Went to MEPS for my physical but got the call for an Special agent position at DSS and ultimately chose that career path. Between the life long physical fitness requirements and sense of humor/general immaturity, we all seem to age a bit slower...hahaha. I was multi-service during my 30 years... started out in the Marines. After completing SOI, I went to MCSF school. There was a guy in the school that was a very old-looking Lcpl (E-3). When we graduated, we had to wear our greens, since we were all boarding the bus to go to our duty station. The old Lcpl was stacked ... master parachutist, CIB (he couldn't wear on a Marine uniform), the works. He had been an Army SSG in the 75 RRT (jumped into Grenada), and for whatever reason, decided to switch to the Marines, and since it was over 10 years since his basic training, the Marines made him go back through boot camp as an Lcpl. He quickly made Cpl, transferred units and went to Panama, then Sgt (as I was making Cpl), then Ssgt, and finally he was a GySgt. Unfortunately, he was died in Iraq in 2003 after a 7-hr battle near the Baghdad mosque.
I stumbled onto this video and damn if it didn’t draw me in! RJ has an impressive background! As a Mustang I certainly understand the drive and enthusiasm it takes to stay hungry! Great job!
This inter service PA program has me interested I think I might go air force reserves my next contract. Also how does one have time for all these pursuits, I am going to college already got an AA and going for another one and then finish bachelors to get into PA school as well. Though is it rare for any special operations to accept people over 30, especially from a person who wasn't prior sf I'd be coming from an admin job in the Navy. Love this guys career! Definitely an inspiration to us all.

No, that is a different scenario. The MD or DO goes wherever there unit goes. When deployed, you will definitely be at the forward operating bases with your company or battalion element.
Hey guys I have a couple big questions (big meaning important). I want to become a PJ but before I go into the AF I'm getting my college paid for through ng. I wanted to know since I will have my bachelor's if I should become a CRO it just be a PJ, what is the difference between the two? And my second question is how do I make sure that I'm selected for pj school? My asvab was 94. I would greatly appreciate the help!
@@thetruecreed8641 For anyone who doesn't know, PJ is enlisted and CRO is an officer. With a degree you can obviously try out for either. My advice is to decide which job you want to do? Go into those unit interviews knowing what you want to be. If you want to be a PJ, yes, they might try and talk you into being a CRO, b/c you have a degree...& they need CROs.
but stick to your guns and say "I've looked into both, but I'm here to tryout for a PJ slot." But do your homework, talk to guys in both career fields. If you wanna talk more, hit me up on IG @brigands_co or @rjcasey1

Question: as a reservist hoping to cross train into a reservist RQS unit, with prep being cancelled out for us do we just go straight into A&S? Also since you’re being sponsored to go through the pipeline as a reservist does the cadre down at A&S know that you’re there for Pararescue and If they do are you just slotted to get through selection as PJ trainee or do you still have to be selected ? And even if you pass everything and are selected to be CCT/TACP vs a PJ, how does thing work out moving forward?
One of the pro's of being in the reserve RQS PJ squadrons is that you are in a PJ specific slot before you leave for training, so if you pass everything, nobody can switch your pipeline, even if they're low in other career fields. You have to go through as a PJ.

If you don't know how to swim, take lessons, join a master fitness swim program, look up Red Cross or YMCA swim programs, TH-cam "effortless swimming." With the internet you can figure something out. My best 2 a day workouts involved 4 days a week of weight training and 6 days a wk of a 1/2 ironman triathlon training schedule. Good luck!

If you hit a roadblock to go active duty, definitely try the national guard with either 19th or 20th Special Forces Group. They are all over the country and, depending on your state, there are different waiver processes. Good luck
I apologize to ask this, but is their many people of color in PARARESCUE? I ask as I was in the Army and everyone told me that as a BRWN guy your gonna feel left out in the PJs. Just curious as it sounds like theirs not much diverse crowd. Sorry if I offend anybody just curious.
I don't think you'd feel "left out" as a PJ. If you can graduate the pipeline, you're a team mate. And to answer the question directly, none of the SOF career fields in any service are very diverse. Pararescue is on par with the sister services in this regard. Hope I helped!

