  • Ladies and Gentlemen of the Press,
We the chiefs and people of Akposo-Kubi (aka Apesokubi) Traditional Area welcome you to the Press Center. We are before you today to address recent developments in our town, Akposo-Kubi (aka Apesokubi), and its people. We hope that by the end of this conference, everyone here and those watching or listening to us from home would have learned something new about the Akposos of Ghana. Before we proceed, we wish to state that the town Akposo-Kubi and Apesokubi refer to the same place, with Akposo-Kubi being the original name. Just as the indigenes of Cape Coast, Elmina and Saltpond know and maintain their indigenous names, so also, we the people of Akposo-Kubi retain our name and use it in all our correspondences. And in due time we shall tell you why the name is Akposo-Kubi and not Apesokubi.
The people of Akposo are ethnically Guans, and our ancestors are one of the very first few Guan tribes to settle in the Volta and now Oti Regions of Ghana and Akposo-Kubi (Apesokubi) is the ancestral home of the Akposo people. Prof. J.K Fynn in his Book a Junior History of Ghana indicates that the Ewes upon arrival from Notsie in the early sixteenth century met the Akposos and the Avatimes already settled on the land. We the Akposos have an ethnically distinct language, which is the Ikposo language. Akposo is a tribe with its own language, living above the Ewe region on the Slave Coast of West Africa, between the Volta River and the Kingdom of Dahome (Dahomey), which areas we refer to in present-day Ghana as the Volta and Oti Regions and the Republic of Togo.
K.B. Dickson in his hook “A Historical Geography of Ghana” writes that the Guans may have settled in Ghana long before the 13th century. This means that Akposos, as Guans, have been living in Akposo-Kubi and its surrounding villages in the Buem-Krachi/Jasikan and now Biakoye District for well over 800 years!
Oral history has it that a hunter from Guaman, Ogya Mante, found some refugees in our area and brought them to our ancestors. Thus, it was the Buem/Lefana people who started to use the name “Akposo Kubebi” meaning “Akposo and her servants/children” to refer to the community of Akposos who had taken in the fallouts from the Okwawu Dokuman, Gonja, Ashanti and Dahomeyan wars. This is how the name Akposo-Kubi became another name of the community generally referred to as Akposo. This story was corroborated by Nana Aburam Akpandja III and Nana Agyadu both of Buem at the Agyeman-Badu Committee’s sittings.
Apeso is the Twi pronunciation of Akposo!
The irony of our situation is that most of the people who are today claiming the identity of Apeso do not even know the genesis of the name.
    D. Reimer: 1962 in the book “Afrika und Übersee, Volume 46” translated in English as “Africa and Overseas, Volume 46”noted that the consonant digraph “kp” did not exist in Twi, thus Twi speakers called the Akpafus, Apafu and hence the Akposos, Apesos. He further noted that the name Apesokubi itself contains the Twi form of the name Akposo this assertion is a corroboration of the findings of David Asante of the Basel Mission in 1884, who travelled in the company of Dr E. Mähly and Mr. J. Müller through the districts east of the Volta to Salaga. In their report, Mr. Asante noted that some Twi-speaking people in the Akposo community referred to us Akposos as Apesos.
The misrepresentation of "Apeso" as a distinct tribe or ethnic group outside of Akposo is baseless and lacks historical backing as there is no tribe whether in pre-colonial Ghana, the Gold Coast or even present-day Ghana known as Apeso, but the tribe Akposo is known, recognised, and documented under the Ghana Tribes and Languages, and many other literary works with its unique Voter Registration code and National Identification codes. The Special Reports on the National Population census of 1970 and 1984 recognised and used Akposo as a prefix to the names of most of the Akposo towns within the Akposo-Kubi Traditional Area. The 1970 Report used both Akposo-Kubi and Apesokubi.
A person cannot be called Apeso if she is not Akposo just as one cannot say she is Ewe, Ashanti or Akim but she is not Eʋe, Asante or Akyem because Ewe/Eʋe, Ashanti/Asante and Akim/Akyem refer to the same ethnic groups with different spellings of the names.

You can get your own country if your wish. What fight didn’t Ashantis fight to have their own government? The whites and some people in Ghana and Africa fought side by side to allow these foreigners to conquer them and put them under one boundary called Ghana today. Once it’s Ghana, there is no other map in it. Work together and grow together. If a government comes to power and decides to play stupid and disrespect chiefs, vote them out and enjoy your peace. It shouldn’t become a national headache.

Thank God is not only we the eves who are fighting for reunion with with our ethnic group, what ghana education never thought us or refuses to teaches is that ewe is not an ethnic group, but a tribe part of the Gbe ethnic group, which spread from volta region to nigeria the people of ogun, just that the ewes are majority, even guan and Adangbe sound more ewes than and other language, we are all brothers and sisters.

You clearly do not know what a tribe or ethnic group is.
It is abrofo who called you tribe as they tried to portray you as backward. Here you are accepting and celebrating such a pejorative label.
Ewe is an ethnic group hence there were several Ewe states such as the Anlo. They had moved beyond the idea of a tribe because they had formalised leadership structures and at around 9 million how exactly can they be a mere tribe.
But you Keep using the self deprecating labels.
places like Aflao were never part of transvolta Togoland?
The claim that Ewe are a tribe also contradicts the premise of secession as it suggests there was no Ewe state preceding Ghana !
Instead of creating divisions we need to promote unity we all need each other.
Independence was achieved as the forefathers had the foresight to understand under the plebiscite of 1956 that unity would guarantee it.
Such parochial thoughts are not conducive to progress😮

We brought our land to add to thevGold coast to form Ghana.
The people of the other half of Togoland did not walked into Ghana as most Akans who tell people of these lands to go back to Togo want to believe.
Without this land others called Western Togoland, The Gold coast would have been what she was before independence.
People should learn to respect other people and their land. Trying to make others less than Ghanaians especially during election time would make the people feel like, hey, if you think I'm not Ghanaian, then I'm taking my ancestral land back.
Yes, the land is theirs and they are a nation, and NOT tribes.

