    People say this main actor is "cringe-worthy", but personally, I think that his slow method of talking and clear emotiveness in how he delivers his lines will be for the benefit of people for who English isn't there second language, and this is important stuff. It's worth taking the time to explain it as clearly as possible.

    what about when both people are drunk and or high. If sex happens, is it still rape? if so who is at fault? not asking as a challenge, but as a legit question. Not using it as an excuse either, this is something that happened in the past and im looking to clear my conscience. Thx all :)

    • @anastasiapress4108
      @anastasiapress4108 8 ปีที่แล้ว +29

      +Devon At least where I live, if both people are drunk or high then it is the person who initiated the first unwanted sexual contact who is at fault. However, people generally advise that you shouldn't engage in any sort of sexual activity when you or the other person/people are under the influence because it is harder to communicate clearly and/or understand what's going on when people are drunk or high. Substances add a lot of ambiguity to a situation, and so it is safer to just hold off until everyone is sober.

      Rape is about power. In general, a sex act is rape when there's a clear power discrepancy and one party is _exploiting_ the other's lack of ability to refuse. So for the same reason two high school students having sex isn't rape but a teacher having sex with a student _is_, two people having sex while equally inebriated isn't as likely to leave either person feeling their trust has been violated. Because neither party was acting exploitatively.

    • @nikibu1
      @nikibu1 8 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      +Devon They refer to exactly what you're asking in another video of the same series ( th-cam.com/video/QSDjSetlGiw/w-d-xo.html&src_vid=qNN3nAevQKY&annotation_id=annotation_3441986047&feature=iv )
      The problem is whether your partner feels invaded, so having sex when someone is drunk CAN be rape. It won't always be rape, its just that there's a risk that it can be rape.

And if they are young teens who have never been in situations such as these they dont know what they're doing and don't know the rules and guidelines. Might seem silly for us experienced people, but this video can really help those who actually need it. :)

  • @harasnicole
    @harasnicole 8 ปีที่แล้ว +14

    While I agree with a majority of what this series talks about, I disagree that words are always necessary. So long as you're paying attention to your partner's cues, you should be fine. This country's kind of gotten a bit overboard with what consent is (with good reason), so really, just follow your gut. You can check in every now and again, but you don't have to speak. Let your face ask the questions, not your mouth.

    • @corinnewampler210
      @corinnewampler210 5 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      I agree. But I feel like this more so is targeted to newer sexually active people, as well as less serious couple's/flings or people who haven't been together long . I've been with my partner nearly 2 years now. We know each other well enough that a single glance means "fuck me now" but even a month or so after we first had intercourse, we still communicated openly that we wanted it and that it was ok. Or stopped if one of us didn't want it.

    My main issue with this video is #3. Its this logic that criminalizes people with HIV or other STDs. The responsibility to be safe is on all parties involved, not just the people with an STD or ovaries. Its not that hard to ask people to get tested before having sex, or to provide home testing supplies. Also, while stigma can be crushing to people with these conditions, we are in a day and age where people with HIV are likely to live just as long as those without it if treated. So we need to stop acting like its a death sentence or a life-ruining situation. The better thing would be to promote honest conversation about safety and willingness to be pro-active in making sure protection is a priority.

      HIV is not good. So being afraid of it is logical. Most people can survive the flue or a broken bone but we always try to avoid them if we can. HIV can be avoided. It's better to prevent than to run wild with the mindset that "i'll just get medicine if i get it"

    • @Christoffer13
      @Christoffer13 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +nilharma You agree that sex while being drunk is rape? I suggest you either read into the law a bit or at least warn your future sex partners so they have a chance to turn around before they're excused of rape for having consensual sex with you.

    • @nilharma
      @nilharma 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      oh I'm sorry. I'm sure you misunderstood what they meant. It is not that one cannot have sex when drunk. But if the person is so drunk that they might not be able to clearly show that they are into it, or that they can't even leave the situation because they don't understand what's happening etc. etc . Hope that makes it clearer.

    • @Christoffer13
      @Christoffer13 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      nilharma He literally said "if the person is drunk" There's not really anything to misunderstand. I am glad you don't really believe that yourself but, actually, many people are trying to push the agenda that drunk sex equals rape. It's what's been used to create the 1 in 3 women statistic.

    • @nilharma
      @nilharma 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      oh, I guess i didn't pay attention to that they phrased it like that, because that's just stupid of course. I haven't actually heard anyone ever believe that! Well, I guess the problem is that drunk people sometimes don't understand when they are pushing their agenda too hard, and that the other drunk person don't understand the situation and can't get themselves out of it. This became a long post, I'm going to stop rambling now.

    • @Christoffer13
      @Christoffer13 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      nilharma I don't mind it. I'm a bit of a rambler myself anyway.~ You seem like a reasonable being so there's no point of me dragging this out. I just think it's important that we don't teach this stuff to impressionable children because they shouldn't grow up in a world thinking that men are able to rape without actually raping anyone.
