husband Jose, Frank (possibly a kidnapper, the guy holding the main protagonist hostage, or the guy the main character is cheating with?), and Frank’s daughter who I assume is dead, murdered by the main protagonist from what I understand As for what the story is I have no damm clue
So from what I can determine at this point, here's my theories; Ending 1 - The Protagonist decides that it's officially time for Frank to die for killing her family - Apparently since Andrea had that incurable disease, Frank decided to kill her as to not have to deal with her anymore and this is the Protagonist taking her revenge for her dead daughter At the same time though, I kind of feel like Frank got ahold of a spell book of some sort to cause the vehicles to get possessed and to stop the Protagonist from doing what's right because didn't anyone notice that that Mining Truck DID NOT attack Frank whatsoever and it kept sitting there at the entrance to the tunnel like as if it's awaiting its Master's orders? Ending 2 - The Protagonist decided to not even bother trying to help Frank anymore and just go home, but little does she know is that Frank may strike again and this time he may end up killing the Protagonist? After all, he did kidnap her to begin with. What's also scary about this ending is that once word of him committing his crimes gets to the police, all hell may break loose. . .
The part where a litteral hospital truck whatever its name is, one of the most non scary things ever (if you dont take in consideration psychopatic killer doctors in horror movies) littarily just ran at you full speed while on it was written "out for blood" is more scary than a car with a litteral leaf saw in front of it. Or when the ice cream truck tried raming you down while instead of singing something like pop goes the weasel or the ice cream jingle it plays one of the most scariest songs ever from the internet, daisy bell
After "Rustbucket revenge", I fell in love with car horror! Also, this game release out this year... I really want a horror game with similar content to be released on Android! Even if it's low-poly! Although it will also have its own charisma, even in VHS format!!🤤😍
when the cars stopedd after crashing with a wall and taking their time to go back, I expected a man in an elegant suit to get out and start shooting the protagonist like a gangster, especially those moments where hotline miami-like music was playing in the background.
Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but- Did Frank only THREATEN Jose and his Wife, or was he actually acting against him? Like, I will not deny, Frank is an asshole through and through. But the Protagonist slit his daughter's fucking wrists. I know she was in horrible pain, and I know that she just wanted her friend to not longer suffer, and there's ways that it can be handled but just picking up a fucking combat knife and slitting her wrists isn't cool dog. Then again, maybe Frank locked the protag in the basement and demanded she treat his ailing wife. Either way, nobody's hands are clean in this city.
really really effective design and gameplay, incredibly impressive. i dont think the plot added anything at all, they should just take it out, the gameplay and setting stand completely on their own. also the title doesnt make any sense, "decimate" means "to kill every tenth member of a group", it's not grammatically or thematically appropriate there
Ah, a game especially terrifying to me, someone who's already really nervous around cars/traffic. :) Too bad the story is kinda 'eh'... I also wish the cars started to look progressively more fucked up and gnarly -- like that scene in Christine where the front-end gets all mangled and looks like snarled teeth. The burning cop car was kinda what I was hoping for, but you only see it in one zone
It's sad that such a great game has a story with absolutely nothing that's related to the gameplay. If the devs wanted to take the Silent Hill Route (lol, driving pun), then they could have correlated the killer cars and pay-phones to the sort of dream logic of someone who committed a hit an run and deliberately avoided alerting the authorities in time to avoid incriminating themselves. Instead, they searched for one of the last remaining public telephones to make the call anonymously, which took so long that the authorities could not reach the victim in time. THAT would have made more sense IMHO.
So....let me see if I have this straight. Our protag was asked by a guy named frank to watch over his daughter while he worked to earn money for a life saving medication. Our protag killed his child. And frank had her kidnapped for doing so...? And frank is supposed to be the *bad guy*?
under threat of being murdered by frank, been piecing this together over a few watches but i got a general idea now: protag is a nurse(or doctor) and married jose protag had been caring for andrea while andrea was in hospital andrea checked out of the hospital because they had done all they could for her condition(? maybe? mentioned as fatal to andrea's mother but vague if it was terminal illness or just aggressive and likely fatal illness) frank copes badly and abducts protag to prolong andrea's life (staving off the inevitable if terminal and denying andrea the right to die on her own terms, or holding out for a tiny flicker of hope if just aggressive and likely fatal) frank threatens to murder protag and jose if protag can't keep andrea alive andrea is a noncharacter at this point (by narrative or illness idk) protag makes questionable choices to end the situation (i don't why andrea died either, maybe mercy maybe distraction maybe sleep deprivation from stress) shit hits fan and protag makes a run for it ending choices may be whether protag goes for a frank kill to remove the frank issue or just bails and gets picked up by the cops (after having been probably missing for a while by that point)

That sounds like something out of Top Gear or Grand Tour episode

Frankly, I think a more “Christine” approach would have suited it better too, have the cars just be old, broken, and full of malice
I agree. Trying to dodge the cars was quite intense all by itself.

