@@raghe9456 I think also due to it being the original Bloc Party/Union - with no Matt/Gordon around in the band anymore it's kind of not the same Bloc anymore I guess. I've seen the new Bloc lineup live and really enjoyed it - but I'd sure as hell love to see the original lineup back at some point.
I've probably watched this video hundreds of times, I love this version. The instrumental goes on for a while so you'd expect that when the vocals come in they would be delivered in a way that expressed some pent up emotion - but Kele just speaks them in way that comes across as completely detached, which is so appropriate for the subject matter of the song and ultimately makes it more emotionally impactful for the listener, not less. Sounds like the lyrics are a little different, too. This is what I'm hearing, starting at 2:12 - "And we sit, and we sigh, and nothing gets said, another day, another day, and nothing happens either way, it's alright, it's alright, it's alright, it's all wrong, it's alright, it's alright, it's alright" Bloc Party is such a special band.
Still listen to this version every few days. Reminds me of when Bloc Party were good. They are just not the same without Gordon and Matt. I think I prefer Novacub now.
„This is a song about hating your jaw“ „This is a song about hating the jar“ „This is a song about hating your jog“ „This is a song about hating to jog“
Whoever it was, even if it was just "some suit" or a "producer," whoever it was that encouraged them to work on this until it became what we have on the record was very smart and thoughtful to do so. The album version is (I think) one of their best songs.
wow. thank you TH-cam. This appeared on my mix - and I've never heard it. It's almost jazzy in a sense. The guitar does it's own thing, so does the drums. Very uncut, very nice.
We walk and we talk, but nothing gets said Another day, another day Flatter and corrupt We sit and we sigh, but nothing gets said Another day, another day Flatter and corrupt So right So wrong
I agree, it is probably my favourite song of all time. Depressing but beautiful, but almost all of their songs were written predominantly in the studio, kele wanted it that way.
sometime i hear a bloc party song and i feel like crying yoo, songs be soo beautiful man, this one is brilliant ,am not a girl btw lol, football player too but am human right.
This or the compliments as we later know it both sum up 2020 perfectly. Either set of lyrics or tempo work perfectly with the back drop of Covid and Brexit rearing it's ugly head too.
so awesome they're just jammin' it may be old but thats wut seperates the bloc. from those other disgusting modern rock bands who don't really have much talent...~Bloc party just seeps into my soul~ :)
wow this is an amazing video does anyone knows in what year was this video recorded? because they look extremely different i think it was maybe 2002 no?
Man, i love this version more than the one that they released, This original (in my opinion) sounds way better. Does anyone know if they did record this as a bonus somewhere?
wow 18 years ago. glad this is still up. still appreciating this in 2024
Breaks my heart to watch this.
fucking same
@@raghe9456 Probably because the final version of Compliments os very different than this one. And this one was never heard again.
Why???
MaybeMark this one is magical honestly

100% Matt made the bloc party sound!
Paul Epworth, is one of the most sort out producers in both electronic and indie music for a reason. He is a god damn genius.

This verson is 100x better than the album version and IMO Silent Alarm is one of my fave albums of all time

Most awesome band ever to see live. I was one of the lucky few that have heard this song and compliments live in the US
Could only dream of being at that gig... so personal and intimate
wow. thank you TH-cam. This appeared on my mix - and I've never heard it. It's almost jazzy in a sense. The guitar does it's own thing, so does the drums. Very uncut, very nice.
Bloc Party, please go back to the roots of Silent Alarm!!! ;)

They had the POWER I miss in their studio albums... (including silent alarm)
they need to release a studio version of thiiiiiissss.
I agree, it is probably my favourite song of all time. Depressing but beautiful, but almost all of their songs were written predominantly in the studio, kele wanted it that way.
Thank fuck this is still on TH-cam. And thank fuck someone recorded it at all.
OMFG this version AMAZING
seriously that start and 1:20 gives me shivers everytime
They should record this version of this now
Badass one of my fav bands

They reworked there songs many times, this could be before they hit the studio.
Thanks fo rthe share, that's good to see them debuting ^-^.
Time is the cruelest cut
Luv the song man...big bloc party fan
amazing version - judging by their equipment this was pre-fame...
wow, so soothing in a sense .
Compliments is in 'Silent Alarm'. I like both versions
Ha ha look at Gordon! :D
The only one that hasn't changed much is Russel. I think.
Way better than the released version
Jesus Christ... I wish they played this song live more often...
Bloc: a group of persons, businesses, etc., united for a particular purpose.
This or the compliments as we later know it both sum up 2020 perfectly. Either set of lyrics or tempo work perfectly with the back drop of Covid and Brexit rearing it's ugly head too.
this is matt's first gig with bloc party :)
fucking love that solo gives me shivers wen i play it
this one is very old!
Goarden Moaks was not even in the band at this time^!!!

Amazing video.
Wow, just realized that this old version of "Compliments" sounds like a Midwest emo song.
very different of the silent alarm version
much better than released version
Kinda reminds me a bit of building steam with a grain of salt in a way its got that moody and groovy vibe
I'm so bloody OLD :(
Brilliant...
Anyone here knows where can I find the full show? I remember watching it with the whole tracklist, but I can't seem to find it anymore

It would have been great to have this version available, but definitely not as a replacement for the final version