Just know that you'll have to always be ON if you make it through any pipeline simply for the fact that you're brown. You won't be able to hide anywhere so, you gotta be willing to be locked on all the time as with anything else in an all white environment. SOF has Very few blacks and obviously you're gonna deal with prejudice, adversity, etc. Don't let that stop you from doing what you wanna do - only get one shot at life.
@Jessie G thank you for your insight, I agree as I never had access to a pool as I grew up in a very urban area. It doesn’t matter I’m going to learn the skills needed to get into this profession as nothing intrigues me more in life than the idea of being a PJ. To me that is the most honorable profession out their. Atleast one of them.

We have a lot of branch transfers from the infantry. In fact, my current squadron commander right now was an airborne ranger infantry man and our ops sup was from 10th Mountain. Wow. So dude mentions the Activity and the Agency, it'd be simpler to say what he hasn't done. Never worked for the Department of the Navy. If somebody wrote a fictional novel or a screenplay or a comic book with a character that did only half the things this RJ dude did, and I were an editor, I'd tell the writer to go back and rewrite A.) the character to be something close to remotely plausible or B.) the story to include unicorns, ninjas and antifa.

Like I said, officer or enlisted doesn't matter, what job do you want to do and why? Those are the important questions to answer before you say I have to become an officer or enlist. We just had a guy check into our reserve team from the 24th STS. He graduated the Citadel, enlisted as a PJ, was active duty on a RQS or STS out of the pipeline for a few yrs, tried out and was at the 24 having a blast for yrs. He joined our team to continue doing what he loved, while attending med school, which he starts this fall. So just ask yourself: what do you really wanna do? And WHY? Good luck whatever you decide!

Do guys get motion sick on helicopters and boats, and do they eventually overcome that over the course of training?

If you wanna do it do it. Your age is gonna disqualify you soon. Try out the Air national guard.

I apologize to ask this, but is their many people of color in PARARESCUE? I ask as I was in the Army and everyone told me that as a BRWN guy your gonna feel left out in the PJs. Just curious as it sounds like theirs not much diverse crowd. Sorry if I offend anybody just curious.
I don't think you'd feel "left out" as a PJ. If you can graduate the pipeline, you're a team mate. And to answer the question directly, none of the SOF career fields in any service are very diverse. Pararescue is on par with the sister services in this regard. Hope I helped!

Just know that you'll have to always be ON if you make it through any pipeline simply for the fact that you're brown. You won't be able to hide anywhere so, you gotta be willing to be locked on all the time as with anything else in an all white environment. SOF has Very few blacks and obviously you're gonna deal with prejudice, adversity, etc. Don't let that stop you from doing what you wanna do - only get one shot at life.
@Jessie G thank you for your insight, I agree as I never had access to a pool as I grew up in a very urban area. It doesn’t matter I’m going to learn the skills needed to get into this profession as nothing intrigues me more in life than the idea of being a PJ. To me that is the most honorable profession out their. Atleast one of them.

How do I branch transfer from army infantry to af sr?
We have a lot of branch transfers from the infantry. In fact, my current squadron commander right now was an airborne ranger infantry man and our ops sup was from 10th Mountain. If somebody wrote a fictional novel or a screenplay or a comic book with a character that did only half the things this RJ dude did, and I were an editor, I'd tell the writer to go back and rewrite A.) the character to be something close to remotely plausible or B.) the story to include unicorns, ninjas and antifa.

Like I said, officer or enlisted doesn't matter, what job do you want to do and why? Those are the important questions to answer before you say I have to become an officer or enlist. We just had a guy check into our reserve team from the 24th STS. He graduated the Citadel, enlisted as a PJ, was active duty on a RQS or STS out of the pipeline for a few yrs, tried out and was at the 24 having a blast for yrs. He joined our team to continue doing what he loved, while attending med school, which he starts this fall. So just ask yourself: what do you really wanna do? And WHY? Good luck whatever you decide!