Based on the endings, it appears the protagonist is hallucinating because of some condition that requires medication, and the endings seem to be that she either goes on a rampage of her own or gets picked up by cops.

Still confused about the Lamborghini Countach in there, but its a funny kinda confused
Ive seen more on point dodges here than 4 years of Smash Evo tournament matches combined! 😆 🤣
This is such a cool game, thanks for sharing
RIP police guy
We will all remember you for trying to stop the killer cars
It would be even creepier if at 17:30 a large ship suddenly crashed into the side from the darkness
That Icecream truck must have some excellent tires
I have dreams like this sometimes. But I'm driving.
Funny game idea: make the Ferrari the fastest car in the game when April fools come, the devs really need to do that
So it's Twisted Metal? If that name were not already taken, they surely would have.
Yeah I guess most of the best names are already taken - Carmageddon woulda been a good name for it too!
no, twisted metal is a pvp vehicle fighting game
08:27 A cover of the French weekly "L'Express"? That was... Strange.
Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but-
Did Frank only THREATEN Jose and his Wife, or was he actually acting against him? Like, I will not deny, Frank is an asshole through and through.
But the Protagonist slit his daughter's fucking wrists. I know she was in horrible pain, and I know that she just wanted her friend to not longer suffer, and there's ways that it can be handled but just picking up a fucking combat knife and slitting her wrists isn't cool dog.
Then again, maybe Frank locked the protag in the basement and demanded she treat his ailing wife. Either way, nobody's hands are clean in this city.
frank's daughter, i picked up that much in the confusing plot
frank's wife had already died
right sorry, his daughter@@prcervi
Finally. We can play as the NPCs in gta
That music at the start just screams silent hill.
Vehicles with a Death Wish?
Ummmm Christine Movie vibes anyone ;)
WHO MADE WHO
WHO MADE YOU
When a petrolhead ends up in Silent Hill...
what is the band that plays in free candy van?
really really effective design and gameplay, incredibly impressive. i dont think the plot added anything at all, they should just take it out, the gameplay and setting stand completely on their own. also the title doesnt make any sense, "decimate" means "to kill every tenth member of a group", it's not grammatically or thematically appropriate there
Oh God, I see what you've done for these people,
please do this for us.
Me gustan tu videos un saludo
5:29 What is the name of this music?
Astrosmash by Chamomile
@@hamannss3550 Thank you!
Makes me think of death race 2000
Christine's big family.
I used to have nightmares like this, it's not fun!! Awesome game!! Very adrenaline pumping, the story kinda "meeh"
Lol human eating cars is a Monty Python skit
I think ice cream truck is my favorite
Ah, a game especially terrifying to me, someone who's already really nervous around cars/traffic. :) Too bad the story is kinda 'eh'... I also wish the cars started to look progressively more fucked up and gnarly -- like that scene in Christine where the front-end gets all mangled and looks like snarled teeth. The burning cop car was kinda what I was hoping for, but you only see it in one zone
I spent 50k on these cars 😔
If you know you know
Don't you wish your car could drive this well in the snow?
Plot twist, we're the NPC in GTA
Has anyone figured out the story yet?
This must be what it's like for a ped in Carmageddon! Would be better without the lacklustre narrative though.
I couldn't really grasp the plot 😢
When it arrived.
kind of remind me of "Maximum Overdrive"
Someone can make a resume of it, didn't undertand the relatioships from the flashbacks... I'm laze and it's night time already lol
I’m super confused on the plot
Frank threatened the main character's husband, Jose, if she didn't take care of Andrea. Two wrongs don't make a right.
under threat of being murdered by frank, been piecing this together over a few watches but i got a general idea now:
protag is a nurse(or doctor) and married jose
protag had been caring for andrea while andrea was in hospital
andrea checked out of the hospital because they had done all they could for her condition(? maybe? mentioned as fatal to andrea's mother but vague if it was terminal illness or just aggressive and likely fatal illness)
frank copes badly and abducts protag to prolong andrea's life (staving off the inevitable if terminal and denying andrea the right to die on her own terms, or holding out for a tiny flicker of hope if just aggressive and likely fatal)
frank threatens to murder protag and jose if protag can't keep andrea alive
andrea is a noncharacter at this point (by narrative or illness idk)
protag makes questionable choices to end the situation (i don't why andrea died either, maybe mercy maybe distraction maybe sleep deprivation from stress)
shit hits fan and protag makes a run for it
ending choices may be whether protag goes for a frank kill to remove the frank issue or just bails and gets picked up by the cops (after having been probably missing for a while by that point)
