Nick the problem is Matthews, Marner, Nylander are soft soft players. They can’t win with these guys period. They need grinders and players who throw body checks, hit and fight. Goal scoring even IF Matthews hits 80 goals they won’t win because that’s all he does one dimensional player.

I'd rather see Mathews score only 40 goals and the leafs top players be healthy going into the playoffs. Mathews and both Marner and Nylander were hurting last year. Screw the regular season.
If they run 4 lines it means spreading out the top 4. So no record breaking years as team defence improves. This has to happen for any playoff success.
If Marner has a hundred plus point season, he will not be signing with the Leafs. He will go to free agency and will get 7 years for 98+ with someone else, probably NYR.

Marner costs too much money for a guy who disappears in the post season and the Leafs need cap space for defense and elite goaltending.
They need to fix the power play and score goal in the playoffs, will see how the back end looks.