It is a tragedy and frightening that any group belonging to Ghana feels this way
Rather than secession our country should be growing in a union with our immediate neighbours.
The Guan were amongst the early settlers of what is now Ghana.
I know some Akan make misguided comments such as original Ghanaians, but they are mistaken.
We are all Ghanaian and all original.

Don't mind them, let them suffer for their naughtiness, they've succeeded into believing Ewes were their problems and hindrances in the then volta region hence the need to create a new region named oti. These stereotypes were orchestrated by the imposters and they dined with it. Now the indegines are crying like Palestinians who wants their lands back from Nazi refugees Israel. Their situation is in consonance with isreal_Palestine situation and if a proper government did not come into power to address the issue then...... Guans in the so called oti region are very naughty and stubborn. Most don't wanna listen to advice from Ewes in the south. They always think Ewes are their enemies meanwhile they've never been disturbed, oppressed and controlled by the Ewes since time immemorial. Similar situation in the republic of Togo where the Akporsor and Ewe share a common border, there has never been a complain or evidence from Togo Akporsor group of evil pepertuated by Ewes towards them. But here in Ghana they were made to believe we hate them and so many unnecessary reasons why the Oti should be created. And when Ewes stood against the creation all sort of names were labelled, such that they were jealous, also alleged that oti is not for Ewes which is fact oti is not for Ewes. Accepted. Even some of the lands in the present volta region were given to some Ewes by the Guans. The regional creation was carefully orchestrated by the imposters and their cohorts in Ghana. it did not start today. There are several strange and evil motion behind that oti creation of which is not well known by the authentic indegines but well known by those in the south (Ewes) of which mineral resources grabbing is also part of the plans, it was a calculated attempt. They should know that if they want to know and see more authentic documents and hidden facts about themselves, apart from what they know, we have them in Togo, their kindred the Akposors in Togo, the Ewes in Togo and in the Volta region. And they'll get them. Their land is super rich in mineral resources that they stand a chance of losing them to imposters. Thank God with the orders of the league of nations now United Nations, an embargo has been placed to protect the minerals in the territory, if not....

The very reason why it is very important to teach your children to maintain and speak your language, cultures and traditions at all times.

How come we are now surreptitiously alienating some ethnic groups? This is diabolical & would not succeed.

Ethnocentrism/ tribalism due to some greedy folks selfish political ambitions can wipe out a tribe’s lovely heritage and culture. When they're telling them of the truth of western Togo land they believed the propaganda the Ghana government was fuelling, now there has been a move by the imposters to take over their lands and rich discovered mineral resources here they are complaining. They have been programmed and brainwashed into believing that the Ewes in the south are their enemies hence the need for a new region which has no sense but rather create divide and misunderstanding among them, they are now realising if they did not take what belongs to them, similar circumstance relating to the isreal Palestine issue might happen and it's beginning to happen. 😅

Blame it on the hardcore Akyem-Akan politicians. They decided to split the VR in order to sow a division between the Eʋe and Akpɔsɔ, so they promised heaven and earth for the Akpɔsɔ to vote for the split. The Akyem-Akan Mafia used propaganda to make the Akpɔsɔ to see those Eʋe people who are brother and sister to them but opposed to the split as ''enemies of progress''
The Akyem-Akam Mafia had a diabolic agenda that after the split, they wove in to begin mining and use the Akyem Mafia government controlled instruments to take over and dominate the people as they have weighed them to be ''light weight'' without their Eʋe brothers and sisters.
But they were so wrong the rightful owners are fighting it back.

So what's the issue here? Those claiming to be akans as the Queen put it, are their own brothers and sisters.
But making it seem like An Akan from somewhere are making those claims.
I think she should rather blame his own people if they are claiming to be Akans and not blame Akans as the ones trying to claim their land.
Names, race, religion, tribe and even culture evolve over time depending on the transition. There are soo many lineage or partially lineage Ewes, ect.. who are chiefs, kings and Queens in Akan towns due to intermarriages.
Same with Gas and Ga- adangbes.
So this is neither here nor there.

    @New.Horizon5 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

If someone identifies him/herself to be Akan, who are you to deny him/her of that identity. This is a delicate issue and if care is not taking Ghana will be doomed cos almost every tribe or ethnicity seems to be sparkling some amount of fire on each other. In the Ga land there are disputes and everyone is claiming to be the true and real owners. In Eastern same pressure mounting. Northern is not an exception. Brong and Ahafos too. Ashantis too mounting pressures on corrupt chiefs with Opemsuo too being a core enemy to most tribesmen and ingrates. All these and others are not different from what's called *Rising war* in Ghana.
Now the solution: whether you are Cocoyam or Yam, we are all Yam and thus Ghana. Any other thing apart from what I'm saying know that Ghana is doomed else we hand over Ghana to the Europeans. Me de3, nea mehunu na mereka.
