Forgot to mention that I'm also working on a video giving a full explanation of the Sydney Metro City & Southwest extension. That will be out just after they eventually announce the open day for the metro extension. :)
5:28 Your mention of the metro train coming in with water jugs inside took me back to 1969 or 1970. At that time I was a trainee with the Railway Testing Laboratory. One of the tests we did was to load 44-gallon drums full of water into the upper deck of the very first double-deck carriages. The aim was to test carriage stability if the full complement of passengers crowded into the upper deck. We were on the lower deck with all the analog instruments. As the carriage remained upright on the tracks as we hurtled around bends, the test results were considered positive!
I use the metro everyday from Tallawong to chatswood and I see the metro testing happening everyday! By the way yesterday i saw a honking metro so why is that happening?
I genuinely think they have underestimated how much demand there is going to be on the Chatswood-Central portion of the new Route, they are only ready to run 15 trains per hour with 6 car trains and not enough spares to ramp up frequency in case demand does hit that capacity. I worked on the project (Chatswood Dive and Central Station works) and remember thinking this the entire time; demand only has to exceed capacity in one portion of the line, say Central to Martin Place, for it to cause significant issues. I believe they have designed the initial operations to be able to run >20tph to recover from delays and catch up the schedule but they cant do this reliably for extended periods. Another criticism I have after working on the project is that, as great as it is having a Cross-Platform Transfer between T1/T9 and M1, the overall result is I think worse than if you Hhd designed the line system properly and independently from the beginning and the M1 had remained underground, the overall journey time could have been 3-4 minutes faster, less energy used, another entrance to Chatswood Station underground, and you could have had more options for new stations including serving North Ryde better, Willoughby and possibly Lane Cove. Now a future Beaches Metro and possibly a local light rail are going to have to come in and mop up, same as at Zetland+Alexandria though that was probably a given.
Just responding to the second half, the Epping - Chatswood rail link was initially built and operated as part of the already existing heavy rail network, would have been a huge cost to rebuild/reroute.
@@Holospejsn Yeah obviously the ECRL was the crux of the issue - as I said I worked on the extension (and I actually lived on the T9 Northern line so my morning commute used to go via Macquarie Park in to the City). The broader point is that the planning failures in Sydney over recent decades are clear and are detrimental to the transit system in a big way, from the ESR getting cut short to Bondi Junction, then the Olympic Park shuttle, to thedisaster that is the Airport line, and onto SWRL and ECRL, now arguably Metro between Central-Sydenham. It is going to take billions more to untangle and heal all of these and the final product will still be inferior to what could have been done.
Agreed. Eg, why wasn’t the metro extended a couple of extra kms to the Richmond line? Why wasn’t a metro built decades ago? Eastern suburbs line terminating at BJ etc etc etc. (Bob Carr I’m looking at you… amongst others). But, I think we also need to realise that we can’t let the perfect get in the way of the good. At least we’re getting something now. Let’s just make sure we do it right in future 🤦♀️
I remember back a week ago, after school at like 7-8pm, I saw bunches of metro staff members standing at the side of the metro door, and once the metro departs, it horns for like 10 times, feels like it was celebrating, and accelerates straight into the tunnel, and I filmed it down.
When Sydney Metro had the open day before the initial line first opened to stress test at max loads, the whole system collapsed and there were massive delays. This time they are not taking any chances.
Loved the video, but how the heck did you get the footage of the inside of the metro before chatswood (when it was emerging from the tunnel) @TsetsTransport
There’s is so much security there, it’s pretty much impossible for them to not detect you. Even if you were to avoid them until the train starts moving, they’ve set up Crows Nest where they’ll remove you from the train, interrogate you, then put you on the next train back to Chatswood.
So we have Chatswood, Epping, Martin Place, and Central as interchanges with heavy rail, and later Parramatta and St. Mary’s. I’m interested to consider new Metro routes and future interchanges. Any ideas?
I think wynard, Martin place and new hunter st station should be renamed as Sydney central north with platforms being renumbered. Platform 1-2: T4 3-4: T1 and northern line 5-6: T2/T8 7-8: M1 9-10: west metro And current central renamed as central south
I don't think it's a 'ok to go' but more 'noone in the train '. At 3:35 a driver walks into the train and the platform staff stay on the platform so they are signalling a driver to press the 'go' button but it would be driveable from the control room to a limited degree
@@darren4852 if the system is being tested to operational conditions, the train should be running driverless from Chatswood , to Sydenham, and return AND. On to Tallawong.
They're signalling to the person at the front of the train with the radio that the sweep has been completed with no one on board and the train can depart
@@quarkcypher just a couple days ago, i saw the construction of one of the stations (barangaroo i think) but anyways, it looked kinda far from completion so yea i lost a bit of hope but then the rest seems to be good. I really enjoyed this informative video. The explanations are very easy to understand, especially with the diagrams. Great video, well done 👏 👍

Why the honking? Bird strikes at that speed can be disastrous. 😉

I have heard testing will continue until mid August

Is there an app that can show you the Sydney Metro testing?
has anyone tried to sneak onboard? like with a plausible strategy... maybe dress in black and under the seats + a platform distraction?
The amount of staff that scan every part of the train is mental. Zero chance. Not to mention it’s illegal.

I’d love to see someone sneak a little camera on board to record the view out the front…

If Parramatta Light Rail is not extended to Epping then it would be great to see a Metro Branch Line between Epping and Parramatta.
North Strathfield, Westmead too
I just wanna have more stations where I live in walking distance all I have is a light rail which is a kilometre plus away

Platform 1-2: T4
3-4: T1 and northern line

stick a go pro on the front window and get it when the train comes back
Great idea. Do you have a spare GoPro and suction mount? 😉
Where is the place at the very beginning of the video? The train yard for all the metro cars?
Tullawong
Do sydney metro trains have horns?
Yes, but they are rarely used.
Why do the doors reopen again Elliot I am confused but why do they do that can’t they just not reopen and go
Watch the video to the end, and you will see why.
Release Date?
When the guys signal the train is ok to go to Sydenham, who are they signaling to? Someone in the control centre who presses the “go” button

Challenge: record a metro train honking 📢
Saw that happen yesterday not sure why
I saw that yesterday not sure why
4:04 Why does the Train announcer sound AI generated lol
Nice vid! Small correction: what you’ve called the ‘junction’ at Chatswood is formally referred to as a ‘crossover’.
Yeah did notice that little error when going over the video after it was uploaded. :)
Glad you enjoyed!
they really sound like the jubilee line trains.
Nothing like it.
im so confused on how it works
saw a guy i knw walking on the platform, weird
There spending millions on S/W line and there's already a good train line there! WTH BUILD A LINE WHERE THEY NEED ONE!!! WASTE OF $$$🤔
Sysneyrails at the other side and metro say pft your not better than me
have they got an opening day settled yet?
no they just said somewhere in may i think but prob got delayed. Most say it's opening by august or september.
