      My first time Shooting SLog 2 was a client project. My grading looked like trash, had to resort to LUTS. Luckily it worked out, but woof
      Great video man! Lots of good info in this one!

      Not long ago I was on the phone with a client and they asked how much it was going to cost for the project. I gave them what was meant to be a rough ballpark off the top of my head and not an exact quote. I sent a follow-up email to recap our conversation (this way I always have things in writing from phone calls 😂) I listed out the full cost and break down of rates, it totaled up to be about $600 more than my initial estimate 15 minutes earlier. They said it had already been approved by corporate and they couldn't go higher... They decided to use a corporate employee who sometimes takes photos as a hobby instead 🤦🏻‍♂️ Ya live and ya learn

      Soo (a couple of years ago lol) a local restaurant (I’m from a tiny holiday town where everyone knows everyone) wanted one of my prints on a special beer for the summer and we kinda agreed on a price.. beers looked amazing, everyone loved the print and bought them because of the print too and I sent them the bill (which was already a rip off for me but oh well they promised to advertise my name too which they didn’t) and I hear nothing back, no money no nothing... turns out they thought I charged too much and wanted to discuss it with me when I came back from my trip to Australia... still have not been paid 🤦🏼‍♀️ havent updated my website in about 3 years but I’ve got some stuff on the gram @jessicaskantze

      Being overconfident about a timeline. A couple of......weeks ago lol, I overconfidently set a deadline for today. I didnt take into account that life (and weather) happens and now I have to ask for more time. Very unprofessional on my part 😔. Love the inspiration that your videos give us!

      Chris Hau my mistakes have involved not going with my gut feeling when I had a strong feeling that the client would be difficult to work with. I proceeded because I needed the money, but those have always been the worst clients. Now I'm very selective on the type of client's I work with to avoid working with the wrong personality types.

    I’m glad you said, “the first few years were rough...”
    Needed to hear that today. 2020 will be my fifth year as a photographer but my second year as a full time business owner and it puts in perspective to hear how other people’s, particularly successful people’s, first couple years went.
    Thank you 🙏🏼

It's great to see that successful photographers made the same mistakes early on. Today was especially hard. Thanks for this.

    I've obviously loved your videos for a while now but idk something about this video took you to another level for me. Everything was paced and timed perfectly! And the constant back and forth of having a camera in a weird/unique spot to someone filming you (I'm assuming Lizzie?) worked perfectly! And all your videos (especially this one) have a genuine and unique charm to them. Loved this video!

    Its relieving to hear someone else messed up a bunch of times and I feel less embarrassed for my own mess ups. There are many ways things can go wrong but the one important thing or advice is to reorganize ones activity after each mess up and write a good policy to prevent it from happening again. Just to think, yeah, I´ll remember it for the future. No, there are just too many things to keep track on. To have several check lists is also a good tip to not causing to much trouble for oneself and others. After a while one will have bunch of good policies and check lists : )

    Great video Chris! Get everything in writing before you start the project! I had an issue with a hard drive a client gave me that was unreadable, it was my biggest $$$$, but because of the delay I got annoyed and cancelled the whole project. • @mccdvo5309
    @mccdvo5309 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Solid video. I respect those that aren't afraid to share their mistakes. It's a humbling transparency that we don't see enough of. As far as the end of the video, however, instead of shooting your outro, I feel that it may have been more impactful to fade out everything except for the text saying, "Its okay to make mistakes". Let that black screen with white text just sit there as a beacon to everyone that are afraid of messing up. Ending it there would leave us with the reassurance that we don't have to be perfect, and it could give someone the courage to face that fear, and finally start their business. This is just my opinion though. I still very much liked the video, and as always, you nailed it.

    Having everything in writing is really understated and not emphasized enough to beginners. I think it comes in second just after safety first. And not only to have everything in writing but having it well detailed with all the dates, times...etc etc every single detail. If it's a contract get someone to proof read it and weed out any mistakes. If you can get a lawyer to look at it from a legal perspective...you're eliminating all possible loop holes. For example I once made an invoice after doing some computer maintenance for a client but the invoice did not contain proper payment instructions or deadlines and guess what? The client took forever to pay me. I got paid in 2 installments and after several follow ups. If there was a payment deadline or penalty for late payment on the invoice and the client was aware of it then it might have been a different case. No matter what your case is never ever assume things. It doesn't hurt if you confirm whether the other party understands the fine print.

    Very insightful and great gear suggestions! I love my Sony Tough SD cards, average lifetime of previous SD cards were about 1 year but spending a bit more for a 10x stronger and many times faster SD card has saved me a bit of money.

    I mean I could be wrong about this but I feel like the last minute and half of the video was just to reach the 10 minute mark lol. Not that I’m judging cos everyone’s gotta eat. Keep up the videos Chris. Appreciate that you’re providing value!

    Shot a engagement session in the summer. Visited the old cavernous Catholic church that looked gorgeous. Fast forward to December wedding and there was hardly any lighting and dark at 5PM. This was back in the day of 800 being a barely useable ISO. The 100th and worst (and last) wedding I ever shot. Nothing worked including dragging the shutter.
