- India's Supreme Court has ruled that the disputed holy site in Ayodhya in northern India should be given to Hindus who want to build a temple there.
The case, which has been bitterly contested for decades by Hindus and Muslims, centres on the ownership of the land in Uttar Pradesh state.
At the centre of the row is the 16th Century Babri mosque which was demolished by Hindu mobs in 1992, sparking riots that killed nearly 2,000 people.
Muslims would get another plot of land to construct a mosque, the court said.
The BBC's Vikas Pandey explains what happened at the court today and what the reaction has been.

Look Bhai, 2003 Archealogical digging found remains of parts of a Mandir, where the Babri Masjid once stood, showing there was a Ram Mandir there before.
Even the Sunni Waft Board agreed that there was a Mandir there before.
The problem was if the Mandir was destroyed to built Babri Masjid or was it already destroyed and Babar just built over the place.

As an Indian Muslim, I always face these questions from Hindus that why don't Muslims simply give up their claims for the holy land? What difference would it make if they lose a Mosque when they have several Mosques across the country?
My answer to them: The fight was never for a piece of land. It was fight for justice. The demolition was illegal and Supreme Court failed to bring the culprits to Justice.
The aftermath of demolition saw bloody communal riots which mainly targeted Muslim households and their petty businesses. It took the Country several years behind.
Justice is on hindus side always.... history you know very well how our temples were ruined and mughl rulers built their mosques forcefully. Logically your clan should have back off from this. The court hasn't agreed that the site is the birthplace of Ram -- that is just plain stupid reportage that BBC's Indian fixes are famous for... the court has agreed with the archaeological statement that there existed a very large ruined structure on which the mosque stood, and that large ruined structure was not an Islamic one. Archaeologists of the Arch. Survey of India (BB Lal, KK Muhammad) have conclusively proved that the features of that ruined structure were identical to Hindu temples from the 11th c. era. The court rightly agreed with them.
Actually Muslims stopped giving namaz back in 1949 after Ram idols were placed there by Hindus.

Babur, a mughal invader demolished the temple and built a mosque on the remains. That temple is like Mecca or Jerusalem to us Hindus. It's where lord ram was born. It was proven in court that previous structure was not Islamic and Hindus had been worshipping there for centuries.

Land belonged to the temple. Mosque was built forcibly after destroying the temple which existed for centuries and was renovated many times since. Oldest layer of temple goes back to 2nd BC. You cannot make a claim on a property which was never yours to begin with.

Tons of muslim dynasties kept coming only to be kicked out by another wave of invaders before mughals got kicked by British. Mughals were kicked out by Shershah Suri as well for a time. A lot of them when not getting kicked out by another wealth and glory seeking invader, were busy slitting each other's throat and starting their own dynasties as well.

We should start from the land which government has legal rights to for that infrastructure. Church is the biggest land owner in the country. A lot of the land in control of church was leased to them on 100 year lease during the British and they are still occupying it even after the lease time is over. We should start taking back the land with expired lease and that would be good for infrastructure.
