As a Cat Empire fan right from Hello Hello all those years ago, I love the new incarnation of the band with more Latin roots. Such joyful happy music 😊🎶🎵🥁🎹. Still retaining The Cat Empire sound but different in a good way
Since the first for me too. I loved the buoyant delirious glory. And then I loved Two Shoes and the influence, and here I love again... It's the artists' love of the music the come across to me, that's what matters. Well, that and being good! But... Everyone here is doing something glorious. I say to you all, try this experiment: zone out, listen to one instrument, just one, the whole piece. More than anyone Cat Empire give you that. Because everyone matters.
Now it seems that musical diversity has gone with the original band members. Everything now sounds terribly flat and without energy. It’s just meeh Latin pop.
We need more drums again. The drums need to come to the fore again, determine the song more and point you in the right direction like a compass, take on responsibility so to speak. Just 4/4 bars without a changing beat or fills don't get me. I still miss that in the new songs. Nonetheless, the joie de vivre and the fun that you have injected into the song really resonates with me! I hope you read the comments and take constructive criticism to heart. Love you guys and I am really looking forward to July 17th with you! ❤

They've always been Latin oriented, recording their early major album release in Cuba in fact back in 2003ish. What they have done is move towards the pop side recently and that's what most of us long time fans aren't feeling unfortunately.
Been a fan since 2003. Being an American, so weird hearing so much Latin influence. It's catchy and nice, but...not the same without Harry James Angus.
I've been the greatest fan for many years, I even have the logo tattooed on my wrist. But the band I once loved doesn't exist anymore. In the past, your music was so diverse, mixing different styles to something indescribable and new. You could never tell what the next song was going to be like. Since the split, it's just uninspired plain latin pop that doesn't surprise or stand out. And please... stop adding a ooooh-eee-oohh chorus to every single song.
Been looking forward to this all week and it didn't disappoint! Unfortunately will miss you in Canada in August, but will definitely catch you guys the next time you're back!
This song really feels like the new sound has been found with a strong direction! Well done! It's hard when you go through a major change. Listening to this, it feels fresh but not out of place with the back catalogue of great music.
Felt like it was missing a certain heat or grit. I kept waiting for a scorcher of a trumpet solo or something. As a long time fan, I know it's super tough to expect that a band will always be exactly like they used to be, especially with new members in the group. That said, in my opinion a lot of the songs since the transition have been too pop oriented for what made this band special. It almost feels like the gang vocal choruses (which I could use less of personally) get written first and then a song is created just around that one catchy 15 second piece. The Owl was really the only stand out track on the last album, and I know they said they expect this new record to be similar in tone, but this isn't that vibe I'm craving unfortunately. I hope others enjoy it, not trying to be a grumpy internet gus, just wish we could get back to exploring some jazz routes instead of something I feel like I'd hear in a commercial for a cruise ship 😶 will still always love the band and had a great time a few months back seeing them, here's hoping the album delivers some groovy vibes. This just isn't The Cat Empire, it's an entirely new band. Unfortunately they're poluting the Cat Empire spotify page with their songs, I can't even recommend the band to people anymore because they'll first encounter these
@@emmalewis9004 yeah, I think that's really been my main gripe with the new stuff. It really sounds like the angle is for it to end up in commercials or something. The "boom boom" song I just can't handle for that exact reason. I will say though, when I saw them about 6 months ago, I've never seen Felix so happy and energized before and it really did add a different layer to the show which was nice to see him almost reborn and the show was super fun because of it. Everyone they added to band is a super talented musician, I just hope they reign in on the 3 minute pop jingles and start showing their musicianship instead.
You should coordinate with The Oregon Symphony when you play Portland again! For that matter you should coordinate with all of the symphonies you can all along the tour! You would ensure an excellent acoustic environment etc!
Missing the OG Cat Empire more and more with every new song. Their jazzy spirit of musical surprises has been replaced with safe bland Latin pop. No longer bringing the danger and spontaneous energy
Unfortunately, TCE is not the band I used to know and love anymore. Their music is reduced to repeating "Oooeeeee" and "Oaaaaaaa" choruses, with something to fill in between them. I really miss the original creativity and exciting jazz influences. Such a shame.
Some members left, that's simply the reality of it. Should they force the new members to try and simply replace who left? Have another 20 years of the same type of sound? Or embrace the change and try new sounds and use the new sounds of the new members. It's better that it changed than died. (I personally love the change).

But also don't forget, the band had agreed to end it, then later Felix and Ollie changed their mind and continued anyway against the wishes of some of the former members, much to their dismay. Should their wishes not have been respected?

The Cat Empire always tried to combine several musical genres, of course not always with success, and come up with something new and unexpected. Thanks to this, they became successful even outside their homeland. After listening to the last album, reworked old hits and a new single, it's clear that the most creative members have left. Anyway, The Cat Empire has enough good material that I'll keep coming back to. I don't take anyone's opinion and if someone likes the new work, then only good. I just wouldn't call it The Cat Empire anymore.

Unfortunately, the new song did not captivate me. Repeating what has already been heard a hundred times. This is not the Cat empire I loved.
